@normdapito I’m so 100% going to buy a V2 Stalker. More accurate headsculpt to swap out with the retro would be a huge plus. Not that I mind the Classified headsculpt which I actually like. However, I demand V2 Stalker’s canoe/kayak actually be able to float on water so I can fill up my sink and have him float there overnight. Maybe even let the boat be a 2 seater this time so that he can take SnowJob, Iceberg, or Blizzard on a mission.
My biggest pet peeves with so-called "updates" or "redesigns" for this line is it usually boils down to stapling things on to a figure just for the sake of something different. Storm Shadow's peepee flap doesn't do anything to enhance the original design, and his thigh mudflaps don't add anything to his silhouette. It's just ninja bulk, along with the swords at his side so if he turns around too fast he knocks the person standing beside him down. And the whole "makes him more of a samurai" thing makes no sense either.
Either way, I'm going to stop complaining and hope the entire centerpiece chunk can just be removed.
Well….I never said I wasn’t going to that either. 😎
If they ever make a Classifieds Whale, then that will warrant a trip to the beach. Double fun if it was remote controlled. 🤔
@leor if you have any dollar tree stores nearby, this cheap kayak fits Joes really nicely!
I'm kind of surprised more people aren't talking about Retro Stalker's beret. Shouldn't it be a dark, one colour, green? Not the same camo colour as the rest of his uniform? Granted you can just use his first release's beret, but I would have thought they could get that colour right for the retro release.
@canprime they are making it match the original card art. Strange as it seems, the picture on the card has the camo pattern on the beret, although for the life of me I can’t ever remember seeing a camo beret in my life. I guess they figured this particular deco has never actually been done before and that yeah, we could swap the original beret if we wanted something more accurate to the figure/cartoon.
So the retro is technically RAH card accurate but you’ll need the beret from the classifieds to make it RAH toy accurate. And potentially the more accurate headsculpt from the eventual V2 Stalker to make it RAH super toy accurate.
Hasbro be messing with my OCD. Well played you glorious bastards.
I’m still convinced the V2 hood is flipped. I’ll see once in hand somewhere even it it’s removable.
Alpine is growing to be my favorite of the four figure wave. Shooting’s pics are helping quite a bit.
What body is the new gold helmet Steel Corps figure using? I can’t place it.
Oh. It’s Low Light’s legs and arms. Maybe a overlay on top of Low Light.
Thwipp!
I actually went ahead and pre ordered V.2(ish) Storm Shadow, Jinx, and Iron Grenadier after trying to talk myself out of them and waiting for Retro versions. But I hadn't held off buying anyone else yet if they weren't ARAH toy accurate, so why start now. Don't get me wrong, I hope they do make Retro Card versions of all 3 of those, but I also like the different takes of these characters offered in the non-retro line.
I figured, why not have both.
So pretty much my only collecting rule for this line will be, just buy characters that were part of the ARAH line.
So far, I've skipped the likes of Wolf Spider, the Mole Rat/Zombie, Shooter etc. since they weren't in the ARAH line.
But after the initial shock, V.2 Storm Shadow and Iron Grenadier have grown on me.
Storm Shadow looks alright to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He's the only one from the wave that I liked enough to pre-order. Though, I plan to cut the skirt off his belt. If that doesn't work out, I guess I'll keep my eye out for other alternatives
@supercamel-1982 I actually tend to like the updated takes on the vintage designs, myself. So, in case it's come off that way, let me be clear that I don't dislike SS solely because 'it's not an exact mirror of the vintage toy.' I just think the specific design elements they chose to update him are bad and ugly and bad. And also ugly.
And bad.
Like Bent intimated - why are we concerned with making SS more 'samurai' when the character has never been presented as 'samurai?' What does that even mean in the fictional fantasy world where Hollywood ninja are real things distinct from samurai? And all the stupid flaps. Oh my god.
I actually think Iron Grenadier looks quite good, but not as a generic army builder soldier. But I also always felt that way about CGs and I seem to be the only one so that's okay.
