This was my thinking as well. I have a Big Ben on preorder with a couple of Range Vipers. I don't have much of a connection to Big Ben but figured I'd order him with the RVs. Big Ben on his own isn't that tempting though.

This is the first argument I've heard for Python Patrol which almost makes them tempting. I've always avoided them, but I like your rationale for their existence.
The gaudy yellow they use for Python Patrol sometimes really works. Other times, it's so effing ugly.
I will probably get that Copperhead whenever he goes on sale. That was my Copperhead growing up and he's the only one in that color scheme that I can tolerate.
The normal release is gorgeous in person but I'm in the same boat where the PP Copperhead hits the nostalgia buttons harder than the standard release.
Just received Snow Job, he's fantastic. Joe of the year? Perhaps! Love to see the head sculpt and paint return to highest-quality, he really looks like a well-done custom head, not a Hasbro product. All the junk that fits on his pack is icing on the cake. It might not be a thing, but I'd love to see a Night Force Snow Job, or really anything that allows us a repaint of this fantastic figure.
Yeah, as someone who got into joes in 86 this is my copperhead, televiper and the ongoing confusion with the trooper/officer just adds another level to the nostalgia.
So if Copperhead is a clone did the original die? Is he good with having a clone of himself?
Python Patrol allows for so much variety of head cannons.

Am I seeing what I want to see? But is that a Devil Fish in the pictures of the flight pods in the water? It could be just a blurred out shot of the Hydrofoils they used in the original Cobra Island artwork. Most likely.
But seeing that made me think of another TG repaint, Beachhead. He could come with different weapons.

I can't get the "Operation Dragonfire" cartoon out of my head for PP. So by no means do I see them as an elite unit for Serpentor since he was mutated by Cobra Commander using the same tech for PP.
However I love me some PP colours, and while gaudy to the extreme I have been happily getting them all so far. I just wish the Super7 ReAction figures weren't so expensive, otherwise I would be picking them up as well.
Snow Serpent's shoulders have some drop down movement for a little more clearance below the fur collar. It was probably covered in every video, but since I didn't watch any, it was a nice surprise.
Just got a update from FedEx. Snowjob is out for delivery two days early. He will close a nice GI Joe week with Trubble Bubble, Tunnel Rat, Snow Serpent, and the carded Snake-Eyes.
Love Python Patrol! These were my first versions of these troopers back in the days. Happy to order PP Copperhead, PP Officer, and Tele-Viper!
