@fac I'm kinda close, but Star Wars and Spider-Man were my first comics. I have no idea why my mom got me Spider-Man comics, it may have been due to my older cousin. I ended up with a lot of his cast-offs with comics and action figures, not that I'm complaining. But I did get into Micronauts, though I started with the New Voyages. Secret Wars was what got me to branch out beyond Spider-Man. Not just the comic but the Wolverine figure got me to buy the first X-Men issue I saw on a rotating comic thingie at a gas station. Probably #193, looking back.
And yeah, Tony and Steve never interested me in the comics either but the movies turned me completely around. But for me, Thor was on that list as well and I'm hoping the FF is next I'll say it about. And I get what you're saying about The Thing. I obviously can't speak of it intelligently since I never read them but what you say makes total sense.
@adrienveidt Some solid ideas but I would leave Franklin out of it for now. His birth itself could be a significant character plot point and be something the MCU hasn't done yet. If I were to venture a guess Kang Dynasty and then Secret Wars will lead to some conclusion where to stop the Incursions that multiple realities will be fused into one at the end. It will be a situation where they are a unified reality that both were and were not always the same. In this new reality you can have a FF, the X-Men, etc in the same reality as the MCU. Both always having been there to those who experience it and not. Perhaps the Nexus type beings would be able to see thru this "veil" but not the others. You could even open yourself up to a recasting of the Avengers big 3 this way.
I hesitate to want to see the Negative Zone as much as I love it. I think its time for the MCU to take a break from another "hidden realm" storyline. I think exhaustion from that story telling is leading into the MCU hangover. Dark Dimension, Mirror Dimension, the Quantum realm, the Ancestral plain, Ta Lo (sp?) whatever the dimension was in Ms Marvel, etc. Those things lead to exhaustion and sound sort of samey. They should be reserved for the wild big idea properties like FF and Dr Strange. In particular they do a disservice to Shang Chi and Ms Marvel which should have been allowed to stay a little smaller and those elements of the existing show are their weakest points. In particular Ms Marvel should have been allowed to remain the "friendly neighborhood superhero" in her own show as she was for a good bit in the comics. That would have left her freakout at being involved in the bigger superhero off planet narrative in The Marvels more power. Why is she so freaked out about being on a space ship if she's travelled thru time and been to another dimension already.
That's a great point about having a birth in the MCU as a new thing.
It could be that movie's version of the party in Age of Ultron, where all the heroes are gathered for an event as they get to play at being 'regular folk'.
I finally watched The Marvels last night. I wasn't in a rush to watch it and it's very possible I might have put it off until the urge to watch no longer existed if the Khans hadn't been in it, but I really enjoyed Ms. Marvel so I gave it a shot.
I thought it was a fun, breezy movie. It wasn't "important" or whatever and won't be winning any awards for originality or even rewatchability, but it was entertaining.
I think the most interesting thing is watching Kamala inside of a larger and more well-known cast. There are actors who bring such a joy and vitality to the screen that they make everybody else look like they're an old sack of flour sitting in the corner by comparison. Whether or not she's a good actor or just playing a heightened version of herself is almost beside the point.
I feel like Franklin should be born between films, otherwise do you leave Sue on the sidelines for a film? Because having a 9-month pregnant woman doing any super-hero stuff seems like a problem, as would brand-new mother Sue leaving newborn Franklin behind to be a hero, and I hope they wouldn't do a "newborn in jeopardy" plot. Now if you wanted to follow the comics and have someone join the FF while Sue is on the sidelines, like Spidey, that could be fun to shake things up in the 3rd movie.ย
The Reed and Sue wedding was a big deal in the comics, I'd like to see that happen with a lot of cameos - could make for a perfect D+ special. Sue finding out she is pregnant is a perfect post-credits scene.ย
I have been hoping that Doom took over Sokovia and renamed it ancestral name Latveria, first seeming benevolent but now a dictator...ย

Agreed, and this is why I feel there is so much potential in getting Iman Vellani, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh and Tatiana Maslany together in a MCU film as the chemistry, energy and charisma would just be off the charts if they did it right.

I disagree, especially a pregnant woman with force field projection powers. Even if we don't get into 'pregnant women would probably like to see themselves represented on screen and heroic' as well as formerly pregnant women seeing someone like Sue in that situation, but it's also something no superhero movie has ever done. And Sue's drive to save others as well as herself would never be more intense than when carrying a child, so that's some great fodder for scenes in my mind.

I'd be fine with that, sure. but having her pregnant and giving birth is new ground for superhero movies and, to me, too good to do offscreen.
Doom taking Sokovia is a good idea.

I guess most 9-month pregnant women I have associated with seem to be mainly focused on the health of their baby while being fairly uncomfortable, stiff and wanting to rest. I might be wrong, but I think most women would find the idea of someone a few weeks from her due date doing super-hero stuff kind of unrealistic.

Well sure, not all women have the exact same experience. Two of my friends were forced not to work for half their pregnancies due to complications etc. My biggest experience is my wife who was active with all three of her pregnancies. Even our last one, she was still running around and doing stuff, I think she even made dinner while in labor. (By that one, she REALLY knew what she was doing and was determined to spend as little time in the hospital as possible, so she was staving off the drive until she knew it was definitely time.)
But I know my wife is a serious hardass and control freak. I could see Sue being that way too though. Even if most women have a certain experience, Sue is a superhero and would likely be an extreme example of what a pregnant woman is capable of.ย I don't understand why that's something one couldn't expect from a comic book movie.
ย
Not to belabor further but I mentioned it to my wife and she pointed out that, assuming Sue is fit, she'll probably have an easier pregnancy anyway. A lot of crossfit people or trainers, you can find videos of them working out almost normally while pregnant because their bodies are stronger. The more fit a woman is, the easier the pregnancy tends to be. Of course mileage may vary but again, in a superhero movie one wouldn't expect the every-person experience. Not all women have to be laid up and helpless the last month.
@ru1977 So basically, I'm left with the position that would be me telling you that your wife is wrong... 🤔 🤨ย
Discretion is the better part of valor. You win this round, sir. 🤣 🤣ย
Eh, I mean...you're allowed to think she's wrong if you want. I know how her pregnancies went and how many workout videos she followed during. Like I said, not every pregnancy is gonna be like her experience but what she went through was very different from what I usually see in movies and shows. I suspect she had a few more pregnancies than you though... 😆ย
Meanwhile, Madame Web flopped so hard it shook Sony's plans off the table.
The last time Sony faceplanted this badly with their Spider-Man plans they optioned the rights back to Marvel Studios, hopefully this results in something similar.
In the meantime, that article makes a pretty good case for Marvel fans to boycott both Kraven and Venom 3.
