I always felt Anakin was created because The Force willed it.
Two reasons I don't like that theory - one, it means the Force has its own intelligence to make decisions - that makes the Force more like a deity with its own prerogative than an energy field that some people are able to access to make deeper connections to the universe around them; two, it also means the Force itself was fine with Anakin presumably going "dark" and helping cause the death of millions as long as in the end it balance - because if I believe that the Force was making a choice to bring balance somehow, it did so in a way that caused a lot of pain as compared to, I don't know, simply having Palpy have a heart attack.
I get that but maybe it's like a fire burning away the dead trees. Destroying before creating. Balance wasn't simply doing away with the dark side but bringing the light more focused as well since the Jedi were so out of whack by then.
But I would say that Nature, even without a literal consciousness that we can determine, has something of a will and can often be destructive as well.
...it would not surprise me at all if his philosophy on the dark side is just that using one's emotions (such as anger) is just another path towards wielding the Force and not necessarily a negative one. The dark side could be confirmed to be a corrupting, cancerous, power that destroys everyone with enough time if that is what is decided.
I view the dark side as it has been portrayed as substance abuse. You start down that road, some can maybe handle it, some it consumes completely, but it rarely makes you a better person or brings out the best in someone, and certainly isn't something that most people can cope with forever without it spiraling at some point.
As it has been portrayed, I completely agree with the substance abuse allegory. Very clearly.
But I also wonder if there can be an aspect that would be comparable to psychedelics and consciousness expansion. Substances that don't rot you away from the inside. Learning to use your emotions to channel the force without being a galactic dick.
And it would be REALLY interesting if that concept was explored not only in Acolyte season two but also Ahsoka season two with Baylan.
I mean the direct comparison to the Dark side is in Tolkien and the one ring. Gandalf and Galadriel (maybe even Glorfindel, Aragorn and Elrond) could have taken the ring and confronted Sauron and beaten him, but they would certainly lose themselves in the process. "Instead of a Dark Lord you shall set up a Queen" and all that. Their intentions are good but the means to do it would corrupt them. In the books at least one of the main reasons Sauron doesn't see the Hobbits coming is he assumes there is just no way one of these greater entities wouldn't try that. In his world view people always aspire to power so he is caught unawares. That is the true heroism of their path. Not chopping trolls real good. I see the Darkside potentially acting in a similar fashion. Certainly it did for Anakin.
@derrabbi I agree, but I also felt Anakin was always a POS.
@ru1977 Seems like most the young Jedi wannabes are pretentious little shits. Hating sand and what not. I mean Sauruman goes corrupt just from his want of the ring; not even proximity to it. It plays on our desires and fears. Galadriel always wanted to rule, Saruman wanted to create, Gandalf to protect, etc.
Then Torbin is all about high rises and climate control.
But yeah, all good points about the corruptive influence of oul Isildur's bane.
@panthercult true. If it wasn't the dark side, he would have gotten into spice or death sticks for sure.
You guys are all anti-Jedites, raving anti-Jedites...
@fac Oh, I absolutely am. Dark side all the way! They have better costumes, better parties, more of the, you know... the shush. The bad.
The only good Jedi is... well it's Obi-Wan, but otherwise the only good Jedi is a Dead-aye.
I binged this one over the last two days and really, really wish I had watched it before ordering all the figures. It bugs the shit out of me that a lot of the other people that hated this are of a.... "type", that I mountainously disagree with.
I think I'm going to rewatch Andor to cleanse the palate.
@red_ogre I get that... if it helps, I don't think all of them are that way. But maybe you can pretend to like it just to be contrary!
Is the poor reception going to prevent us getting a TVC Qimir?
I don't see why. Even some who hated the show enjoyed him.
Fans were more positive for Ahsoka yet still no TVC Baylan or Shin announcement.
