@docsilence I didn't know there was a comic book for City of Heroes! What the hell. I played the ever-living shit out of that game. I had three different heroes and one villain. So much fun.
Feel free to share where to find the story you re-tooled from it (I really dug The Indestructibles).

City of Heroes is back again now.  Homecoming Servers got the license from NCSoft to run an official private server and it can be played for free.  They've added a lot of new powersets and content.  https://forums.homecomingservers.com/getting-started/ if you are interested in a trip down memory lane.  I have been playing for 20 years now.  God, how time flies.

Got charged for the Wal Mart exclusive 2 pack today. Looks like it'll be right on time for the Oct 2nd release window.

@justice I don't know if I have a PC able to run a game these days, but I played COH from launch to close. Heck, most of the characters in my book series were basically beta tested in-game to see if they worked as characters. I'll have to see if my aging Windows backup laptop can run it!

@theknightdamien Really appreciate you checking out the Indestructibles - glad you liked it! I retooled "Repent, Builder" from COH #11 in an anthology I put out this year, Tales from the Indestructiverse (a bunch of world-building and one-shots). Given so much inspiration came from COH I had to include it for historic purposes.

@docsilence the game is so old now that most systems run it with no problems. My outdated gaming PC that hasn't been upgraded in years can run it on ultra settings and even my old non gaming laptop can run it fine on reduced graphics.

@docsilence Nice! I'll have to pick that up when I get a chance.

@justice Yeah, I can't imagine 'I don't have a gaming PC' being a huge concern for an MMO that was popular more than fifteen years ago. MMOs in general aren't usually designed for high-end PCs because the whole point is to get the most people playing. So 'not designed for high end PCs' in 2004 means that, today, you can probably play it on your toaster.

So I got the carded Cobra Commander today and... Dang he's a REALLY nice figure. The reflective mask is shockingly effective. Only complaint is his knife sheath doesn't want to stay on and his elbows are a liiiiiiilttle too tight but really nothing that can't be fixed with a a little heat.

He's so good I'm a) glad I never opened my Haslab one even though I REALLY wanted to and b) am now wondering if I should just open the Haslab one because I kinda want to display both? It's the whole "I'm never going to sell this figure, why not enjoy it" factor kicking in combined "yeah, but THIS one is even better?"

I gotta say, I don't think there's been a single carded figure I didn't like more than the original and I actually LIKE the modernized versions. I mean 001 is the best Snake Eyes but the carded SE is my favorite non-medieval-style-visor version of him for sure, Scarlett's one of my favorites in the whole line, and all the rest were just a solid step up from the one before. Heck, with Storm Shadow and Stalker I just had plain old QC improvements (my boxed Storm Shadow had frozen hips). No I REALLY want to get the Cobra Trooper soon.

I've been trying to think about the next retro carded set of releases -  we must be getting close.

I was wondering if they would do a Wild Bill after the Dragonfly was in people's hands.    It would make sense as a way to get him done.

But would they do the original burst card back look on the retro card:

or fudge it and do the cartoon colored version?

And who else gets a retro card release?   Shipwreck?  Flash? Would they do a retro before a regular?  That would be interesting...

I’m 85% sure next wave of Retro is Flint, Major Bludd, and either Covergirl or Breaker. I am 100% sure Wild Bill will have retro release in Sunbow colors. I just see Hasbro doing Wild Weasel and Wild Bill extremely popular characters in a way for fans who didn’t back the vehicles. I guess time will tell.

Thwipp!

I would LOVE if they do a retro Major Bludd. I've been keeping a space on the shelf just in case.

Also, I just got Wolf Spider. VERY cool figure, though I will switch out his main weapon. Also, I've passively missed having file cards on these packages but never more than with Wolf Spider. I need to know where he was born and his specialty and some badass quote from Hawk about his prowess! No sarcasm.

I forgot we haven't got a classic Flint yet! I ended up making one (kinda) by cutting the vest off the original and honestly aside from the black of his shirt looking faded underneath, I like him better without the vest. I'd buy a proper classic version for sure.

Thinking about what a Vintage Cover Girl woud look like. Long hair or blonde? rolled down sleeves? Not sure, but she seems like she'd be a good option.

It's funny how the further back in the line you go the more they "need" a classic look and how the more recent figures are kind of almost there (Spirit, Shipwreck, Tunnel Rat, Low Light are all pretty close to Vintage already). What about Tripwire? He's one of the few modern looks I really don't like much just cos he's so bulky. Like I appreciate the realism but his original toy was so slim I'd love to see a similar one (probably with lots of reuse for a future Flash.

Retro Flint and Bludd are definite wants. I’d also like a retro O13 Hawk. Retro Rock n Roll was talked about too awhile back.

I imagine if they go with Retro card versions of Wild Bill and Wild Weasel they could probably go with the Haslab looks and be done.   Of course they could do some deco changes as well to make them different.

However there are a number of examples of Haslab figures being packaging exclusive to the Haslab, while a retail release is basically the same figure, just different packaging.   Now they haven't done that in Classified just yet, outside of Cobra Commander, but they have done that a number of times with Star Wars and Marvel.   Different packaging, no packaging, different accessories, different decos, etc.

So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to get Wild Bill and Wild Weasel on Retro cards with almost the exact same look as the Haslab versions.

Man, throw Wild Bill v2 on the Outback buck and he's getting day one preordered.  Cover Girl...yeah not sure where they can go from here.  They already kinda did her as a Retro.  She needs a new head sculpt.
