I'm having a lot of fun with Agatha so far. I love camp.

A few other things...

Spoiler
Spoiler for now

Aubrey Plaza's character refers to herself as having a black heart. Too on the nose to think she really is Blackheart, child of Mephisto? (I know, bringing out the Mephisto again, after the WandaVision speculation...) Maybe Agatha hates her because of whatever happened to Nicholas (as implied by the bedroom he is, at best, out of her life but more likely believed dead....).

Nicholas Scratch also has connections to Mephisto and the Salem Seven - he is their father in the comics, correct? (I also assume the animals we saw that unnerved Agatha - rat, crow, coyote - were members of the seven in animal form.)

I felt like there was a very noticeable car following them during Agatha's recruitment trip that wasn't paid off yet, although we only seemed to see it in the rear-view mirror...

Wish we had a better sense if the townspeople knew that Agatha was "imprisoned" by Wanda, but believed she was on their side (she was fighting her of course and Wanda was the bad guy to them), or did they understand she was also a witch who was exploiting things? So, were they looking after her because Wanda told them to and felt they needed to, or they viewed her as an ally, or were scared otherwise?

@ru1977 Interesting, good to see this in good quality (as compared to the phone-recorded versions from D23), and I thought it was a bit different as well. I am a bit more intrigued now...

Spoiler
Possible spoiler observation from the trailer

Hard to tell, but I question how long Taskmaster makes it, or if she is a wild card, as she doesn't appear to be in the car when Bucky flips it, and although she is in one shot with the team at Valentina's place, she is not in frame when the elevator opens or the back shot of them walking in - so thinking she might have been added to that one shot, which I assume comes nearer the end (or second half) since Bucky is with them. But guessing she is out of the picture/off the team by then.

Waiting for your thoughts on Agatha...

@fac it does have a few new shots. All the stuff with Bucky on the bike and such I believe was new.

Spoiler
Trailer stuff

You may be right about Taskmaster but trailers trick me too much to really speculate seriously on plot points anymore.

I can't wait to share thoughts on Agatha but I haven't read any of the stuff you guys are posting yet because I AM waiting to just binge it. Echo spoiler me, heh.

@ru1977 Isn't it like 9 episodes? That's a lot to binge, and I like getting things a week at a time to be honest...

I think they are looking to end around Halloween so doubling up at the end as well as the start, but otherwise will see you in 6 weeks or so...

heh heh, since responding to you, I've started to come around to giving in and watching a few here and there. And when I say 'binge', I meant watching two or three a night for as long as that lasts. I really love doing that anymore, especially with old favorites I've seen already. but there are a few shows on Hulu I'll wait a month on just to be able to zip through at my own speed. I know many will disagree, but for me the worst thing about the Acolyte was waiting a week for each one. It's archaic!

but eh.. maybe I'll watch a couple every two weeks.

I understand the theory behind continuing to release shows one episode at a time, but I honestly fucking hate it and actively try to not engage with material that way anymore. I'll wait until a good chunk of the show is out, especially because I just don't care very much about Agatha so I'm not super excited to watch it that I can't wait. I like the idea of being able to watch a few episodes at a time over the weekend when I actually have -time- for these shows, rather than watching like.. one episode every weekend and STILL being behind everyone else anyway. Why bother.

Thunderbolts trailer looks interesting, but I'm also at the point of not really giving a shit about trailers because these days it's too easy to CGI in or out certain elements to keep the surprises. So you can hardly even judge what's going to happen in the movie by what's in the trailer. Looking forward to the film, though.

@theknightdamien Right, so I look at trailers more as an indication of what to expect (tone and concept). I  appreciate that more than, say, showing Hulk saving Iron Man from falling to his death at the end of the battle in 2012's Avengers.

@ru1977 Exactly. A trailer, especially from Marvel, is more like a vibe check than anything else.

I think it depends on the show - She Hulk could have easily been released in a batch as there wasn't much mystery/suspense to that show - same with What If...? or Echo or even going back to Hawkeye or Ms Marvel which were fairly straightforward narratives.

But I think other shows that are trying to build around mystery or less straightforward narratives need the time to breathe between episodes, like WandaVision and maybe (so far) Agatha and (if it had been executed better) Secret Invasion.

What I don't like about the all-at-once release is that sites will be blithering about the ending 24 hrs after it becomes available - I am not a huge spoilers avoider, but it's one thing to be spoiled on some plot point in Ep 3 than when you are one episode behind than having the conclusion spoiled when you still have 5 episodes to get there.

Having said that, the schedule works best when everyone watches at the same time (aka network TV) like back in the "water cooler" days of TV discussion at work when hit shows had 25% of America watching weekly...

It is an undeniable fact that a weekly release schedule creates much more buzz, conversation and publicitiy than a series dump.    I understand why you guys don't like it -  but it's been shown that the engagement levels for things stay high for popular shows on a weekly release for the entire run of the show.    With shows that dump all the epidodes at once there is a spike of discussion and then a quick dissipation.

It's why even shows like Stranger Things -  while they didn't move to a full weekly release schedule have moved to "split season" release schedules,  releasing smaller batches of the show at a time to  prolong dicussion and engagement.

As negative as a lot of the discussion ended up being about the Acolyte it was undeniably talked about weekly for it's entire release schedule.

Also - with a weekly release schedule you end up getting more re-watch viewership for the people who watch weekly and then go back and watch the whole thing straight through (guilty, right here).   I've done that with a number of the Marvel shows that dropped weekly and certainly did with Acolyte.     Whereas if I just binged the entire season I'm not going back and binging it again right away.
