I COMPLETELY forgot about the most Gung-Ho of Gung-Hos.
Speaking of, I keep swapping a back and forth between retro and updated Gung-Ho for my main display. The modernized one is one of the more low-key ones from those early wave which I appreciate. Though I think he came with one of the most sci-fi coded kits out of those early waves. As someone who really dislikes guns in real life, I really do prefer the closer to reality style on the figures in this line. (Not counting the classic laser rifle, that's my favorite out of all of them for nostalgia's sake. Only Snake Eyes' love of uzis is more canon to me.)
And yeah, I love the vibe in this thread specifically. Feels like we're all just happy to have the line. Which, considering how often the team nails the likenesses and how long it took them to launch a 1/12 Joes line, I suppose I am, in fact, just happy to be here. I save my complaining for one particular collection that has never quite been what I'm looking for the way Classified is exactly what I'm looking for.
Agreed, it's a good bunch in here and a fun damned line of figures.
Classified is the Fountain of Youth for me. GI Joe is the first time I was a collector. Before it there was just a bunch of toys. Some from all sorts of lines. When Joes came along that is all I wanted. I also took care to make sure to keep the weapons together in cases.
Thwipp!
What's funny for me is I just read Gung Ho's 1st appearance in the comic (issue 11) the other night which is also the 1st appearance of the Polar Battle Bear. GH doesn't ride it, that's left to Snowjob, Snake eyes and Doc, but he does lay down in his standard outfit with his mostly-bare chest and arms in the arctic snow causing Rock 'n Roll to remark about him doing it to be sure to show off his tattoo. Guessing the comic is riffing on the box art.
Not gonna lie; as someone with a chest tattoo who will shamelessly show it off, Gung-Ho is just being a real stereotype. When you have that much ink done, you find any excuse to "oops" let it be seen.
On the "just happy to be here" vibe, Classified is the one line I will drop everything to open a new figure when they're delivered. If I'm working from home at the time I'll take a coffee break to unbox them. As much as I love Star Wars or MOTU, I often leave those in the box til I have a quiet night to crack them open. (I do still appreciate Legends enough they rarely stay boxed for more than a day but I don't drop everything unless it's someone I'm dying to get. I legit took a break to open a repaint of a Joe I already had in standard colors.)
This is, indeed, a classy and positive thread, which to be fair reflects what a classy and positive line Classified is. The vibe is just amazing.
Oh! And re the SHARC/Deep-Six, I’m gonna bang the drum that an articulated diving-suit Deep-Six could share core parts with the SNAKE armor and maybe even some Star Brigade: Armor Tech guys like the BAAT and Robo-JOE. And that would be awesome.
@docsilence I'm actually kinda the opposite. I have the V2 of Storm Shadow sitting unopened on the shelf because I'm saving him for a really crappy day where I need that boost. I have Jinx unopened still too, but finally opened Firefly. But I come at them as something to savor. The last Black Series figures I got were the latest single Maul and ROTS Sidious, and I opened both right away and put them on the shelf. I'm happy to have them but Classified is just capturing so much for me anymore.
Sometimes I still can’t believe we have a 6” GI Joe line, let alone one of this quality and breadth.
Same here. I redid my shelves over the weekend, as in got some new ones and pulled some down, filled some holes, and reconfigured then spent the rest of the day having a good time putting everyone back on the shelf again. And sometimes, with certain figures I was really familiar with in the 80s, I'll still have a "I can't believe I have this figure at this size, and it looks soooooooo damned cool". Storm Shadow was always one of my favorites, and the face (and articulation, but what're you gonna do) really kinda sucked. I love the Cobra version of Storm Shadow, he is so damned awesome. And so many of the other figures just bring me a lot of joy.
It’s not a great time in the world right now, but Classified takes some of the sting out.
Agreed, and agreed.
@aceofknaves also agree. I really enjoy the line so much, but also have come to really appreciate all the perspectives in here. Thanks to this thread, I've developed new and serious appreciations for characters like Doc and Mindbender. I've enjoyed and adopted some entertaining shelf canon from others. And obviously gone to town when alerted to the latest price reductions.
yeah I was totally thinking star brigade parts re use later on lol.
robo JOE?
Star BATS? 🤤
haslab ARMOR BOT!
…I’ll show myself out.
Man, all those Raptors that were $10 at Christmas are back to their full price on the pegs at my Targets. They didn't follow through with clearance. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they go back to clearance, but that's so strange that they went back to full price.
I received the Iron Grenadier BATs from EE yesterday. I had pre-ordered six so EE sent me case of six. I really like the gold on these. I still like the Crimson BATs the most but these are probably my second which used to be the Arctic BATs.
