There are a lot of things in star wars that aren't possible, even aside from lightsabers and Force abilities.
All this amounts to is a defense of bad writing because it's 'just a kid's/scifi/fantasy/fiction show', which gets real tiring to see.

No, I think he's just pointing out the required suspension of disbelief. It's nothing to do with dismissing a genre, it's about recognizing but accepting that every planet has 1g gravity and breathable air.
*Of course* in reality every planet has its own length of day and year, but here they just kind of don't because that allows people to say "14 years old" and "yesterday" and have it be universally understood.
Exactly. And this 'bad writing' has been consistent since 1977 because star wars isn't science fiction where there is no sound in space, or fire. Spaceships can maneuver like airplanes, and all planets have the same cycle etc. it's fantasy. Things like that have ALWAYS been part of star wars.
Of course everyone can like or dislike the show, we all have our things that throw us out of something we're watching, but The Acolyte isn't the first time this has happened.
I recently saw an observation,
"Nobody hates Star Wars more than the fans of Star Wars".
Star Wars fans just want more Star Wars. Disney hasn't been delivering.
Nobody hates Star Wars more than the "fans" of modern Star Wars, written by bad writers who haven't seen the previous movies or just don't care in general.
If you have to look for problems in the old movies to defend the new ones, or say something like "they were all bad, guys!" maybe we have a problem. Expect better.
I don't think they're bad writers, and clearly a lot of them were fans of previous movies. Now they're taking things in a direction some fans wouldn't have. That's just... the nature of it. I don't think pointing out the old movies didn't follow logic or actual science is a problem though, but it's something that has always been consistent.
Again, hate The Acolyte and any other Disney thing all you want, but feeling it's trash because all planets follow the same cycle etc just seems disingenuous to me. I don't think any Star War is all bad though. Even Rise of Skywalker had a few elements I appreciated. I felt they weren't explored for all they should have been, or really utilized in a way I would have, but obviously that's all subjective.
All Star Wars, for me, could be improved, but a lot of it, even Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, etc, have things I enjoyed. That's really all I expect from it. Expecting more than that may be the problem.
I don't think they're bad writers, and clearly a lot of them were fans of previous movies.
A lot of them have said many times in interviews that they haven't seen the previous movies. They don't like the prequels (JJ), or "your SW theories suck". They are simple tourists who took this job for personal gain, nothing more.
The question is why? No one is stopping you from telling a good story in this universe. You just have to know how to do it. They can't.
Now they're taking things in a direction some fans wouldn't have.
I don't hate it. Like at all. I thinks it's really bad, but I just kinda don't care anymore. And I think a lot of the fans are now too.
Again, hate The Acolyte and any other Disney thing all you want.
I think consistency and worldbuilding is very important in projects like this. Otherwise, you can make up anything and nothing will matter.
But feeling it's trash because all planets follow the same cycle etc just seems disingenuous to me.

That may be the problem. That some people just...don't care and like absolutely everything. And even if they're able to criticize something, they'll come back to watch it. There are fewer and fewer people like this, though.
So, perhaps, it's time to just...letting go.
I dunno. It's all subjective, and we're both doing too many generalizations. "A lot of them", etc.
This is bad, they're bad writers, etc etc. eh. I enjoyed some things, won't rewatch others, whatever. If I'm the only person who connects with a show or a film, I guess that's too bad, but won't take away what I got out of it.
When Disney hires people that don't know the IP/franchise, don't care about it and just want to force their own agenda on something, that isn't subjective. It is bad.
There are videos all over of kathleen kennedy sitting around with strong female protagonist #1 doing interviews saying things like "we're going to make this the gayest star wars ever!", and cackling like idiots.
That isn't a different take on things. Or different story telling. That is just straight up trash.
The Boys is an amazing show. Look at that cast! The stories they're telling! The character development.
That entire cast is represented by every race, disability, sex, ideology etc, yet no one complains?
Why? It is done well and fits with the stories they're telling. It isn't just there because.
I haven't seen every Kennedy interview but did see the one with Headland and Stenberg talking about Acolyte being the gayest star wars (which doesn't take much really). Is that what you meant? What I saw was very tongue in cheek but clearly easy to point to for any agenda.
I guess I cut a lot of slack with people "forcing their own agenda" in art since art is really supposed to be a mirror anyway, usually of the artist's perspective on society or what have you. So I'm not surprised when a gay person has gay stuff they wanna talk about, even in a galaxy far far away.
I don't watch the Boys but my understanding is people are finally understanding the agenda those writers are pushing too. Your opinion that Acolyte is trash is still subjective though. And I don't feel like devoting the time to confirm what you said about every creative person Disney has had work on their star wars not caring or knowing about the franchise. Maybe some didn't, I know some did.
It's cool, I have bad taste and I'm probably not a real fan.
Leslye Headland seems to be a big Star Wars fan and has been very vocal about getting to bring in EU canon that got dropped from the lore.
I also agree with her that it's good to have people involved in making the show who are not SW fans. It keeps it from becoming too insular and just making copies of copies.
So best of both worlds: a show runner with an eye toward fitting it into the established universe, but with writers who bring in new perspectives to keep it fresh.
Man i wish there was just one place to discuss Star Wars content that wasn't just an endless rehash of butt hurt man babies ranting about how current Star Wars stories aren't as good as the Star Wars stories they grew up with. i really thought the Fwoosh might give me a better chance of that, but sadly no.
My one disappointment from episode 3 of the Acolyte was not getting to see more of Kelnacca - was really hoping to get a little more about him - but I suppose i'll have to wait.
I am interested to see if we get a bit of Rashomon style storytelling to see these events from Mae's perspective as it seems unlikely she is the true architect of destruction of her coven.
I am guessing Koril is probably responsible, but i am interested.
@panthercult I thought the same about Fwoosh. And also was disappointed about Kelnacca actually. Reminded me of (spoiler for a ten year old show) of True Detective when they get their big lead at the end of one episode, then two episodes later is when they get to him. Not awful, I know Kelly is coming.
And if they don't do the Rashomon thing, I'll be genuinely shocked. Too many holes in the narrative to not fill in with another perspective.
@fletch agreed, and copying what's been done has certainly been a complaint. New concepts in a new era is a huge selling point of the show to me.
