@panthercult I've been slowly building up on the Crimson army builders to support that side of cobra.
Building that Crimson army (with CGs, Crimson variants of Vipers, BATs, Alley Vipers, and the commanders) is actually what made me come around on cutting back my army building. I got most of them for decent prices, but I had no room to display any of them. I’ve even had to downsize my regular troops. That’s when I swore to just one of each specialist.
I'm usually like that with most army builders, 1 or 2, but with the Crimson builders it's more of the emotional connection. My older brother passed down his action force figures when he grew out of the. My younger brother got into the CORPS, "not gi joe", figures so that made it easy to form a connection with him and start him down the nerd path. I've been thinking about making some customs out of the corps characters.
I'd like to add that I love the classified vibe. I've been doing this since the 80s and have never had more fun than before.
I'm still waiting for some skull squad troopers. Bludd needs some love.
@docsilence yeah give it a shot. it goes without saying to do a little at a time, clean them, and test them. if i had any advice, i'd say be especially careful on the nubs opposite the hip rod, because if you sand those too much, they'll be doing JCVD splits on your shelf in no time.
So I went to set up a Dreadnoks display last night and I don't know if I should display the first version of Zartan or the vintage. Can't decide which one will look cooler with the siblings.
Every group shot I've taken always includes the first version. I really like both, but I tend to gravitate towards the first more.
That being said, that one does have more of a muted color pallet. The twins are pretty bright and might look a bit better with the Retro version.
After typing all of this out, I realize it isn't very helpful .....
If anyone missed it before, BBTS has the Stinger in stock:

So I was watching The Full Force Podcast and he is confirming the next retail wave leak. Of course take it with a grain of salt, but he does have connections with the Classified team so it is probably true.
In case you were not aware this is what is leaked/confirmed right now for the next few retail waves:
(Now)
SAW Viper, Dial-Tone, Zandar and Leatherneck
(Next)
Frag-Viper, Blowtorch, Darklon and Footloose.
(Third 2025 wave)
Snake Eyes (V4), Sci-Fi, Monkeywrench and Night Viper
If this third wave is true talk about a killer wave. The weakest release (for me) is Snake Eyes (V4). Never was a big fan of that look for him.
The rest though....HOO-BOY!!! Love me some Sci-Fi, Monkeywrench and Night Viper!!!
Bring 'em on!!!
They all sound great, other than Darklon — despite my love of gold Destro and his Iron Grenadier forces, I always disliked Darklon and Voltar.
Can't wait to see Sci-Fi and Night Viper.
As for Snake Eyes v4, I was never a fan of the original either but I thought the Dollar General version from around 2010 was done pretty well. And maybe the Joe team will get crazy and release SE in alternate Dollar General colors, which I liked even better:
Ah man, there's a few I want there but Night Viper may be a day one preorder for me.
@grumpymatt yeah, I never liked that original figure but I know it has a lot of potential to be very cool depending on how they do it. That dollar general version is a good example.
I feel like I'm getting less and less excited about regular mainline releases these days. Like, on paper, I definitely want v4 Snake Eyes, Night Viper, and Sci-Fi. But in practice? I'll probably -actually- want the retro-card release of those characters. You know what I mean? I guess I'm just always a little trepidatious about what 'modern' design elements they're going to add to a character that I really like and if I'm still going to like it after it's revealed.
On paper, I REALLY want v2 Storm Shadow. In practice, I kind of hate the figure they actually made. So...
Still awesome to see these figures coming soon and there's always the hope that if they mess around with the design too much, a retro version will come along as well. Night Viper has always been one of my absolute favorite ARAH figures so I'm very excited/nervous about that one.
V4 Snake Eyes is a goofy concept, but it's a definite buy for me - V4 is the one that lasted the longest without getting lost or broken when I was a kid so that's a pure nostalgia pickup for me. Sci-Fi's been on my top five list for a long time. Darklon I never had as a kid so I'm less excited about him. Monkeywrench - huh, I didn't have him either, but I bet they do some parts reuse from the other 'noks to make him. More Dreadnoks more good.
I'm not squad building anymore, but night viper is definitely a good pickup to add to the 'Specialist Vipers' collection I'm building.
I did not know that Dollar Store V4 SE existed. That’s a pretty cool color scheme I did not know I wanted. v4 was the least wanted version of SE I’m aware of. However, I’m actually looking forward to a V4 Classified version in the main line. Hopefully, maybe the dollar store colors can be a Pulse or online exclusive because that would make SE have a “green army man” version in this line since he already has desert colors. Plus he’ll look color coordinated flying a Sky Hawk.
As for the rest of the releases, bring ‘em on one and all. As I’m getting on in my years, I feel the Classifieds line will be my last stand where Joes are concerned. I don’t feel like I will collect the next iteration of Joes whenever that will be, especially if the art and scale change. So I would very much like modernized and classic looks for everyone introduced in the Classifieds line that are from ARAH and up to Claasifieds and of course all new characters.
v4 Snake Eyes sounds like he could be fun and I hope he gets to keep his hot pink goggles and weapons.
That whole third wave sounds amazing to me.
me: "Eh I think I'll just buy army green or neutral tone Joes from now on, they match my main collection and Dragonfly."
also me: "Neon blue Snake Eyes?! He better be PINK too!"
I love how, even if unintentional, the first four versions of Snake Eyes chart very important stages of character growth for him if you adhere to the Marvel comics continuity.
V1: His purest military look, and a time in his life where he's at his lowest point, having been betrayed by Storm Shadow, whom he believes killed the Hard Master. He's still a shadowy mystery man, but he's leaving the ninja life behind.
V2: After a reconciliation with Storm Shadow, he now knows that Tommy did not in fact kill the Hard Master. He embraces his ninja teachings, with a leaner and meaner uniform to go with it. Now is the time for vengeance against the true killer of the Hard Master.
V3: One of the largest transitional points for him, and a very dark period. In attempting to heal himself body and mind, he undergoes plastic surgery to fix his face, and build a future with Scarlett without having to wear a rubber mask. But Scarlett is shot in the head by the Baroness, and Snake Eyes is tortured and partially re-disfigured by the Paine Brothers, whose clothes he steals to piece together this uniform. Apparently he decides to continue wearing their cast off clothing, because the most rational thing to do is wear the clothes of your torturers.
V4: The brightest time in his life, and the brightest clothing he has worn up to this point. Scarlett is alive, Storm Shadow is now an official member of GI Joe, and they have begun training the next generation of ninja with Ninja force,
@ibentmyman-thing Really great observations. I know it's weird that he wore the clothing of his torturers, but maybe it's some kinda... I dunno... owning the experience kinda thing? What they did doesn't define him, he does?
But what about V5? When Snake Eyes aged beyond his hips working properly?
