all my xmas guests were impressed with the HISS (as I forced them to look at it, I call it the toy toll), especially the lights (the cobra floor light in particular).  It passed the normie test and nobody scoffed at the price point.  A christmas miracle!  i agree, it's my toy of the year, too.

Mutt and Junkyard came in early from Amazon. As expected, a pretty cool set. Didn’t realize Mutt has a 5 o’clock shadow going on. He’s got forearm hair too which looks kinda strange. Didn’t need to heat or grease up any parts on Mutt to work his joints. I did have to heat up Junkyard’s back leg knees to free up the artic. I like the two tone colors on the rifle and sidearm as it compliments Mutt’s color scheme. The bendy plastic weapons are still a problem on this set as well. The baton was already bent while still in the package. But hey the windows have returned so that’s a plus for me. Another nitpick I have for this set is Mutt can’t hold/store all his weapons. Sidearm and knife have their holsters but rifle and baton have to be held. It would have been nice if there was a slot on Junkyard’s vest to maybe store the baton. Speaking of the vest, I thought it  was removable, but it seems like it may need to be either cut or heat up Junkyard’s legs to pop off in order to remove the vest. I also think that Mutt came with two many extra hands. I would have preferred an extra neutral expression headsculpt for Mutt and open jaw/barking headsculpt for Junkyard. Also would have been nice if Junkyard had a plastic leash he could attach to Junkyard’s collar.

My Target has two Classified items left.  Dusty is on clearance at $12.50, while the Trouble Bubble stayed at full price.

Since Amazon didn't pull in my Mutt &JY preorder, I shipped them from my POL.

Just a random observation - I was reorganizing the Classified figures who are not on display (too many to keep everyone out now) and I can honestly say this is the first and only collection I've ever had where the villains in the collection outnumber the heroes, and I love it. It's mostly because I bought extra troopers/vipers early on, but there's a remarkable number of variations between standard, Python Patrol, and Crimson Guard variants to make it a really satisfying bad-guy army.

I'm officially ready to start recycling (or at least flattening out and putting into storage that way) the foot lockers though. I love the concept but I'm getting stressed about storage.

And super, super random--I never got the right-side handlebar inserted on the first wave's Baroness's motorcycle (it shipped with one handle attached). Always annoyed me that the ball was too big for the joint. 1 a.m. tonight, finished reorganizing (Crimson and Python each have their own unique boxes!) and decided to heat the holy heck out of the bike. FINALLY have a functional Baroness cycle! It's the little victories sometimes, I swear. That red grip has been sitting on my office desk for so long.

I am just now noticing that Ripper’s gun is a modified Joe rifle. Was that the case on the original? Ripper’s Classified design is pretty solid. I also wonder if the tattoo on his left arm is a nod to the fatal fluffies. It has Ripper’s haircut. The knife gun seems more knife than gun.

I just looked it up. Ripper did have a modified Joe rifle originally. Cool.

Thwipp!

Mutt and Junkyard are one of my favorite Joe figures.  Unfortunately, I've been hesitating pulling the trigger on the new on due to the price.  He seems $10-$15 overpriced to me.  I know I'm supposed to look at it and see all the stuff that's packed in with him, but really, most of it is just alternate hands, and alt hands are the least enticing accessory for me, especially when there is an over abundance of them.  I don't need any more than one extra pair, if that, because they just go into a bag.  With GI Joe, I really don't need any more than the two grip hands with trigger fingers that all the rest of them come with (preferably with vertical hinges).  I just hope Hasbro doesn't make a habit of loading figure up heavily with alt hands.  As for Mutt, I'm probably going to buy him anyway.  Besides the price, he look pretty perfect.  If he were a figure with your typical amount of gear (a gun, a helmet, goggles, muzzle) with a dog packed in for $30 or even $35, this would have been a no brainer.  $20 extra is tough.

Price and value is subjective, but if you are on the fence with Mutt and Junkyard, I’d say wait for a sale. Guy comes with too many hands, I agree. These animal two packs are really more palatable at 34.99 than 44.99 IMO. If you can pay full price and are willing, then go for it. As an mib and opener collector, I’ll get at least one at full price to help out the brand stay alive, but my duplicate will have to go on sale before I get it.

I agree.  I wrote up a little rant and deleted it, but basically just saying he's full of fluff and I don't trust swapping hands with other figures after ripping the wrist peg on Shockwave.  If the hands were interchangeable between figures it would be a bigger draw, but the Joe team hasn't quite gone all-in on replaceable hands between figures (or heads, for that matter) which makes things like extra hands and heads much less valuable.  The set still looks incredible though, can't fault the toys themselves, just the price point.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who isn't big on tons of alternate hands. Always figured I was an outlier - I usually pick one set of hands I like (whichever ones would be most-used for posing, so for Joes it's even less variable than say, Legends) and almost never swap them out. If there are two heads I really like they'll often get me for a second figure on sale later to display both though, so in a way I kind of don't want a TON of figures with alternate heads.

I'm paying full price for Mutt cos I love this guy and he was a favorite as a kid, but I really don't need a ton of bells and whistles, especially if Junkyard is as cool as all the other animals they've released so far. Junkyard alone is enough to talk me into paying extra cos Timber, Fiona and Freedom have been absolutely amazing. Even Polly goes the extra mile with detail.

I only want Junkyard, so I'm waiting for a sale. Unless I find someone that wants only Mutt.

When will they learn?  First Vincent, then Jeff.   Stop the madness.
