lame, try again
It's... kinda tough when you're winning so hard? I dunno. It's difficult to engage too much with someone who doesn't pay a lot of attention, but I like collecting your dislikes!
Anyway, Jinx's arms were my favorite part of that figure, but still hope for a masked version where the mask covers her neck as well.
@panthercult I think we're the same age. And have somewhat similar experiences. However, I stayed with GIJoe a bit longer. I definitely started getting less and less after/around 1988. My family moved (not terribly far) in 88, and I gave away essentially all my toys during the move. Something I have regretted at times, since I had a lot of cool shit. I did start to get some Joes after the move, but as the line got more and more wacky and neon, I got out. I did get the occasional more grounded looking figure/character.
I also gave up on the Marvel comic but it was when Ninja Force happened. I know the reprint compendiums are popular, but I think issue 100 is probably a good stopping point. Or somewhere around there. It just starts to get too goofy at some point.
I do love the Joe brand though and have tried different eras of it. I think I even tried a figure from Extreme. Sgt Savage was kinda cool. SpyTroops/Venom vs Valor. As was Sigma 6. Each era has had some good ideas and concepts, even if the product wasn't exactly great.
So Classified has a lot of potential with its ability to draw from all eras. Would be neat to see some of these different eras get Classified treatment. That said, I don't necessarily have an endless want list. I don't hate all the wacky Cobra specialist Vipers on the horizon, but I also don't love them. Kinda prefer just Troopers and Vipers with some more heavily armed guys to accompany them. And I think I've filled up on them. There are probably at least a dozen (maybe two) Joes I still want. And the Oktober Guard. But if the line ends before getting them, I'll be ok. I'm not all-in (never am for any line), but there's plenty more I'll get. It's just exciting seeing what this line is doing, even if I'm not wanting all of it.
@ashtalon I suspect I'm a little younger than you two, but quit with the neon and such. And I think I quit the comics right after Slice and Dice showed up, so again around the same time. But I didn't dive in hard with the figures until 1985, but those few years I was getting them were really good years.
I actually held on to my figures for a long time, then sold them to a used toy shop in San Diego for store credit, which I didn't use before he sold the business to someone else who refused to honor previous agreements. So I essentially gave them away as well.
@mrboshek Spirit is still a probably top 10'er for this line in terms of bang for your buck. $23 MSRP, lots of new sculpt, came with a pet with swappable parts? Classified was really firing on all cylinders for him. I feel like if they did it now they'd find a way to give Spirit more pets he doesn't need and put it in a $45 box. Like how did Spirit for $23 come with Freedom with swappable articulated wings, and then Vulture comes out at $35 with a rubber duck?
RE: Jinx's powerful arms, now this conversation makes me want a buffed out female figure. Let's get some equality on the go. American Gladiators-style female cobra officer when?

With utter seriousness, I was just looking at my collection a moment ago and thinking the EXACT same thing. None of the ladies so far have been super shredded. I'd be happy with just one in there.
I was in high school when I got my last Joe (v4 Snake Eyes) and my stupid teen sensibilities poopooed the direction the line was going, but my terribly mature adult sensibilities now would welcome Ice Cream Soldier, Battle Corps,, Star Brigade and anything else along those lines. Outside of Hooded Cobra Commander, I want the V4 Cobra Commander with the red face plate as soon as possible.
Yeah, I remember leaving Joes right around the release of V4 Snake Eyes and everything got more colorful. I just didn’t like it. I may have picked up a few joe figs from later lines here and there, but my drop off in the 80s was the last time I collected Joes seriously until classifieds. Now, it’s like gimme that Classifieds V4 Snake Eyes like yesterday. Where the Toxo and Astro Vipers at? Battleforce 2000? Hell yeah! Darklon? Who the hell is that? Who cares? He looks kinda cool so gimme. I’ll always favor the “green army men” looking Joes but I’m m no longer against the colorful ones as long as they are made well and look good.
If the Joe line were done for the first time in this era, I assume when Ninja Force was happening, Hasbro would now redo the entire first 13 in their original uniforms with updated articulation and some new sculpting. Basically th Marvel Legends model.
And it's truly awesome how this line has plenty of room for traditional military style, Lovecrafty fantasy, futuristic fantasy, etc...
And for me, I find myself wanting figures I loved 40 years ago as much as the ones I missed out on. Major Bludd is a big one from the latter list
There are only a few I really still want from the era that I collected (1985-1988):
Footloose (coming)
Frostbite
Lifeline
Wet Suit
Iceberg
Fast Draw
Spearhead
I think I'm actually good on Cobra. Monkeywrench is also a big want, and he's coming. There are lots I'd take if they made them, like Sci Fi, Mainframe, Repeater, Hit & Run, Zanzibar, Thrasher, but I'm far less attached to them.
@normdapito thats funny, I'm kinda the opposite. Snake Eyes 3 may be my only must have Joe, but there's plenty of other Joes I'd be into if they do them. But most of my must have list is Cobra anymore. Bludd, IG Destro, Dr. Venom, Scarface, and some of the weird obscure ones like Red Scream or IDW Crystal Ball and Serpentor.
I actually like Snake-Eyes v4, sans the neon aspect to his weapons. I've always preferred commando SE to super-ninja SE, so I appreciated SE v4 being a bit less ninja and giving him webgear. They repainted that costume in green in a Walgreen release years back and it was really cool. Hopefully they do the same thing with the upcoming Classified figure and give us a green/jungle version of the v4 uniform.
I mentioned on a board a while back wanting some thicker/stronger looking female characters in this brand. Strong female Joe. Big strong female Dreadnok. I was going through a nearby mall at lunch a while back. Mall has an army recruiting center in it. There were a couple of young recruits walking through. One of them was an average sized girl, but in army fatigues she looked strong. Not wispy like females in action figure lines. Made me think the Joe brand could use some similarly physically strong looking female characters.
Never cared for Darklon. I think the concept of the Iron Grenadiers is solid and their initial figure and Destro v2 were cool figures. I like the formality to their uniforms. Even Voltar is fine. But Darklon? And other figures from the IG just become too goofy. Some random non-cohesiveness to Cobra? Ok. But IG could have really stuck with a more formal, almost ornamental design to distinguish them from Cobra. Instead, we started getting another freakshow.
I get what you mean about the uniformness. Yeah, some of the later IG figures were absolutely indistinguishable from the Cobra figures of the same years. Some I know are IG just because I know, but not due to any distinguishing factors.
