Ah right, thank you!

Darklon is pretty interesting if they're doing an unmasked head, if that isn't from something else like you said.

🤣 🤣

With Slice and Dice apparently on the horizon here, I have two very firm wishes:
1. I hope they don't skimp on the paint apps and actually give Slice his red dot/splatter pattern.
2. I hope they release a retro-carded Storm Shadow that's actually an accurate reproduction of the vintage black and white Ninja Force figure. That early Classified figure sucks all the balls, and Storm Shadow is the -best- design from NF. It would be a shame to never have him done properly here.

Also, I will not accept further delving into NF unless they're going to give us Zartan on his motorcycle. That figure is the perfect combination of '90s EXXXTREEEEEEME and ridiculousness.

@theknightdamien That's funny, I was looking at the "Arctic" Storm Shadow last night, but yeah I would prefer a retro NF version for sure. Also good call on Slice's speckles. it was a really cool part of his design. I'm really on the fence about Slice and Dice as I kinda don't want Dice, but they "if I get this one then I need that one too" is baked right in with their damned names. Well played, 90s Hasbro.

I see more and more people are customizing the V2 Storm Shadow now, and there's a shortage of V1 belts on ebay heh.

There's definitely something to be said for striking while the iron is hot, but also something to be said for jumping the gun. I feel like there's no way Hasbro hasn't already planned out a Retro-card V2 Storm Shadow without all the guff they tacked on to the modern version. The customizing panic seems to come more from 'I want it now' than from a genuine belief they'll never get around to it at all.

The thing that worries me about Slice is looking back at the Modern Era/25A versions of Slice and NF Storm Shadow. Slice was a collector's club figure and looked pretty good, and had the speckling. NF Storm Shadow, when they finally fucking got around to him, was one of those Dollar General exclusives and DID NOT have the speckling that the vintage toy had, and looked way worse for the lack. I'd hate to see them do that again, not only with Storm Shadow, but with Slice, because it's a retail release and therefore skimpy with paint apps whenever possible.

Granted, new Joes have been reasonably generous with paint on the figures, so maybe this is toy-PTSD rather than something I have legitimate reasons to be worried about.

I concur. And I'm going through it right now because I want to do a classified approximation of this Shipwreck:

Shipwreck (v17) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive

But... they'll probably do something somewhat close eventually... right?

All good points, but I certainly don't know how to reason one way or the other there.

Or maybe they'll do Slice without the speckling and later on comes the retro version...

@ru1977  Honestly, I don't actually know if I'd hold my breath on either of those things. That Shipwreck isn't exactly a fan favorite. If anything, I could see them doing the modern-era version with the blue sweater. That version? Maybe as a variation of Grunt or something, that you could pop a spare Shippy head on?
Likewise, I would be VERY surprised if Hasbro views Slice as a character that can carry multiple releases. Storm Shadow is iffy on ever getting a proper Ninja Force version, but at least he's a major, fan-favorite character that WILL get new versions, so it's just a matter of hoping for -certain- versions. Slice? I think he's a one-and-done.

@theknightdamien thank you.... Alright, fine, I'll do that shipwreck. And as far as Slice, come on man. Maybe I'm too much a child of the 80s but... Ninjas!!!

@ru1977  lol  - I know, right? I'd like to think 'ninjas' is still a good enough reason to make figures. But we're like 4 years into the line, right? Still don't have most of Ninja Force, we're only just now getting v2 Storm Shadow, and we're still missing decent versions of -most- of the Snake Eyes variants. If we can't reliably get the most popular ninjas in the mythos, I'm not sure what chance there is for multiple versions of third-stringers like Slice and Dice.

My last Joe was V4 Snake Eyes in 1991. I didn't really like the aesthetic direction the Joes were going, so I figured I was done, but Slice, Dice and the whole Ninja Force thing would have brought me back. However, due to the fickle nature of the toy shelves at the time,  I never saw them. It was even worse when Slice and Dice fought Destro and other Ninja Force members at Destro's mountaintop castle in the comic and that made me want them even more. But nothing. Nada. No ninja no ninja no.

So I am all over any later-era ninja they want to throw at us, and that includes Firefly and his green and gray tech-ninja look.

I love that green look for Firefly.  Growing up, I thought that was his default look.  Made sense considering his name.  He came with a goofy beyblade, one of those jagged ripcords that you'd pull to make a top spin, which was such a "thing" in the 90s.

Please don't make it a $35 Deluxe, we don't need the spinning top.

On a semi-related note, there some extra pics here of Heavy Duty, as well as painted prototypes of Footloose.  The great paint job on Footloose makes him a buy for me.  I wonder if we will get a Retro Heavy Duty without facial hair or the big gun overalls?  That'd be the version I want.

I want to say that Firefly was the last Joe figure I ever got. I was already out of Joes but I loved Firefly so much, and I was still reading the comics and that was enough of a commercial to get me to get the figure apparently. I did have Snake Eyes V4 and I wanna say he was the first 'ugh, why did I get that' figure purchase I had. V3 was, to me, just perfect.

Footloose was my 'default grunt' as a kid, since I didn't have Grunt heh. And I still quote that episode he had with Dusty when he said "Man, you are deeply deluded". It's pretty ridiculous what an impact Footloose and Shipwreck had on me.
