Naturally, after praising the Star Wars properties as at least always looking like Star Wars in terms of design, they throw "housing development" Star Wars at me to test that theory. We'll see - but my initial reaction is that it is too close to our world.
(Honestly my initial thought was maybe this was going to turn out to be some kid on Earth dreaming about being in Star Wars in the last scene.)
To be fair, I was never a fan of "kids going on an adventure" type film even when I was a kid, so I have no nostalgia for things like The Goonies or even ET, and therefore this isn't a mashup that appeals to me.
@ru1977 So I have lost track, is there a Season 4 of Mando coming or do we think this film closes these characters out (to the extent anything gets closed out)? I looked around online and I can't tell if the film is in effect replacing some of S4, or of S4 may happen still before it? Help me RU1977, you are my only hope (for clarity on this).
It seems clear they are looking to connect Mando with Imperial Remnants/Thrawn and Mandalore and Ahsoka in some big plot leading into the ST - or at least setting up aspects of it. I assume that the canceled Rangers of the New Republic was connected as well, and my suspicion is that they had the whole thing plotted out but changes have led to repurposing scenes and stories here and there, like how they may have panicked a bit that Pedro was walking away from Mando after S2.
So we get a hypothetical closure to Mando/Grogu during BoBF in case Mando S3 never happens, the Imperial folks on Coruscant side episode as part of Mando S3 which seems like it could have been a Rangers of the New republic subplot, and maybe Moff Gideon's escape could have been a part of the Rangers series as well, etc. The question is whether the movie was part of the plan and is it pulling stuff meant to have been part of the show or other shows...
Honestly I thought after Mandalorian season two they were going to do a film as that season closed the arch started from season one. But Grogu is too darn cute and marketable so he had to be back. I think all plans are ever evolving. They want films. They can make really good money. Mando and Grogu are the type of characters to bring in movie watchers. This probably led them to pursue a movie. I don’t know what the main gist of Rangers of the New Republic or whatever it was going to be called. Maybe elements of that story will be in this film. I really hope for a story that doesn’t rely on hey we’re gonna get you geared up for Galaxy vs Thrawn and his zombie horde. Just tell an interesting story in which Mando and Grogu grow from it or survive to adventure again whether that be in our imagination or continuing stories.
Thwipp!
@fac I am sorry to let you down but i have no definitive answer. Favreau said, and others corroborated, the scripts for season four were written a year and a half ago. There was noise that the movie replaced it, but also that the movie would essentially be the finale for season 4.
But yes, they definitely were working to have all the shows in that era link up and there was a planned movie to bring all the threads together, but I don't think that's what M&G is. Even Skeleton Crew is part of that (if nothing else, the Nikto pirate guy from Mandalorian season 3 is a villain on that show). But honestly, I'm way more in the dark about upcoming star wars than I am about marvel anymore.
It just seems odd that after announcing this film's release date they haven't cleared up the status of S4. Hope the film will be more of a stand-alone adventure.
I assume there is still a plan for the capstone film which presumably is going to be about Thrawn and the Nightsisters and so on.
@fac definitely odd but they seem to go by the seat of the pants, at least with BOBF and Mando 3.
I wonder if film since it has Zeb and Imperials is a rescue. Zeb getting Mando to help save Kallus. They stumble on plot to destroy a New Republic home world.
Something along those line.
Thwipp!
I saw the Mando + Baby Yoda trailer. It felt kind of comforting to see Mando standing in a doorway shooting fools.
But I think what I'm most excited for is the return of-

@ru1977 Sigh. Makes the fact the first season concluded with (and at times seemed like) an extended setup for the next season(s) more frustrating. They tease the bigger scope of Yoda, Plagueis, possible origins of the Knights of Ren, how the Sith returned, etc., and leave the actual lead(s) of the show (Osha and Mae) in weird spots. I mean, while they "concluded" the mystery of what happened at the coven, that story was ultimately inconsequential if we never revisit this time period again.
So I will be disappointed if we don't see Qmir again, a good character. Maybe (but I doubt it) they will do a BoBF style 3 episodes wrap up and focus more on Qmir than Osha...
A flawed show that had some good moments and might have gone somewhere interesting if given a chance...
Agreed on all that.
Maybe they'll do a comic series or something, but ugh. I assume Disney will stick to Skywalkers and Mandalorians for a while now.
I am Ahsoka, Ahsoka Skywalker Tano.
Maybe just let those stories cook a bit more. New stories in a familiar arena are tough sells. You have to throw a lot of stories out there for one to click. The story was told and exists if people enjoyed it want to watch again. We all likes what we likes.
Disney isn’t dumb for investing in Mandalorian and Grogu. Those characters attract more than fans of Star Wars.

For folks that enjoyed it, I'm sorry. I know how hard it is to find a well-written story with characters that are interesting. For me, it didn't have either of those things so hopefully it leads to something better because I've seen worse and it's not that different.
I came to post this, too. I'm so happy! I hope they can make it someone's fever dream or just say it's not canon. Hell, it's not for me.
I said before but I won't fault anyone who simply didn't connect with the show or enjoy it. Of course comments sections stuffed with victory laps for proof that wokeness is wrong or whatever is tedious as usual, but I know people didn't like it for legit reasons. And that's fine. I didn't think it was fantastic but it was entertaining and tried something new in a few levels, which is about what I can say for the PT.
Just a bummer because when these things happen, I'm always worried the studio is going to learn the wrong lesson from it. Or who knows, maybe I'm entirely wrong and star wars should only ever be in the one era.
