On the 5th day of Christmas, What If..? gave to me - what I suspect was meant to be the season premiere episode for Season 2. (Given the Watcher is repairing the hole where Ultron broke through last season)
Always like to see more of Peggy and Steve as I feel their story brought much needed heart and true emotion to the MCU. And Capt. Carter is a great addition to the MCU lore and I hope she makes another live action appearance at some point. Having her be the "star" of What If..? is a nice touch.
So I enjoyed this one quite a bit...
Again I agree about them being the heart of the MCU. And I had assumed this episode would open the season too.
So What If...? Ep 6 is quite a departure from the series so far.
Interesting idea, a whole new character, probably need some time to think on it. Interesting to have the whole story subtitled (with somewhat anachronistic language at times).
I'm guessing Strange is putting together a team, which we saw the first part of with Peggy in Ep 5 ending up somewhere with I think Fury and Wanda...
Not sure the portrayal of the Spanish was too accurate - I don't think they landed that far north above Florida very often, and I am also not sure they would attack and burn villages like that - interactions changed over time but I didn't think their default position was aggression to that extent, they tended to want to interact with the indigenous people to get information, trade some goods, etc. They obviously got into significant fighting with the Aztecs and Incas, but Spanish policy was more to have the native peoples become Spanish citizens, join the culture and the religion, at least that was the goal later on in Florida and the US southwest especially via the missions. If folks have info otherwise or know if this was based on incidents from earlier or specific expeditions, I would be curious to hear about it.
I am absolutely loving What If? season 2 so far! I particularly enjoyed the Christmas Eve episode, getting to see Tony alive finally, Peggy vs Hydra Stomper 2, and this latest Mohawk episode. But they have all been a lot of fun.
I’ve only watched the first three.
Nebula - be more clever writers. Triple cross actually neutralized the threat. Lame.
1988 Avengers with Peter Quill playing the role of Korvac. Ok. I liked the pieces used to tell the story but it was rushed. Thor didn’t have to be in this story either. The story would have been more interesting using the less used character pieces more. Thor is in all of these.
Holiday movie rip off episode. Sort of entertaining. Hammer was a good villain for this. Shame they accelerated the story with gamma “handicap” like the bare footed John McClain. I would have enjoyed a bit clever-ness. It was ok.
Now on to Sakaar…
Thwipp!

I didn't really notice any anachronistic language, but I would take the translation to be more 'modern', rather than the original language. And that makes total sense about Strange. Fury seemed like an old-timey version of himself to me.
I've really enjoyed most of the the episodes this season (and at least mildly enjoyed the rest), but this one was definitely my favorite of the series so far. It was also cool to get a little more Devery Jacobs.
@ru1977 "I didn't really notice any anachronistic language, but I would take the translation to be more 'modern', rather than the original language."
That's a better description of it. I guess it sounded to me like they wrote it in modern English then worked out the native language aspect, so I kind of guess the "script" was what we saw in the subtitles.
Ep 7 was pretty good as well, this has been a pretty good season of What If...? so far, I've liked almost everything.
So I am thinking there could be at least 3 good animated series they could do in the MCU timeline:
Avengers between Avengers 1 and Infinity War
1980's/90's SHIELD/Avengers stories
Tales of Asgard (I'd like to see Odin, Hela et al in their prime...for awhile, then add in Thor, Loki, Warriors Three, Balder, etc.)
SIG-NAL! SIG-NAL! SIG-NAL!
It's funny, I came into this season thinking I really didn't need more What If...? as Season 1 was OK but not great (I should rewatch season 1 to be sure), but Season 2 seems like such a real bump up in quality - I am honestly a little surprised how much fun it has been.
Damnit, I think I'm three behind already!

I feel the same about season 2 but am also wondering if I should watch season 1 again.
This latest one was a real 'just turn off your brain and enjoy the ridiculous ride' episode. Once I stopped trying to find logic, I had a blast. And I don't mean that in a 'turn off your brain and enjoy a Michael Bay Transformers' way, but distracting myself with trying to reason how things got this way was really getting in the way.
I have really been enjoying every episode of this show so far. Hela was awesome, as was Mandarin.
1602 was a lot of fun!
I honestly had no idea how much I could enjoy a Hela redemption story.
What If...? finale was fun even though...
And it did flash me to Gandalf fighting the Balrog while falling near the end.
I feel like an episode of Kahhori helping Strange capture bad guys, and maybe a good guy but she doesn't know it was a good guy but feel betrayed at the end, might have helped this storyline. It all came together but the idea that Kahhori was doing this for awhile, and thinking she was doing the right thing, might have been more interesting to explore and she escapes to the Hydra universe, and then have Strange recruit Peggy to capture some more bad guys before the Kahhori mission... I don't know, something seemed half-baked to me, maybe the leap from the Kahhori we saw to now...?
But I did like that it tied up last year's Strange storyline, given that might have been the best episode of last season.
