Has any other Disney Plus show gotten two waves before X-Men '97?
Has any other Disney Plus show been as good as X-Men 97?
I really like She-Hulk, Loki S1, and most of WandaVision, but no.
This Reddit post is a pretty comprehensive list of who we could see in figure form.
My biggest wants are Bastion, brown-costume Wolverine (new Astonishing body articulation scheme), '80s Rogue, and Magik.
Dan Yun already said several times that Wolverine has a few more figures this year. I'm pretty sure we will see new brown-costume Wolverine in the Secret Wars Wave. New Classic Cap probably too...

Most Disney Plus Marvel and Star Wars shows are pretty mediocre to bad. I've forgotten most of them. Moon Knight started well and ended badly. A lot of normies now hate She-Hulk character because of that cringe tv show, which is sad, because Jenn is a treasure. I liked "Werewolf by Night". Andor was really great, but no one's really watched it except the two remaining Star Wars fans. Everyone had already forgotten about Ahsoka, and what they did to Thrawn was just sad. The Acolyte trailer is ratioed. So yeah...I don't know.
The answer is, obviously, Andor. Then X-Men 97.

I think half the issue was that X-Men fans have waited so long for this.....we were eager for it. The anticipation was built up. X-Men the TV show, the incarnation of X-Men that many considered the definitive take on the team (no one has ever said that about the movie version) had been MIA for years. With the MCU, Endgame ended, the story came to a natural and satisfying end, and then immediately they go to D+ content and "phase 4" both of which have been very mediocre. They were just continuing for the sake of continuing. Continuing for content's sake. Star Wars is much the same. It's just taken for granted that some Marvel thing or some Star Wars thing is out there to consume at all times. It's all just so-so, and no one is really eager for anything.
That's only HALF the issue though. The other half, and the most important, is that the show was just plain good. Cyclops did his superhero landing in the first ep and everyone has been locked in since.

Wandavision was unique enough that it held my attention. Loki for the most part as well. All I remember about the last episode of s1 was them sitting and talking to the character who was supposed to be the next Big Bad before all those plans got torpedoed and that put me in no rush to watch season 2. She Hulk is not hot button topic for me as it is for seemingly many others, I wasn't blown away but I wasn't triggered by it either.
I loved Mandalorian season 1. Each week I was eager for more. But they fan serviced and deep faked their way through every episode of season 2 (plus they blew up the Haslab before it even arrived on peoples' doorsteps). They set up a strong beginning but they couldn't help themselves, they Star Warsed it. I've been tuned out ever since.

It's hard to overstate just how good the '97 pilot was. Flyclops, Storm glassing the dessert, Gambit/Wolverine fusion powers, a lot of the old voice cast back (and new folks doing a bang up job), team sports scene...
And you're absolutely right. Marvel and Star Wars content is made simply because it's a line on an excel sheet somewhere that says "we own this and must leverage it every 6 months until the sun burns out". In that sort of environment the really good stuff escapes rather than being planned. Andor, Spiderverse, and '97 are anomalies. The only reason I think '97 will continue to be good for any length of time is because a big hunk of it is apparently already written. Even though we're definitely going to get a Spider-man or Iron Man cartoon reboot now, I fear they will inevitably be compromised because they won't be happening because anyone has vision for them, but merely because they are the next brands ripe for value extraction.

You're absolutely correct. You can smell it in the air. The execs are planning to resurrect everything and stick a 90's year behind it not because anyone has a vision, but because it worked once before. They will learn exactly the wrong lesson. Again.
Or they will learn another wrong lesson and won't do anything with all the potential.
But hey...at least we have Hawkeye season 2 now! Yippee...
The best thing I can say about the cartoon is that it made me like a property I didn't care about before. I didn't care at all about the 90s X-Men (I was an X-Factor guy) and was even less interested in the cartoon.
Now I'm really feeling the joy and looking forward to any attempt at modern retro seasons of Spider-Man or Iron Man.
As an added bonus, the character choices and costume changes have me really confident for ML versions of yellow-trunks Cyclops, 80s Rogue, and at least a training suit Sunspot.

Yellow trunks Cyclops is a lock even without the cartoon. You can't get that TRU two pack version for less than an arm and a leg and most importantly, it's an easy way to sell the Vulcan buck again.
A lull is natural between seasons, but I think the hype will still be there for a bit before winding down, and the reception was so strong- and the merch push not necessarily as strong as it could've been- that I can easily see a wave 3 or re-release of the first two waves selling well. Especially since so many people missed out on some of the most wanted figures- Gambit, Rogue, etc. I don't really see a world where Hasbro doesn't push a wave 3 out as quickly as they can, especially since there were some of the main characters and two of the main villains who didn't even make it into the waves, so people will grab them if only to finish up the teams. I don't know if I'd grab any of the team's new retro looks from the 3 part finale (apart from Storm's)- having grown up with the 90's cartoon, those are my preferred looks for the characters. Part of me is nervous that some of the missing characters from the first two waves like Morph and Jubilee will get done in their newer costumes before their starting ones, but I think we're fine.
I think the perfect next wave for me would be what a lot of others have said- Morph, Jubilee, Sunspot, Forge, Bastion, and the final figure be whoever- Sinister, Abscissa, or Cable (my preferred choice). Though, if Bastion ends up as a deluxe, then that leaves another slot open. Only reason I think Beast wouldn't be included is that his look never really changed, so he could potentially be included with any wave/version of the characters and still fit.
I absolutely loved the finale. The whole season, in fact, was pitch perfect for me. Just everything I'd been wanting from a comic adaptation for a long while, in ways that even the MCU has struggled to do (and I love the MCU). The X-Men always helped get me through hard times as a kid, and I think, with the state of the world what it is right now, they came back at the perfect time.
@yojoebro82 Yeah, and it's worth noting, X-Men 97 itself isn't like, untested ground. There have been comics for it for YEARS now. It's a fan-favorite series with legs that have been proven to extend into modern audiences. It's a very low-risk idea. And the only reason any of those other shows are getting buzz is because the audience just assumes they'll all be of the same quality, but there's no reason at all to assume that based on the Disney+ show overall track record.

TBF I'd be ok with that for Jubilee. I love that black undersuit with yellow coat look. But I do think folks deserve another shot at the classic if they want it.

I worry that the best days of the MCU are behind us because of exactly what you're talking about. Almost all of the best MCU content came before Disney realized it was sitting on a money-printing machine. Quality movies and TV shows only happen by accident when shareholders and execs require creators to add three Glup Shitto cameos per episode and keep the story going beyond its natural expiration date. That's my issue with contemporary Star Wars.
The Spider-Man Animated continuation is coming, no doubt about it.
Really, my biggest gripe about X-Men '97 is that Disney forced the showrunners to capitalize on a known product instead of A) starting fresh or B) rebooting X-Men: The Animated Series. A lot of the stuff I want to see them tackle has already been done in the original animated show from 30 years ago.
X-Men '97 was great, but I'm convinced a brand-new X-Men animated series could've been even better.
The answer is, obviously, Andor. Then X-Men 97.
Yeah, I was only counting Marvel stuff, but it's worth mentioning that Andor is better. Andor is one of the best TV shows of the decade.

Andor has the distinction I think of having been a good show, full stop. Not just a good Star Wars show, but good even if you'd never seen Star Wars. And I think that more since I got a friend into Andor who hadn't ever seen any Star Wars and has no interest in it. It has some of the best writing in all of Star Wars and I think hands down the best speech (the "I've made my mind a sunless place" one). Like, just solid show front to back.
