So Dave Filoni has been named "chief creative officer" for Star Wars by Lucasfilm/Disney.

Sounds like he will help lead the overall direction and be involved with projects from the start.

On the one hand, I find some of his Star Wars ideas questionable, but on the other hand, he has been involved with the most watchable things produced after the PT, so there is that.

But I will be curious what he can do when he breaks out of the Clone Wars/Rebels/Ahsoka lore. (I assume Mando is part him, part Favreau).

I agree his stuff has been the most watchable... well, among the most watchable. The Rogue One and Andor stuff is very different from most star wars but I still enjoyed it.

I imagine breaking the plots of the seasons for Mandalorian is probably both of them together, but the scripts for Mandalorian were mostly Favreau, and BOBF was entirely Favreau except one episode Filoni wrote with him.

I dunno, I'm open to it. I'll always try every star wars. And I do feel he tries to pay attention to things Lucas was doing and continuing the themes etc. So maybe he'll turn out more great stuff.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is apparently the next movie, directed by Favreau. I'm not sure what that means for season 4, but seems like it's in lieu of it. I also don't think this is the same project as Filoni's live action star wars movie, and will be coming before the new Rey movie.

Also they announced Ahsoka season 2 is in development.

New Bad Batch trailer!!!!

Man I love the animated stories! I hope they continue. These things just get better and better. I know the Bad Batch tales will end. Looks like it’s going to get down to those guys saving Omega and the Clones and probably at the cost of their lives.

I want Omega to live on. I would love a grown up Omega meeting Boba in live action. I want her stories to continue in Mandoverse.

Man I’m pumped for 2/21!

Thwipp!

Ewan McGregor did an interview with Variety that is worth reading anyway, especially if you're a fan of Danny Boyle, but on the Star Wars front he said:

“I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.”

And as far as returning to Obi-Wan in the future:

“I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney.”

The Mandalorian And Grogu starts filming in June.

Whatever fake title they film under is undoubtedly better than the real one.

I know a lot of folks were down on the Obi-Wan series but I loved it - Vader was menacing, young Leia was a surprise plot, and Ewan was great in it I thought. I disliked the ending involving Luke, but was pretty happy with the rest of it. Anyway, I hope they do one more Obi-Wan series, maybe dealing with Jabba somehow.

I think I'm the same way about it. I definitely liked it WAY more than most people seemed to. There are some goofy bits I'd take out if they did a new edit, like the kidnapping sequence. But some of the scenes with Ben and Leia were just fantastic. And Vader's bits, especially the last episode, just amazing. But I agree the Luke stuff wasn't great. Yeah I'd take another season for sure. Jabba would be VERY interesting, and also Tuskens. I know we've gotten a lot of Tuskens on Mando and Book but I'd like some Empire era Tuskens, especially if it can get A'sharad Hett into canon and love action. To me, that should be season two.

The next Star Wars movie is apparently scheduled for 5/22/26, and may be Mandalorian & Grogu.

Another is scheduled for 12/18/26, and a third on 12/17/27. I am guessing the 12/26 one is the new Rey movie and maybe the third one is a sequel?

Had Vader killed Reva and the entire finale of her going after Luke was dropped (as originally planned), then the series would have been viewed much more favorably. Instead, we have another case of Disney shoehorning in a character and plot, for reasons, that don't really fit with established lore or expectations.

I don't hate Reva but having her die when she finally took her shot at Vader would probably have been a better idea, and skipping out on Owen and Beru defending Luke... I dunno. I get why they did that, to cement Kenobi as his protector in their minds and be okay with him after all, but it was definitely very clumsily done. What ever it was that got Owen to simmer down about Ben probably could have been a season 2.

Ewan McGregor is great, and the actor who played little Leia was an absolute gem, but boy was that show not good.  I'm rarely interested in attempts to fill in gaps that don't need filling in, but this show went above and beyond by padding it out, upsetting canon, and making it look really cheap in the process.

I think I'd heard it was initially supposed to be a movie, and I think it would've benefited from the better budget and shortened run time.

Originally, yes, it was to be a movie. Actually a trilogy apparently, but I mentioned in the Marvel thread how funny it is that so many Disney shows probably would have worked better as movies and vice versa.

I agree on McGregor and li'l Leia. That was the heart of the show and where the focus should have been. Also, his experience with Luke in ANH is different from this one with Leia as far as Vader is concerned because at the time we (and Lucas) didn't know Vader was his charge's father. This time, with Leia, we are completely aware. And that's kinda a shadow that falls over his scenes with Leia. I love the moment with Vader telling him he killed Anakin Skywalker, but my favorite bits in the show are Ben talking to Leia about her parents. There is so much heartbreak infused in all of those scenes.

Reva's flashback at the temple isn't something I'd want to lose, but even while watching the show I was utterly confused about why the other Inquisitors had so much contempt for her when she seemed to be pulling all her moves straight from Vader's playbook. AND she got results! She wasn't even supposed to be the only Inquisitor who was a former Jedi so what's up with that?

I don't understand why the writers played Reva being a former Padawan as if that was supposed to be some great  "WWHHHAAAAATTTTTTT??!?!?!" reveal. Rather than go that route, they should have really leaned into Reva's journey from being a Padawan to an Inquisitor. If we had seen all of the manipulation and torture needed to turn a Jedi Padawan, that would have been a really powerful way to show how evil and corrupted both the Emperor and Vader were. That would have gotten the audience to actually care about Reva as a somewhat sympathetic villain AND given a greater sense as to her motivations towards Vader.
