Sounds a lot like Luke Skywalker and Just Rey.

Trailer looks fun! Nothing wrong with a little fun. Was Brutus in the trailer? Curious if there are more figures in the case - looks like it's supposed to be eight? That droid looks prominent.

Meant to order two Jude Law figures but ended up accidentally pre-ordering two of one of the kids. Ah well. I want my Yon-Rogg to finally have a face!

I mean... why wouldn't there be some form or iteration of "suburbia" in an intergalactic federation or empire?

It isn't that there shouldn't be the equivalent of middle-class life and communities in Star Wars, I just found the images of it to be too similar to European/American suburbia to seem like a galaxy far, far away. Green lawns, concrete sidewalks, paved roadways. At least on first look it didn't have enough of the "similar but still different" vibe we usually get. It might seem better when I see more of it on screen.

But for me I never found films like The Goonies where the kids were on an adventure all that engaging even when I was a kid myself. So, suburban 8th graders go on a Star Wars adventure is not something that interests me at all. Personal preference I know.

Simon Kinberg is writing and producing a new trilogy that will start a new saga that isn't continuing the Skywalker saga told in 1-9. New characters, plot, etc.

We'll see.   I feel like this is at least the third time they've announced someone would be attached to a new direction in the movie space and the plans always get scuttled.   Maybe it actually happens this time, but I'm not counting any chickens just yet.

I don't get the need to announce these as trilogies all the time. Tell a complete story in the first film, then see where it goes.

I keep applying my cynicism inappropriately. I was more intrigued by the announcement, and ready for a trilogy that is planned out from the start.

Fair, I hope it is planned from the start, and they have at least 6+ hours of story to tell, distinct plots/arcs per film that deserve a whole film, as well as a compelling overarching plot.

(Note that I think the OT is really a trilogy in name only, it is more of a standalone first film and then a two-parter in terms of story - you could have stopped after a New Hope, you couldn't have stopped after Empire).

@fac i totally agree with you. I feel like ANH would have been pretty different had Lucas known he would definitely get to make at least three movies.

But hadn't we heard that Benioff and Weiss were going to be doing a new Star Wars trilogy and then they were sent packing?

And Rian Johnson was supposed to get his own Star Wars Trilogy that went nowhere but the deep freeze.

And in fact there was going to be an Obi-Wan trilogy of movies - Stephen Daldry was hired to develop scripts -  but those plans got canned once Solo flopped.

All of those were conceived of as Trilogies and planned to be that from the start,  though they never got started.

And I'm pretty sure that while Patty Jenkins Rogue Squadron was only announced as a single film they had designs on more -  there as well.

All of that in the trash can  (though apparently a few pieces of the Obi-Wan concept made it into the Disney+ show)

This is why I refuse to get excited or optimistic about any of this until there's actual film in the can - well digital film in the virtual can, nowadays.

@panthercult and I do get that. I told my one real world nerd friend my attitude is more like Red when he goes for his final parole review in Shawshank Redemption, but if it's good I'll be as happy as he was on his way to the Mexican border.

I've heard that early (early) plans were to have the death star be the big finale of the trilogy, but I'm unclear what the original ending idea was for A New Hope.

As an old curmudgeon, I'm a little frustrated that they double-dipped on that ending for 2/3 of the movies, even if Young Fletch at the time didn't think so.

@fletch Right, I've heard that too. And Wookiees were to be the primitive group that overcame the Empire, but since he thought he was only getting one movie done, Lucas threw one in as the copilot of the 'pirate ship', etc etc. By the time he got to do his idea of a primitive culture defeating a technologically advanced military, Wookiees were clearly pretty tech savvy so the Ewoks happened.

But yeah, like you, I never heard what the original idea was for the end of the first part. And also like you, I think the bigger Death Star, again, is a bit of a shame. Not as big a shame as having to resort to Luke's lost sister being the only female we know since Lucas wanted to wrap this saga up as quickly as he could and lick his divorce wounds (not that I really blame him, as a person... just as a fan, heh).

I dunno, it's stuff like this that does get me excited for a new trilogy, planned as a trilogy. They had a chance with Episode 7, and.... I still don't get what anyone involved with that was thinking. You KNEW you were doing three. You KNEW.

I wonder what I'd even want another trilogy to be about. Like, I know what my fanfic is about, but in terms of an actual movie trilogy unrelated to the Skywalkers, I wonder what would interest me.

The High Republic of Acolyte didn't dazzle me, but maybe something way waaay back.  Showing proto-Jedi forming a council that coincided with the birth of the Galactic Republic. Something recognizable, but at such early stages that it's all-around different than what we've been seeing.

There's probably some novels or comics about that, but I'm not very versed in the books.

My go to is always the TOR trailers. Bunch of red sabers charging into the temple? Full on Sith war? Remember how nuts people went about Darth Maul? How does it take 25+ years to have a movie with a hundred of him? I'd definitely watch a movie about the beginning of the order, but golden age of the Sith would be my first thought.

I was sure they were working on an Old Republic era story.

I would really love a movie taking place during the Old Republic era.
