I really hoped they would reveal the rumored midpoint vehicles, there’s so much they could do with that if it turns out to be true. The big centerpiece types are awesome but not everything can be a Haslab, nor do I want to wait years for them to get to the next one every time.
@panthercult Oh yes, it's definitely a clever new use of a very niche word and definitely not me fat-fingering my auto-correct. 😉
Also I will be getting a extra and add a Count Nefaria head to use as General Mayhem.
Hasbro should give you a commission for selling me not just a second Iron Grenadier but also a second Count Nefaria....
Everything revealed today looked cool, and it looked fun. That being said, it wasn't all to my personal tastes. I honestly think I will mainly just collect the Retro Card line since they are made to look like the old ARAH figures, which is what I love and want out of Classifieds most.
But then I will still get characters from the main line that look like or are very close to their Classic ARAH look just in case they would never get a Retro Card figure.
Like today, Dial Tone and Alpine are so close to their ARAH look. Then from the last Wave that went up for pre order the likes of Torch and Gnawgahyde were as well. So, I'll get them, and if they happen to get a Retro Card figure down the line, I'll get those too.
But Iron Grenadier and even the revealed SAW Viper and V.2 Storm Shadow. Or Jinx from the last Wave that went up for pre order. I feel they can make them way closer to the ARAH look in the Retro line. So, I'll wait for that.
All cool figures, but I definitely just need to rearrange how I collect to maximize getting more what I want out of these. Which are Classifieds that look like the 80's/90's ARAH toy line.
V2 Storm Shadow is what happens when someone so clueless about a culture's garment was given full authority to sign off on whatever they thought looked "cool".
A equivalent of that would be a figure wearing a football helmet, hockey goalie knee pads, a baseball glove and combat boots. "Ya, that's pretty American sportsman attire, ship it!"
@mikeysee Poor B-Mac. When he started on the TF live streams he was having a bit of trouble getting into a groove. Looks like the same thing today. Lenny looked like he forgot B-Mac was even there a lot of the time and had to remind himelf to include him. Emily is definitely missed. However I have come to like B-Mac when he does the live streams with Evan for TFs. So I'm sure if he is going to be continuing to do the live streams he'll eventually get into the groove.
I miss Emily. She and Lenny riffed so well and she's a jolt of energy every single time. I honestly can't stand BMac, nothing personal, but I just don't like him even on the TF teams. He seems so apathetic and gives up a comic book guy vibe.
So the “saw” on the SAW-Viper gun (which I think is cool and looks to be removable and able to be hand-held, a saw bayonet, if you will) triggered a memory and I went back and looked and lo! and behold the SAW-Viper weapon DOES have a saw on it on the original card art! It’s more a jigsaw than a chainsaw, but dang that’s a neat bit of attention to detail! SAW-Viper is one of those ARAH characters who looked way better in the card art and comic book than the actual figure, and this new one looks like the best of the Pursuit of Cobra version with even more nods to both card art and comic. And he even has his thigh-highs!
The colors for Stalker look great. Now I know why I didn't like the regular release. His head is too much Sam Jackson and not enough Wesley Snipes. That is more obvious on the retro release.
Storm Shadow is an odd conundrum.
Alpine's head is too low on his shoulders, and the rest just looks off to me. Not like the figure or the toon version. Backpack is obviously missing here. Bazooka is going to be sad his buddy is adjacent to his real friend.
Love most of what was revealed today.
My biggest issue is with the Retro Cobra Trooper. With the reuse of the armored shins and forearms, it's not accurate enough to RAH which I thought was the point of the Retro line. Still a nice figure just not Retro.
Alpine's face without the helmet & goggles looks too derpy, hat will stay on mine.
V2 Storm Shadow will look good... once I cut off the stupid battle skirt.
Chrome dome Retro Cobra Commander is perfect.
Iron Grenadier and the IG BAT look great. I thought about only getting one of each, now I think I'll army build them.
Dial-Tone and Stalker look great, Saw Viper is to much like the COD Juggernaut for my tastes.
Slaughter's Marauders look great, 2nd favorite subline so I need to order all of them.
Love the Stinger and I'm happy it'll be available everywhere. I still need a Vamp though, rerelease it already Hasbro!
lastly I like the teased Steel Corps V2 Gold Helmet (Night Force?) in the fight shot with the Iron Grenadier! Looks like it's on Low-Light's body. I hope that means the height issue is fixed!
Yeah I'm absolutely down for some Steel Corps on a better body with more articulation. It looks like they heard us.
So the “saw” on the SAW-Viper gun (which I think is cool and looks to be removable and able to be hand-held, a saw bayonet, if you will) triggered a memory and I went back and looked and lo! and behold the SAW-Viper weapon DOES have a saw on it on the original card art! The weapon they gave to the classified Saw Viper is based on the Knights Armament Chain Saw M249 concept gun that appeared about 15 years ago. Gimmicky but appropriate that they copied the Gridiron version with underslung chainsaw.
SAW Viper is a must.
Loved the livestream. The Iron Grenadier BATS look super cool. I preordered a couple.
Iron Grenadier itself looks cool, but more as an officer due to the coat. I love the original look. Had to preorder a couple.
Storm Shadow V2 was my first version of him. Looks very cool and like they went all out on him.
Preorder Alpine, too.
Everything looked cool. Especially chrome Cobra Commander!
Saw-Viper was really cool to see. I wasn't particularly fussed about any of the other reveals. Most of it was rock solid stuff, I think. Just nothing I want/need/care about.
The actual full reveal of Storm Shadow did very little to change my opinion of him. The main changes that are positive are the correctly-oriented hood, and that I was wrong about the direction of the wrist hinges. That. Being. Said:
It's still oh-so-Hasbro here. First of all, giving him the correct hands for his swordy-swording gives him incorrect hinges for arrowy-shootering. I'd much rather give him multiple sets of hands designed to best use his accessories than fists, if I'm being honest. Also.. this figure does not come with guns. And this is not a gun-wielding character. So why (I know the answer, and so do you) does he fucking have VERY pronounced trigger fingers? I'm SO tired of sword-wielding characters with fucking trigger fingers. Has anyone told Hasbro's Marvel, Star Wars, and Joe teams that you can just make the index finger separated in the mold, but not make it a PRONOUNCED trigger finger so that it can actually work as a trigger finger without looking absolutely goddamn stupid holding literally anything else?
Also, I still absolutely hate the crotch-flaps. That design decision is prominent in fantasy designs and has been for many years. Artists tend to view the crotch area as 'too plain' or whatever and feel the need to always design characters with random flaps hanging all over. It looks stupid AND in figure form impedes articulation (or forces the belt up when using the articulation - whichever). AND the shoulder 'archery' thing is still ugly as shit. AND AND the scabbards on his hip is still dumb. I'd love that (on the left side) for someone like Budo or even maybe a different version of Storm Shadow. But the urban warfare/climby version of SS? Makes no sense.
The whole figure just reeks of someone taking a good design and trying so hard to make it something 'new' that they fuck up most of the stuff that was good about the original. Such a massive, massive disappointment. Especially when it's not expected. If Super7 fucks something up so hard that my descendants for three generations will still be mad about it -- it's upsetting but not -disappointing-, really. Because you expect it. But the Classified team has been doing so well lately that I just really expected this figure to be perfect when they got around to it. And it's a mess instead.
And they still haven't fucking re-done a PROPER Ninja Force Storm Shadow for me, and I'm going to be salty about that until the day I die.
@vicious7171 It sucks we don't get a full file card. The text on the box is what got me into GI Joe as a kid during the early 2000's when there wasn't any media for the franchise.
