I know we saw some photos of the figures, but was it ever said when Eowyn and The Witch King would go up for pre order?

Official Pics

Would love to see a diorama of the Fell Beast that the Witch King figure could mount, similar to the Cavetroll!

They didn’t do the attached scabbard…

the heads sculpt seems good not great, a strange step down from the A+ sculpts we have gotten from the last few waves.

They both look pretty good! Glad Eowyn is getting a helmeted look too; can't wait to see her all put together- cape, sword, shield. I agree- a Fell Beast diorama would be amazing, even if its just crouched/curled up like the old Armies of Middle Earth miniature set. I imagine the wingspan would be a monster to execute otherwise.

Lol. Honestly.. who the fuck is in charge over at DST? What company releases 'official photography' and doesn't include things like... accessories? I know, I know.. the excuse last time, if I remember correctly, is that they're not sure what accessories will make it to the final product. Which, if that's the case, is absolutely ludicrous. You're taking 'official' photography for release to the public but you still don't even know if she's gonna have like... a sword?
Also hilarious that her baldric is sculpted on (or a separate piece glued in place? - it looks sculpted), but her scabbard isn't attached to it. Her scabbard is not attached to the thing that literally only exists to hold up the scabbard. It serves no other purpose. But it's there. Not doing anything.

Fuck sake. I know this is entirely my fault. I keep coming back to this line thinking 'the NEXT figures.. that's when they'll learn how to do this.' I'm always -genuinely- excited that maybe the next releases will fix all the embarrassingly obvious problems from previous releases. And I'm always wrong. They just continue to be an absolute fuckshow. I don't know if it's stupidity, laziness, cheapness, or a combination of the three. Amazing that they've consistently failed to make Lord of the Rings figures better than the ones that came out 20 years ago and aren't, by modern standards, all that great. It's just been massive disappointments, one after the other.

I do feel like the sculpts are a bit of a let down. Both look thin and lanky, when they are wearing armor and thick robes, and Eowyn's chainmail looks very off, it doesn't look like mail (and I've seen incredibly awesome sculpted mail from other companies). Honestly all the figures of the line lack deeper, sharper sculpts, heavier texturing, kinda like how Neca, Four Horsemen or Mcfarlane do it. They are all decent, don't get me wrong, but they could all be a lot better, specially nowdays when other companies are putting out incredible looking sculpts for the same price. It's just a matter of art directing the sculptors to add deeper cuts and texturing. It wouldn't really cost more, since they are already sculpting the textures and details! At least her unhelmeted head looks pretty good!

They should consider hiring a third party photographer, like One Six Shooter or one of many great toy photographers out there, to really pose the figures and show off the sculpting and articulation better. It would only help to sell more product! And only take the photos after they have decided what accessories will come with the figures.

I noticed the expression on Eowyn’s two looks are different, so we will probs be getting swappable heads.

the design missteps are disappointing, but are by no means a dealbreaker to me. We are getting so close to perfection if each figure was just 10-20% better. Still really enjoying the line and they look so good on the shelf

Sorry people don't like the photos. We actually have a great photographer, but resin prototypes are generally difficult to pose, let alone stand up, and we do NOT go to plastic until we have orders in place. We have been trying to get better with attaching accessories in production, see Boromir, but it is not always done at the photography stage. I'll see if we can get better about that.

The official description actually says what is included, and I gave it to PReternia for the debut, but it will be on the website on Friday:

Lord of the Rings Deluxe Action Figures Series 8 Asst.

A Diamond Select Toys release! The battle for Middle-Earth rages on! The next wave of characters in DST’s Lord of the Rings line of 1/10 scale action figures includes the warrior woman Eowyn of Rohan and the fearsome leader of the Nazgul, the Witch-King of Angmar! The helmeted 7-inch Eowyn features a sword, scabbard, and shield, and the 9-inch Witch-King features a sword and flail, as well as removable flames for the sword! Each comes packaged in a full-color window box. Designed by Eamon O’Donoghue, sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios.

Action Figures   SRP: $29.99/ea.

You may notice that the alt head for Eowyn is not on there, as that is technically not final, but we think we can include it. Believe it or not, the number of accessories is affected by orders, as the more orders we get the more we can include. So we do not always show all of the accessories we prototype, as we usually prototype a few extra just in case.

If you want to SEE the sword, scabbard and shield, and the Witch-King weapons, you can watch the video we released in April (at the 3 minute mark):

Huge win for the scabbard crowd that both the new waves come with them. Does Eowyn’s attach? The video didn’t show it.

Also I did not know the accessories were determined by orders, this changes things, are Amazon PO’s included in that math?

Amazon POs are counted with the rest of the POs. In most cases, we get pricing on a figure based on quantity, and once we know quantity we need to adjust to meet the SRP. How much we adjust varies, but we don't get pricing until we have a prototype.

I'm sure no one cares about that, and they just want us to show the accessories and the articulation and have more detailed sculpting, but I think we are making a pretty good product, even if we aren't doing the best job selling it.

I think the Eowyn likeness is pretty good, and the chain mail is sculpted well -- sculpting is done by Gentle Giant Studios, and they do a great job. They certainly know chain mail.

I think the chainmail on Boromir looks really good, and Eowyn looks to be the same. The costuming has been excellent. I’ll always favor detail over articulation if there absolutely needs to be a trade off, but that’s just me. But I think the articulation has been just fine so far.

MSWord has work begun on the wave after The Hobbit wave that is next (unless something has changed). And has cave troll sales been looking enough to do another in scale creature?

(you can give me all the insider baseball stuff I find it super interesting)

So my question is does Eowyn’s scabbard is attached body?

The final product may very well attach, but he ALSO said in these responses that the photos are of resin prototypes, so things probably aren't going to work 100% like factory figures.
