I got Sam and Sauruman today. I love both of them. I love that Sam can have on his satchel, elven cloak, and backpack all at once.
And Sauruman looks so cool. The likeness of Christopher Lee is excellent.
How are his arms? I have a third one coming, and I may just heat up his arms before switching him out. But I'm nervous about even doing that.
I’ve had Sam and Saruman for a few days now and have switched Sarumans arms out multiple times each with no problem. I would definitely use heat if you’ve broken two already.
What I’ve been worried about is the long pegs for Sam’s hands. They seem likely to snap at any time, so I don’t think I’ll be swapping his hands again

You can always contact customer service if you have a defective item. I have not had any problems with swapping arms.
@msword Just want to add some extra kudos to you all for these figures. Looking at them on the shelf I really could not ask for anything better. The attention to detail really shows how much you all care for the source material as much as we fans do. It really looks like you’ve taken these characters straight from the screen and onto my shelf.
Also, something I noticed is the Leaf brooch for Sam in the movies is facing the opposite way of the rest of the Fellowship. Any chance in this being a possible addition to either one of Merry & Pippin’s, or the eventual Frodo’s?
I gotta agree with the folks who love this latest wave- I don't know if it's just because I like both characters, the fact that they're both crucial characters, or the fact that things are finally starting to come together on the shelf, but man, these last 2 really stand out on the shelf. Sam especially- he just looks and feels deluxe. I'm so happy that DST figured out a way to let him wear all his gear at once.
I haven't had any issues with the arms either, and I've swapped them out a few times. I don't know if this problem pertains to you, whitehawk, but I will say- in a lot of review videos I see (both for this line and others), a lot of the reviewers really man-handle those figures! Lots of pressure or bending and twisting, etc. I know some lines can withstand such things, but these ones are certainly a little bit more fragile. I try to always handle them with as much care as I can- I usually twist back and forth while I pull/push gently, try and keep it all as straight as I can, and I have no problems. Maybe you just don't know your own strength? 😜
Thanks for all your hard work, Zach! I know a lot of us can give you guys hard time, but the fact that you listen and take notes really does mean a lot. I know our concerns aren't falling on deaf ears, and your passion for the line and wanting to make it the best you can really shows.
The arms on my figure easily came out and plugged back in, as did the hands. I can't believe you had that happen with two of them. I'm really sorry to hear that.
I do see msword replied to you though and said you can contact customer service. So, maybe do that if you need to.
I just received my third Saruman and, again, the same issues with the left arm. I didn't break this one, but the moment I felt that same resistance, I just gave up.
Aw well, he's now displayed with my other LOTR characters, holding his staff in his right hand. I wanted him to hold the palantir, too. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.
I can't believe three Saruman figures had this same defect.

how are you pulling the arm out and where did it break?
Having not seen this defect anywhere else, I am wondering if it has to do with your technique. If you pull it straight out, it should be fine. Did you try softening it with hot water?
Not sure what's going on with your Sarumans, whitehawk, but I'm sorry to hear. I went back and tried swapping the arms on mine a few times just to double check, and I didn't have any issues. I can see how the longer pegs might trip some people up, but like msword said, as long as you pull straight out, maybe twist a bit while you do it, and don't put too much pressure on it, it should be fine.
Anywho, I caught a showing of Two Towers last night with the soundtrack played live-to-picture; had been a while since I had seen TT (and even longer since I'd seen the theatrical cut- always extended for me!), but it holds up. Really quite thrilling in parts. But it definitely cemented my want for a Theoden (though I'd probably prefer his ROTK look a bit more) and Wormtongue. I know Wormtongue doesn't have that large a role in the grand scheme of things, but Brad Dourif did such a good job with the role regardless. Slippery, slimy, skeezy, and crucial despite the size. I definitely hope we see him in the line eventually.
Also, Treebeard! I know it's been discussed that it's mostly a matter of how they'd get him out, but it would be such a cool addition to the collection. I remember the old ToyBiz one- I only ever had the basic mainline Treebeard, could never find the large deluxe one, but even still, he was a great figure.
Excited to see the future of this line and where things go once Hobbit characters are introduced into the mix. I hope the LOTR films still see some love.
I feel ya' on the desire for Theoden and Wormtongue! I was telling a friend the other day that Wormtongue had no right to be as good as Brad Dourif made him. I always read him as slimy and weasely, but not sinister. Brad made him all of those and more.
My undying love for all things Gondor is only barely overshadowing the amazing designs of the Rohan culture, specifically Theoden and Eomer. I want figures of those armored looks soooo badly. Eomer was given short shrift in the movies (and both of his toybiz figures sucked) but he was one of my favorite book characters, especially his playful relationship with Gimli and Karl Urban did amazingly with how he was written.
I hope this line has long legs. I know it can't/won't go as deep as the toybiz line, and that's cool by me... as long as it plays all the hits. I don't need every costume variation or super scene specific looks of the mains or every character that spoke a word or appeared for a second on screen (star wars, I'm looking at you!), but I'd love at least every race represented with an army builder and the bigger characters that had impact on the story in figure form. A lot to ask...maybe.
I want any and all Rohan characters in this line. The look of their attires and armors are just some of the best in the trilogy.
I love Rohan, and the Rohan theme music with the violins and all lives rent free in my head at all times. Also, I love Rohan because its people are the Horse-lords. Having been around horses my entire life and loving them, the horses in LOTR were always just as special and important to me as the characters, battles, and visuals. So, I of course love Rohan for that reason as much as any.
I have actually been in the presence of several of the LOTR horses at events including one of the horses who played Shadowfax.
