I'm in for anything with the exception of a lot of the ninja stuff. Skipped Kamakura, the blue ninjas ... Never cared for that aspect of the mythos. Storm Shadow's the only ninja I need.
I wasn't in to Joes much — figures or comic — after 1989 or so but in recollecting the line in the mid-2000s, I really appreciate that there was a lot of good designs/ideas amongst the bad in the later stages of the original line. They also did a lot of cool things with the 25th/POC/Retaliation/Renegades stuff.
‘83 - ‘87 is my sweet spot but I am also fond of a fair few later characters beyond the 90s (the 2 Joes + 1 Cobra siblings, Shooter, Helix, Shadow Tracker) so it’s not like I refuse to pick up anything beyond ‘87. There are plenty of things I’m not fussed about though, like all the ninjas, Tiger Force, Python Patrol, Crimson repaints, etc. And I’m not picking up Mole Rats, or Wolf Spider, and Big Boa always sucked (as did Raptor and Crystal Ball) so I’ll be skipping him too.
I know each shelf can fit 24 normal-sized figs, so I started collecting with a list of the 48 figures I wanted (including doubles of some army builders).
I wound up swiping a 3rd shelf from Marvel Legends when the HISS was announced, but otherwise that plan has helped me manage spending and not over-buy.
Including announced figures, I'm just a Flash and Tollbooth away from completing my wishlist (and I feel pretty good about that first one.)
I’m an all in collector. I was like that for Marvel Legends and Black Series till three years ago. I’m sure I’ll back off with Classified some day. I don’t see when.
I do get that itch when I skip a character in Legends and Black Series but I have a Classified taking it’s space. I mean it’s dumb. I have hundreds of thousands of posable toys with cool accessories. Why do I need more. They make me happy. They bring feelings of youth. It’s really a mental health thing. I just have to balance it out. I’m doing that by selling off older collections so new fans collectors can enjoy.
Thwipp!
I'm in for all mainline stuff, and vehicles. And thus far, I'm in for Tiger Force repaints and likely will get any Night Force offerings.
But I can't get into the Python Patrol releases. Ugly colors, IMO.
I get most things except some of the recolors (like Pimp Daddy Destro, initial retro card figures) or expensive exclusive recolors (like the SDCC Cobra Commander and Crimson Twins).
My favorite line up is '85, and I feel like that year is probably the closest to completion. I love the years that led up to them, and the following two years after. I got an Alley Viper and a Range Viper, despite them coming after '87. I don't care for Python Patrol, Tiger Force, and those repaints. I'm also not completely averse to characters that came about later, though I know next to nothing about them, like Helix. But I skipped Kamakura. I don't plan on getting the Steel Brigade unless the price drops significantly. I'm definitely cutting back on troop builders now that they're releasing more specialists. Like Alley and Range, I'd wind up treating Techno Viper, Televiper, Snow Serpent, Eel, as individual characters. I just boxed up about 75% of my troops due to lack of space.
There are way too many iconic figures in the later years for me to limit them. A lot of people wanna stop at 87 for some reason, which frankly i don't think is a great year outside of outback and tunnel rat. 88 got us Shockwave, Iron Grenadiers, hit n run, Road pig, Destro v2, and probably my favorite figure in the entire run Storm Shadow v2. 89 was a GREAT year for army builders. There isn't one bad figure from 90. Etc etc. Frankly the line got better as it went along, not worse.
When it started I was ALL in... including army building the troopers (I have way too many Alley Vipers)... but quickly space constraints and a flood of product hitting all at the same time made me re-evaluate.
I'm still down for one of each of most of the unique characters. I've stopped troop building almost entirely and each new Cobra soldier that gets introduced is going to be more of a specialist than one of many. I still really like the Python Patrol aesthetic and will continue to get those. I am also going to start being picky about variants of the same character. Do I really need two Dustys or two Tunnel Rats? I already started on the Tiger Force sub team, so I'll probably see that one through... but I'm going to be choosier about getting multiples of each Joe. There's only so much room. And I canceled my pre-order for the Steel Corp. I have no nostalgia for that look and didn't need a 2-pack of randos. If I trip across a set at discount in Ross or something I'll pick it up but decided it isn't something I actually need.
I've always posed my figures in non-battle poses but I've been posing the subsets/repaints in action poses. Like my Tiger Force figures are all in action poses, using up my increasingly-common blast effects, which makes me enjoy them a lot more than just posing them in natural poses like the other versions. Maybe just an excuse to buy more toys but it feels like I'm getting my worth out of having repaints this way.
I don't know if this is old news, but Tunnel Rat is out in Canada for those looking.
Buzzer's glasses aren't the best. I would've been fine with slotted like the Baroness. I pulled six pairs of glasses from my wrestling box that are a better fit than the included glasses, except none match his rounded frames.
I like the thinner arms of this pair's frames.
😎 Lol, but I think they look nicer when the arms stop at the temple area. These might be WCW era toybiz.
Found some wrestling bottles

I stop at '87 because that's when I stopped as a kid. I have no attachment to the characters that came after that. I will probably still get Shockwave but I didn't preorder him. I did get Hit & Run in the modern 4" line, as well as Iron Grenadiers. But I gotta draw a line somewhere.
This Snow Serpent is SOOO close to being awesome, just a few design decisions annoy me. They did such good job on Snow Job with gear storage.
I can't find a place to put the knife. The harness would be great, or pegged into the rifle. Maybe just swap it for a blast effect (really, he should have a knife)
A peg on the pack to hold the rifle or smg would have been great.
I can understand not having a spot for the snow shoes considering how they mount the launcher, but its such a good figure I wish they would have added MAYBE a way to hold those or the board.
I like it, but 3 is my limit. I'll wait for a retro version without all the gear I can't store on the figure.
I’m slinging the rocket launcher over his shoulder and hanging the snowshoes on the hooks on the backpack. I know they’re more meant for the launcher, but it is so wide going across that way. I won’t be displaying the snowboard or the fur. But I agree the guns could have used a peg each on the backpack, and I can’t believe there’s no spot for the knife, unless I really haven’t examined the figure enough. I tucked it under one of the blue straps on his chest. Still a very good figure.
