Chuck Austen is what happens when you put an infinite amount of monkeys in a room and tell them to write a comic, but all the monkeys have had a lobotomy.

Yeah, his tenure on Avengers was...yeah. That sure was a thing that I don't miss at all.

I somehow had completely forgotten he wrote Avengers. I'll admit I have a huge soft spot for the new Captain Britain aka Lionheart from those pages, and really want a figure of her. A FA Captain Britain/Lionheart 2-pack would warm my cold cold heart.

If memory serves, didn't they later establish somewhere that those who choose the Amulet of Right become Captains Britain, while those who choose the Sword of Might become Lionhearts? I actually like that concept.

But yeah, as far as figures go, if they did a 2-pack like that, I'd grab it. I'd put Lionheart with my Excalibur display.

I know at some point in Chuck Austin's Avengers he had Hawkeye and Wasp have sex.

In Uncanny Angel and Husk were having sex (Husk......from Generation X.....the TEENAGE team), Juggernaut and She-Hulk were having sex, Polaris talked at length about her sex life with Iceman, and there was some sort of mutant prostitute who was a new team member at the time.

Notice a theme?

Hot, steamy garbage.

I had successfully memory-holed those Chuck Austen stories for YEARS.   Why did you guys have to roll away the stone and bring all of that flooding back.   Why???

With a third X-Men 97 wave not till next year, what are the chances some of the wave 1&2 figures see re-release before or around the 3rd wave?

My guess is probably not much unless a retailer specifically asks for more.     It's possible that Target asks for more,  but also risky since the need for more may diminish the further out we get.    There is, I suppose a chance that Hasbro runs some more to send out at the same time as Wave 3 or to refresh for closer to when Season 2 drops.

But I think Hasbro might be gun shy about rerunning figures from the first two waves, sending them out to retail and then having them just hang on pegs to eventually hit clearance.   They definitely don't need that.

I've had a couple friends who don't collect figures express to me that they'd like to buy at least the 97 Wolverine and/or Rogue because they liked the show but they can't be found anywhere for a reasonable price.  So once again, money left on the table and the overlooking of possible new collectors.  I would think at least Wolverine gets a reissue, or maybe Hasbro thinks the brown/tan version they'll invariably put out will fill that need.

See -  I think that's an incredibly difficult calculus to get right for both Hasbro and for the retailers right now.   Everyone just got done taking an absolute bath on over-ordering action figure product.   We saw just warehousefuls of stock sent to remainder stores and sold for pennies on the dollar.

That just happened.     You can't blame the stores - and Hasbro - for being more cautious with ordering and production now.    Sure there are some sales they are missing -   but it's hard to gauge exactly how many that is and where is the sweet spot between truckloads of overstock at clearance prices and a product desert leaving too many would-be customers out in the cold.

I think if I'm the producer of these things maybe it's better to slightly underserve and have people be greedy to buy them up when they see them  - and stop waiting for everything to get marked down.

It's a tricky spot, especially when they're guessing on movie/TV show popularity in advance.

Wanna be clear for the people who didn't read Morrisons run- the 97 episode containing the giant sentinel attack on Genosha wasn’t just one plot point. Magneto was also believed dead, and Emma turned diamond. We should at least acknowledge there were a number of signs that indicate the show runners appreciated the story.

Also I think it’s weird to say Morrison’s Xmen was an especially low point even if you didn’t like it. Were you reading the stories right before New Xmen? The post “The Twelve” era was going no where (and I liked the Twelve until the conclusion). Did you read Austen’s Xmen? What about Bendis bringing back the originals for entirely too long?

Whether they were great comics runs or not, I still want Cassandra Nova and Stacy X. The Nova is compelling enough to at least justify a figure, but I think putting her in 97 would be pretty cool. Plus she had a recent media appearance, so that’s established her character for a wider audience.

Stacy X could be a great conduit to explore how marginalized people are often forced by circumstance to take roles that mainstream society looks down upon, and then challenge the notion that Stacy’s former role was something to be ashamed of at all. Then again, that would require Marvel write a comic with actual meaning (beyond selling more movies or crossover comics), so I doubt it would happen.

No, let's not overthink how difficult it is to rerelease popular things.  It's not difficult and if it's a popular item there's no risk.  No risk to Hasbro, no risk to retailers.

MOTU Origins does this right.  Popular characters from the line that have spiked on the aftermarket got a "Fans' Choice" reissue in a short amount of time.  Just yesterday Hasbro themselves rereleased the GI Joe VAMP at a $30 mark up and the preorder is already long gone.

"Thinking about" this, "factoring in" that, "guessing about" something else is a whole lot of mental gymnastics that you don't need to do.  Was the figure popular?  Did it sell?  Are there people asking for more?  It's not difficult at all.

On the whole, I agree.  But playing Devil's advocate, The first Origins "Fan's Choice" Zodac is on sale, and the Vamp is not really a rerelease, it was damaged boxes that Hasbro didn't want to sell from Pulse, even though BBTS sold out of them at said $30 mark up within an hour.

As far as it not being too difficult to figure out, apparently the over all "Supply and Demand" thing is for hasbro.  Why in the hell would they not only rerelease, but put out essentially a 3rd, updated version of a figure in the exact same costume that pegwarmed FOREVER in Brother Voo-Doo? That will definitely not need a re-release.

If they re-released the figures and promised they'd finish the Season 1 looks for the major players I'd probably cave and get them. So far I've just bought the never done characters, but was tempted by the others in stores.

Target has had an odd run of re-releasing old figures with hot claws Wolvie, Red Hulk, and PotP Optimus. Those were all singles though.

Also, for the record, I like Igor Kordej's art.
