Ok I got my Boromir and Lurtz in today and am posting my thoughts.

Overall in terms of detail, sculpting, accessories, and overall presence I think this is the strongest wave so far. There are some issues that I’ll get into in a bit, but seeing them on my shelf makes it very easy for me to overlook them.

Lurtz: Both headsculps are really good, but the narrowed eye one is just really impressive. Huge jump in the paint app quality from Gandalf, who had eye problems, and those are totally absent here.

I have seen some people struggle with getting the quiver on, but have missed that Lurtz wears his quiver on his hip, not on his back, I was able to work it up his waist without heating anything and it wasn’t that difficult.

special shout-out to the sculptor for including some unique costume details that Lurtz has that the other Uruk scouts don’t, it would be oh so easy to overlook but he went out of his way to include them and the attention to detail shows.

Boromir: Headsculpt in person is great, as is the dry brushing on the cloak and costume. Articulation is also a big step up from past waves. Also the Lorien cloak fits Aragorn if that interests anyone.

the sword and dagger, so this is a strange issue that is not a huge problem for me, the dagger is a non issue I would like to have put the scabbard on him but I’m not losing any sleep over it.

so the dagger comes with the sheath, but the sheath does not open to hold it, and it made of a really soft, gummy plastic. It’s so soft that I actually think it was meant to open, but was made so poorly it kind of fused itself closed in production. There is also no way to attach either scabbard or sheath to Boromir, making them just floating accessories. There is a small hook on the back of his waist, but that is actually for the horn, double loop it and it fits real snuggly. I wish the horn string was long enough to hang around the torso, to me, that was a bigger issue than the weird sheath.

Overall despite some strange hiccups, really strong work from DS. I’m really happy with them.

I had to heat my Lurtz to get his quiver on. I had tried slipping it over the legs right out of the box but I did not have your luck because it started to tear. It was pretty easy to pop off the chest piece after hearing it up.

You are spot on with them taking the care to note a lot of the differences between his armor/outfit versus the of Uruk Hais. I think he might be my favorite figure of the line so far.

Man, if I had a nickel for every time I had to heat up my Lurtz to get it quivering! 😜

Got my Boromir and Lurtz from Amazon yesterday. Haven't had a chance to open them yet, but they look great in package. The boxes were smashed and crushed in order to fit into the Amazon box; I'm an opener, so it's fine, but I still hate it when they do that.

Really excited for the next wave! Saruman has been atop my watch list for a while. I know it's still a ways out, but I'll be eagerly anticipating it.

It looks like our DST contact did not make the jump to the new forums, which is a huge loss as that was the best source of info for this line.

Yeah, I miss MSWord. Hope they find their way back eventually! If I remembered his name on Insta, I'd message him there and invite him back.

Finally got around to opening Boromir and Lurtz, and I really like them. It's hard to put into words, but they feel different than the previous figures, but in a good way. A little less fragile, I guess? Both in terms of the plastic itself and the articulation.

As many others have said, the paint work on Boromir is fantastic. What have you guys been doing with the horn? I have him holding his sword and shield currently, with the horn around his neck and to the side. The string blends in with his armor well enough that it's not super obvious, which is nice. A bummer about his dagger- both it and the unusable sheath are super soft, flimsy plastic. I'll probably chuck them into the bucket of lost accessories. They'll find a home some day, I'm sure. Wish his shield and sheath had ways of attaching to him as well.

Lurtz is nice too. Enough to set him apart from the Uruk-Hai. I keep trying to get his bow into his hand, but those fingers do not seem to want to move, even when I heat them up. I'll find a way. Haven't tried working his quiver up to his waist yet, but I'm sure it'll be easy enough.

Still really eager for wave 6. I'm glad to have both Boromir and Lurtz, but they've admittedly never been my favs. Both are really well done, however, and I'm really eager to see if they can keep up the quality on future waves. As long as a little more attention can be paid to the little things- like the dagger- then I think things could only continue to go up from here!

Hey, the forums are working again! ...Uh, I mean, a marketing supervisor is never late, he always arrives precisely when he is supposed to!

I'll have to look into the Boromir dagger sheath, see what happened there, and into why we can't attach scabbards in general. The two samples I have aren't complete, so I'll need to request a new set to see what is going on there.

The Cave Troll diorama we're doing came out great, and is not really THAT much less poseable than the Toy Biz Cave Troll. (Of course, that one also had a stretchy face and hammering action.) We should be offering him in late October. Hopefully he does well enough that we can visit (or re-visit) other oversized LOTR characters.

Gandalf the White Gallery is NOT in scale to the action figure line. Nor is Aragorn, who hit stores today.

Glad your back, Zach!

If anyone wants to post pictures of Lurtz or Boromir it will not hurt my feelings.

The return of the king!

I'm super excited about the cave troll, the Toy Biz one had some big ugly joints and was famous for the face rotting off (mine is still ok but that's rare).

I think to really get the 1/12 collectors on board with the creature diorama pieces a figure pack in would be huge. Like a retooled Moria Orc with a shield or a bow, but I was already planning to get the troll 😛

Hope a Fell Beast is on the shortlist, the TB one was laughably underscaled

I think the Cave Troll is already going to be expensive, not sure increasing the price with a variant action figure is going to generate sales. Hopefully, people see how it looks with figures and have to have it.

Although, technically, these are 1/10 figures, not 1/12. Your mileage may vary with the orcs, but Boromir is 7".

If the Cave Troll does well, maybe we'll try another creature, one is already sculpted, but we were worried about cost.

Might it be Treebeard? That would be awesome.

I will definitely be a getting a cave troll. Hopefully I can track down some more Moria orcs/goblins as well.

Any hope on getting an Eowyn, Theoden or Faramir once the fellowship is complete? Also hoping for the Witch King in armor. I really hope Diamond finds a way to make the sleeves have less of an impact on hold the sword.

Fantastic line so far!

Treebeard would be awesome! I'm curious the cost, though. Is the Giant-man Haslab price of $200 a good comparison? Or, are quantities and other factors so different that it isn't comparable?

I'm with you on wanting more Moria orcs and figures of the characters you mention. At this point, I'm all in on the line.

I think at least one of those is on the line plan.
