Wow, can't agree on the "toyetic" thing. Scientific accuracy is THE draw of the line for me, what sets it apart from all others. Wouldn't want to sacrifice that at all.
My concern is the same as is true with the line up until now--their engineering just isn't there for 2-legged dinos. I'm fine with buying 4-legged dinos from them, but I'm not buying a dino who needs crutches to stand. I'm guessing adding on the weapons makes this even more of a challenge, but I guess we'll see. I still think they should do something like give us an extra pair of bigger feet that make it easier to stand, but I see no indication of any change to their engineering or design this time so I'm assuming it's the same problem now particularly given that we see most of the 2-legged dinos on a little clear display stand in the promos. That seems to be a clear indication the line will continue in that direction.
It was one thing to have dinos on crutches as a sacrifice for scientific accuracy, but the Cyberzoic concept makes them even more toyetic, so the line needs toy QC and engineering and I'm assuming that it won't have any of that, again. I'm guessing my 8-year olds who would really want to play with the Smilodon, or that bird-dragon, or whatever they make will want their hands on these guys, but even if I allowed that they're going to get frustrated with the 2-legged dinos who they can't get to stand.
I don't really agree with this criticism, although I see where you're coming from and I'm not saying you're wrong to not like x or y. Just my thoughts:
I don't really think there's any engineering that can be done, short of removing a bunch of articulation and making large portions of the dinos hollow, that's going to make the two-leggers good at standing on their own. Even for the 'make bigger feet' argument... they'd have to be wearing absolute clown shoes in most cases to have any chance of standing on two feet. Especially if you want to do anything remotely dynamic with them; running poses will be absolutely impossible without a stand unless each foot is practically the same size as the rest of the figure.
And I'm saying that as someone that doesn't really want ugly stands holding up the entire front end of a dinosaur on the shelf; the absolute worst place for a stand because it's unavoidable to the eye. At the least, I hope the final stands they release are more clear than that milky color they're using now because that's an eyesore.
So I get the 'ew, it's on a stand' kind of feeling. I just don't think there's much that can be done about it short of just.. not making those particular dinosaurs. And that's not a great solution either. Those particular dinos just don't have body shapes that work well for a free-standing action figure with lots of articulation and heft built into them. And I definitely think a stand is a better solution than sacrificing the realistic designs of the dinos themselves, which is a huge draw for many people and easily one of the factors making this stuff so popular.
As for your 8-year-olds... my son is 9. We play with plenty of toys that CAN stand on their own. And they never do. MTOUO figures are always either laying on the floor when not in hand, or leaning up against Castle Grayskull, or whatever. Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends are propped against the bookshelf or tossed to the side because there's no time to get them properly posed to stand on their own during the heat of play-battle. I'm not sure how your kids play, of course, but I've gotta think either most two-legged dinosaurs will be just fine leaning up against the leg of the couch, or just having a stand tucked under them without upsetting the kidlings. But they're your kids, so maybe I'm totally wrong there.

Truth be told Mattel is already delivering on that front and creeping into Silva's 'museum reality' turf so his best bet is to hold on to the strict accuracy market he's already got while adapting voluntary toy accessories to that mindset for the critters. Imho.

Mattel's JP/JW are accurate to screen, not to science, though

For a toy like Mattel makes. They're not remotely to Silva's quality and don't sell to similar buyers.
Â
Did you just argue Mattel's offerings are near Silva's quality and then also say they're nowhere near Silva's quality?  Me am confused.
I do think Silva's aiming for a slightly different audience base. But Mattel's recent Hammond line is pretty damn good for half the cost. Not knocking Silva's line, as he seems to be doing well with it. So he's found his audience.
Regarding the new cyber stuff. The main product is the scientifically accurate dinosaurs, and the cyber stuff is just an add-on. I don't see why they would sacrifice integrity of the dinosaurs themselves just to make the sci-fi bits work better. The stands have always been a bit of an eyesore, but I don't see how you work around them and keep the scientific accuracy. Unless the feet (and maybe tail) were metal to counterbalance the figures.

No, I argued Mattel are already occupying the 'lean against the wall' niche, and trying to creep on Silva's strict accuracy; which is the only thing setting him apart on the action figure side of the crowded dinosaur figure&statue field. My overall point as part of the then-conversation is that Silva shouldn't dumb down his dinos to make them more toyetic as he'd be losing what stands him out as special.

Dilophosaurus unlocked.
Campaign is unlocked up through the Utahraptor at this point. Three more days to go, and if it's anything like previous campaigns, you will be able to contribute during the Backerkit phase to unlock more tiers if the regular Kickstarter doesn't get to them all. Backerkit not expected to lock until around February.
@cmoney Thanks for that info. I was wondering how the Backerkit was going to work.  This thing is getting much more expensive that I originally planned to spend, but the stuff looks so great, I'm still in. The backerkit will give more time to drum up more hobby cash 😀
Yeah, no need to kill oneself having every penny ready once this closes. I'm sticking to the SaberBlue + Helina for this KS then I'll add in one or two of every other Rider for a few paychecks then looksee what else I can plonk down for before the BK locks up.
This is the way!
Don't forget the the Creative Beast website. That was really great with the Tyrannosaur campaign. There was no rush to pay for everything. I decided to wait on shelling out cash for wave 2 and 3 stuff till they got a little closer to shipping (still haven't placed wave 3 order) because you can order through his website and the prices stay pretty consistent.Â
I'm gonna grab a Tarbosaurus from wave 3 pretty soon and as a preorder it's priced about $7 more than the Kickstarter ($125 compared to KS' $117.) When it comes in stock next month, the price will jump to $139.
To be clear: prices are lower during the Kickstarter and will increase if you simply pre-order through the website after the fact.
I haven't had much to say about this KS, and apparently no one else has either given it's only a 6 page thread. But that doesn't mean the feeling over here is negative, that's for sure. This KS is just absolutely cooking along and I'm loving almost everything I see. I wish I could afford it all, but given EVERYTHING else I'm buying, and how much space I have in my home, I've gotta be reasonable. Or as reasonable as I can be.
But this campaign is making it hard. Every new reveal is just so cool. David and his team have done an absolutely phenomenal job and that's worth pointing out even if I really have nothing else of value to say right now.
