I admit I have never known anyone who went by 'Chip', either involuntarily or intentionally. I knew a guy named James who went by 'Chuck', which I still think is amazing. Sometimes the nicknames readily available to your name just aren't doing it.

To bring it back to Joes, yes our circle of friends called him 'Chuckles'.

Another dumb thing for me to be bothered about with Jinx is... how does her scabbard hang on her back? I'm the type that needs a strap.

@theknightdamien FWIW I didn't get "hate" from your posts at all, just personal preference. (And I mean, that's what we're here to talk about right, what we think of the line?)

Unrelated, I thought Marauder Sarge was a Pulse exclusive but saw him decently discounted on Amazon today - figured I'd replace the broken one I got from Pulse originally. Been bugging me to have one-footed Sarge kicking around.

@docsilence I appreciate that. Although to be fair, I absolutely do hate the name 'Chip.'

The other stuff is just, like you said, a bunch of dudes that play with toys talking about what they do and do not like about the toys they buy. Which is like.. literally what this forum is here for. So, I dunno. Maybe it's because I've repeated myself a few times on the topic, but that was only because I felt like maybe the specific complaint I was leveling was being misconstrued from 'I don't think it looks good in this way' to 'I don't think this specific thing should ever be done.' I can over-explain when I think I'm being misunderstood, for sure.

But if they ever name a G.I. Joe 'Chip' - fuckin' watch out.

OK,  I just received and opened my Chip "Raptor" Talon figure and first and foremost -  is there a douchier, more on the nose name than "Chip Talon"

How about a Hollywood action hero with the legal name of “Rip Torn”? (Not a joke, really, but an incredible simulation.)

There is no guy named Chip that isn't an entitled douchebag (in my experience - though I have only actually met 3 guys named/called Chip in my life)

Ive only actually met one, and though we didn’t have much in common, he was an okay guy.

and if your last name is actually "Talon" is there anyway you don't become obsessed with birds of prey?     The ridiculous feathered mini-vest.   The absolute over the top bird cowl,   which looks normal on a super-hero costume or on the Sorceress from Eternia,  looks absolutely hysterical on a paramilitary bad guy.

This ventures into one of the aspects of the Joe mythos that I don’t care for.  The “super powers”.  While they were never Hulk, or Phoenix levels, there were certain characters that had them.  It took me out of the whole military conflict experience.

This figure is just screamingly funny and I love it to pieces.   I think I'm going to keep the wing back pack off him for basic display and he's going to run with the Dreadnoks because that's way more his vibe and look than any other Cobra faction.

The figure is awesome though.

This said, I’ve nothing against the actual figure.  It looks like a quality one.

Sarge wasn’t exclusive to Pulse. That was Spirit and Low Light.

So many Joes to open. I’m gonna take my time. Sniper is so awesome. Halo is pretty sweet too.

Thwipp!

Again with the tattoo hate? Why? The dreadnoks were turned into a biker gang last I checked. Makes perfect sense to me for them to have ink. I'm still waiting for the yakuza storm shadow we were shown first.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense. Never said it didn't. If you don't get the 'hate,' I dunno - go read the actual posts about it? Not in a rude or aggressive way, but it's been spelled out already, and I've repeated some of that here in this post for continued clarity. It has nothing to do with what is or is not -thematically appropriate-.

Missed the part where I singled you out.... in fact i agree with you on most topics... but i was referring to the general hate I see, and it's not just here. I'm of the mindset that the main line should be all modern takes, and the retro line all classic look. They have everything to do it, but we know that's not going to happen.

I didn't say you singled me out, but I pointed at my own posts for clarity on the 'hate.' You can say you're not just talking about here, but you made your post literally in the midst of a few of us specifically talking about not liking the tattoos. So it's a little disingenuous to be like 'well not YOU guys... my complaint about the tattoo hate is totally separate from that exact conversation you guys are having.'  Ya' know?

And I'm still not sure you quite understand the issue (at least my issue - which seems to be what others have agreed with), as it really has absolutely nothing to do with a 'modern take' on the character, and everything to do with whether or not the design looks good.

Even just more generally - ignoring the tattoos for a moment - I, personally, have no problem with modern takes on Joe characters. Where I believe the divide is on that issue is that some of the modernizing elements just aren't good and actively make the classic design worse. Golden greaves on Duke is bad. Not because it's too modern or futuristic - but because it was ugly. Road Pig's belly tattoo isn't bad because tattoos are 'modern' - it's bad because it's ugly and distracts from the more interesting visual elements of his design. Camo Storm Shadow isn't bad because he has modern elements. It's just that those modernizing elements are ugly and not really well-considered.
On the other hand, the Techno-Viper got that fuckin' sweet hologram thing and I love it and it's a great addition to that character even if it's not pure ARAH. That was a modernizing element that worked really well and enhanced the character instead of detracting from the design.
Am I making sense or just kind of talking in circles around myself?

To be clear, this isn't me attacking you or getting upset or anything like that. I know tone isn't great on here and people do tend to jump to the idea that someone is being offended or angry or whatever. None of that over here on my end.

So the Google trick worked and it says it is in Stock at a store less than 10 miles from me... so I can give that a shot I guess.

Just to follow up on this - I took the 20 minute trip out of my way to try and get the Tiger Paw.   Nothing on the shelf.   I find a friendly employee who looks it up and says it should be on the floor, but that could mean anything.   Could be in someone's cart,  could be hidden somewhere, could be stolen.    He apologized and went on with his duties.   No Wreckage for me.

That sucks. The closest one to me with one showing in stock was 34 miles but I felt confident I'd have the same story.

If Chip is not a furry cartoon animal, he's not cool. It's statistically proven.

Last Chip I met was the one super religious guy on set for a film I worked on. Nothing against religion, but trying to get people to pray at craft services is a no-go, Chip. Please stop.

Wondering if Amazon's deal days will drop one of the generics enough that would work as a head swap for Lady Jaye. I definitely have an extra Lady Jaye I'd like to customize but I'm not into the generic Action Troopers to buy them full price.

It's funny, the modern vs. classic thing - I actually liked, or at least was okay with, the modern looks UNTIL they started releasing such amazing vintage-style figures. Loved Cobra Island Roadblock, Tiger Force Duke, thought Scarlett's modernized head sculpt was beautiful (okay, maybe she just looks like my type but I'll own that), fancy pants Cobra Commander, the first Beachhead, modern Stalker, but man, EVERY carded version has become my go-to for the character and I was pretty happy with the earlier version. I think the modernized figures have some missteps (those shin guards, overuse of heavy vests on guys like Flint), but mostly for me they fall behind because the retros are bloody PERFECT.

And I'm a fool, cos I'll keep buying modern versions and then a year later totally preorder a retro version. Every time. Pavlovian.

It had been $30 for a while, now they just took it down to $28.  I'm holding out for Black Friday / Cyber Weekend.  I got the HALO Jumper and thought I'd like him more than the SEALs, but as cool as he looks all loaded up, the frogmen just look cooler.  I'll probably get 2 more SEAL divers before the end of the year.  And the Eels STILL don't come with a weapon beyond a speargun/knife even in the rerelease!

@vicious7171 How's the stripe on CC's helmet?

Up here (Canada) people on another board have been talking about the poor quality of the stripe.  Whether it is bad alignment, or poor paint application, it seems a bunch, mostly from Gamestop I think, have been pretty poor in that respect.

Still waiting on mine from Amazon so I can't speak to it directly, yet.

I'm in a conundrum. I have retro CoCo. Dig the chrome and bright blue and overall construction. The one feature of CoCo I've never really liked ever where his pants and short jacket. I don't know why.  I really like the first release CC as it was instantly recognizable as him, and the boots and cape and longer jacket just worked better. But I don't know what to do with either of them now. I took the cape and knife harness off of v1 and put it on retro, and it works somewhat, but not totally satisfied with it. Who gets displayed? Who gets hidden in the background? Do I make them fight? Is one a LMD? Or Fred VII? Alternate outfit for a rainy day?
