@aceofknaves I think something like the spats could be cool if the rest of him veers in another direction. Having that one old-timey aspect could be cool rather than having him look like a castmember of Guys & Dolls cosplaying as the Hamburgler.

On the Walmart return front, I noticed the latest Falcon & Quarrel sets I ordered are coming from Arizona. Come on, Walmart. I happen to know there are some at a store just half a mile from me.

Has there been word about Eco-Warriors at all, even jokingly? I'd be all in on that ridiculousness. In particular, both the existing Flint had and the one in the leaked photo are both so mature and dignified that I think it would be HILARIOUS to see either one of them in a neon green jumpsuit.

And Deep Six with a dolphin is probably in my top ten wishlist. So dumb, but I love it. (They'd try to articulate hte dolphin, wouldn't they.)

Headman could be really interesting if they steered him into less pinstripey. I'm not sure is to make him better but I'd be very curious how they could tackle that one.

They can go full ‘70’s pimp suit, and we can pose him with PD Destro. 😀

I’d be more about a De Palma “The Untouchables” Capone-style look, but I’m all about Headman being an anachronism. I love the idea of a hardened “mob boss” drug dealer with expensive taste working with Cobra. Then do Gristle as his goth-punk-biker street enforcer.

I am just now reminded that I used to play with my DEF figures while watching New Jack City. The bad guys usually won.

Yeah, I have no problem with Cobra aligning with organized criminals. My file cards make it clear they already work with cartels and other organizations around the world. I'm just still not sure what Headman should look like to fit in with my vision, but if they go full on ridiculous with him, I'm happy to step out of the way for those of you who'll devour it. 🙂

@ru1977 Now I'm wondering where, if at all, Cobra draws an ethical line. Thinking of that old Marvel/DC crossover comic where Joker finds out Red Skull is literally a Nazi and not just putting on an act and tries to shoot him because that's too far even for the Joker. Is there anyone Cobra wouldn't work with? Kingpin? Absolutely. Lex Luthor? They did lunch last week! Skeletor? He's in CC's top eight MySpace friends, right next to Megatron. AIM? Cobra's a client of AIM's and Destro hates the competition. Hydra? I'm thinking... yes. Even if they don't believe in the same ideology they'd see them as a useful ally.

Galactus - no, but only because you need a world to exist if you're going to rule it so they'd oppose him eating Earth. Same with Thanos, too nihilistic for someone who craves power and influence.

(EDIT: And most DC rogues galleries are just great additions to Cobra's stable of weirdos. Mr. Freeze, Clayface, all those guys are recruited to cause chaos like Croc Master, Firefly, Raptor, all those societal rejects.)

@docsilence That is a fantastic question, and I'd love to know as well. There was an issue of Special Missions involving a German war criminal, but I don't think Cobra was there at all, so it may not be a question Hama wanted to answer.

Much as I like for most of my villains to draw the line at Nazism/white nationalism/MAGA etc, it’s hard for me to justify Cobra turning away fascists and genocidal maniacs. Although I generally try not to think about which specific Cobras are ‘phobes, racists, redhats, etc. Classified is helping me rehab Cobra in my mind by making their ranks more diverse. Still . . . probably some serious deplorables hiding in the Cobra ranks.

Though mostly I think the more prominent Cobra contactors, like Firefly, are legitimately amoral and basically conscience-less: they don’t give a fuck for anything beyond profit and *maybe* power, depending on the character. So essentially capitalist psychopaths. Or just capitalists. 😉

I always thought Firefly just liked to see things go boom.  My general headcanon for most Cobra is just their love for anarchy, destruction, and just general mayhem drives them to begrudgingly cooperate.  The Joes are just more responsible, almost like Cobra's nannies.  Breaking things is easier than fixing them, which is the only reason why Cobra is constantly one-step ahead of the Joes.  I think this is all leftover thoughts from growing up watching the cartoon.  Night Force are my only proactive Joe squads, they go and actively screw with Cobra.  Everyone else is reactionary and is either constantly preparing or engaging in defense missions.

Except Outback.  Outback does whatever he wants.

And we're back to the question of where's the hooded CC figure.

@ru1977 ROARED laughing. Yep. Right there. Time is a flat circle.

Although I think it's that fun question of a lack of an ideology again. You've got Firefly (pay me to blow stuff up - I literally don't like or or care about why or even about who), Zartan (I think he's a professional chaos agent - Zartan is out for Zartan), the 'noks (classic biker gang - paying us to cause havoc? NOICE what do you want us to break?). Then there's the profiteers and the bloody WEIRDOS.

But the rank and file? I bet they get a lot of disaffected folks. Real world mercenary work pays WAY better than legit military work. I bet their rank and file are mixture of "I like to make money and play with guns" and guys who would shoot up a pizza place to break up a... well, we know that story. I bet a lot of the Cobra rank and file don't even like each other.

"Bill? You don't want Bill watching your six. That guy sleeps with an uzi under his pillow and watches how-to Youtube videos on quick draw techniques by gun influencers. Frank though? Frank did 20 years in the service but got screwed on his benefits when he got out, he's here to pay off his mortgage, he's a good guy."

(EDIT: I think this is why I love the Dreadnoks the older I get. As I kid I thought they were smelly and stupid and didn't like them. Now? Bro we just want to live off the grid. In another lifetime Buzzer runs a dispensary in western Massachusetts.)

According to his file card, Buzzer was an Oxford academic who self-inserted into Australian biker gangs to study for his dissertation and then just Ferngully’d into the gang proper. Totally checks out.

And heheheh hooded Cobra Commander is STILL my #1 want in Classified. I like to see his crazy HUMAN eyes, and I have zero problems with a scary terrorist looking like a scary terrorist. Still have that extra-spooky exclusive from back in the day with him in the hood and a suit at a podium with a microphone. THAT is Cobra Commander to me: spinning his cult audience with easily-digestible lies to get them to do his bidding.

Not to dredge up the old argument, but even I (working in publishing, usually in YA, hyper aware of hot button issues and forgiving of companies being gun shy about stuff) would love to see the hooded CC, even if it's just like, a Pulse exclusive or something.

@aceofknaves I've never seen Ferngully'd as a verb and I am absolutely using that in my everyday speech from now on, that's a hoot. One of the few character swaps they did across media types that bugged me was making Buzzer an idiot. Buzzer's not stupid - he looked into the void and decided to jump into it. He's my favorite of those maniacs.

@ru1977 It would be an easy repaint to get another use out of the mold.
