If they release a no frills HISS, I'm screwed with that stupid impulse second HISS I ordered. At the time of the campaign, I was doing a minimum of two troop builders for symmetry. So I have a second HISS completely sealed in its original shipper that will remain so, because I've pared down to just one of each troop builders, now considered a specialist. I'd love to get my money back for it, but it seems less and less likely.
I can't believe that nowhere in this post are the words Wokka Wokka.
That some serious disrespect to a comic genius. That's a crime against humanity.
Could the new Oversize model for ML, and the fact they are now doing a comparable Sentinel (to the Haslab), mean Classified might try their hand at something similar?
So maybe a no frills HISS could get made and be released as a made to order vehicle at a higher price point ($175-$200)?
I haven't seen a side by side between the two to tell the difference, so I'm not sure if the 97 Sentinel shares any parts, or has all new stuff. I could see a HISS with no lights, no side missiles, no moving tread, only the one flip up canopy, one driver figure, and only the two main guns on the turret. I'd be down. I think there is enough versions in the past to pick a color scheme that seperates it from the Haslab enough the the Haslab Hiss stands out enough on it's own to still make it special.
If they release any Haslab project as
“no frills” or stripped down or altered or whatever, I’m personally never ever backing another one.
Ever.
I will just wait for the “no frills” version and save hundreds of dollars of my money instead of giving it to hasbro. 🤷🏾♂️
That new Sentinel is distinctly smaller than the HasLab version, so a simplified HISS Tank might follow suit. Less details in the mold and maybe smaller to the point where they don’t have space to have figures sitting in the back compartment.
I will say if they do go down the path of a scaled down, less robust HISS as a made to order preorder, I would expect it to still have working treads. I have no interest in paying $150US+ for a HISS with static plastic treads. It was easy enough to get away with back in the 80s at the smaller scale. However today, at the 6" scale, it would look terrible, and cheap. At least in my opinion.
If they go the no-frills method going forward, I hope they don't go back to the HISS at least for a while. there are so, so, so many options they could produce at a Stinger/VAMP level of quality this way without going whole hog like they did with the HISS.
Yeah, the option does devalue the previous version a bit, but for me it's more about "give me three really nice 100 dollar vehicles versus one three hundred dollar AMAZING vehicle and I'm happier." Coming up with a hundred bucks a year for a vehicle and driver is a lot more appealing than coming up with $350 every other year for a vehicle with tons of bells and whistles I may not use often and four figures I can't get anywhere else, in my opinion. But maybe it's just me.
Alot of discussion to catch up on today - going to pop in to Ross today to check and see if they have any Joe's showing up there. Cheap Joe fodder is always welcome.
A less Expensive HISS offering would be welcome I think - even for those that went for the HasLab since troop building is a thing in this line, but also for those that skipped it. A stripped down vehicle with only one figure included for $150 (dare to dream?) could be pretty great.
Target.com shows two stores in my county each having 1 Tiger Paw in stock. Seems unlikely but I'd love to eventually come across one.
I have, so far, passed on all the anniversary figures. I am definitely going to be getting a few of those firefighters. I missed the first release of Mindbender, so I'll grab him. The first version of Rock'n'Roll is still in the box but I think I'll be fine with him. Cobra Viper looks cool, but I don't like the lack of racial diversity and ones I have from the first two releases are good enough for me. I will probably get Footloose even though he looks kind of plain. Cobra Outpost is probably a pass unless I can get it on clearance. I don't like that Snake Eyes, but the polar bear is nice.
Got my Quarrel/Falcon pack, it's as good as expected. Not much to say, although the plastic quality overall is a huge upgrade over the Retro Trooper. I don't know why the Retro Trooper's M16A4 flops like an al dente noodle while Quarrel's version bends just enough to not snap, but it's a huge difference. I'd like for the head sculpts to have a little more emotion, and the helmeted heads look a little too small. Quarrel's arms won't go down to her sides and the butterfly joints are useless. Meanwhile the butterfly joints on Falcon are outstanding. I wish all the figures had the range of this body. They really need to figure out these armpit joints.
@docsilence I don't know that they could do a non-Haslab HISS for under $150. Mostly due to size. If the Vamp/Stinger are $100 and then they offered a HISS for $100 I, and I'm sure others, would start to question what they are charging us for vehicles. However $150 with a figure might be doable.
@canprime Yeah, you're right, they couldn't get it down to VAMP price, but $150 doesn't sound far fetched.
Feels like the way the mid-sized vehicles sell out they'd at least want to experiment with this new model of bigger ticket item preorders for stuff. I keep wondering what scale vehicle is best for this - Snow Cat sized? Bigger, smaller?
I found 3 Scrap Irons for $15 and 4 Grunts for $8 at Ross today. I never find anything at Ross, at least until now. I grabbed the 4 Grunts to use as cannon fodder army builders since he is so generic looking. Unfortunately that was a Ross 2 hours away and I never find anything at my local one.
Oh man... If I can find Grunt at Ross for $8 a pop I will buy as many as I can find. He's as close as there is to "generic army man" so he's basically perfect for any spare heads (and hands if there are color swaps involved) lying around. This is how you bulk up that infantry son. $8 Grunts is exactly what the doctor ordered.
I would like a dedicated green shirt. Gimme a 2 pk of a Green Shirt vs Cobra Infantry Trooper with red facemask. Or a desert trooper.

I was hoping the extra heads from my duplicate SHIELD army builder guys would fit him but they don't even begin to without major modifications. Right now I've just got the full helmets on them.
Found a couple of Grunts at the local Ross. Maybe it’s still too early but Joe pickings at Ross seem slim so far compared to last year in my area. Probably have to wait for November to see bigger batches maybe. Either that or Hasbro really did cut down on production this year.
