How do the X-Men '97 Marvel Legends compare to the Mafex versions?

The Legends Wolverine and Cyclops have eclipsed the 2020 Mafex Wolverine and Cyclops; all of the others have a slight or huge edge towards the Mafex.  Jean Grey is the tightest comparison, but the Mafex is slightly better.

Medicom just re-released tiger stripe Wolverine and their Capcom Cyclops, and if you have those it's a tighter contest.  Just as Hasbro has improved the engineering of their plastic and joints to make them tighter Medicom has also improved theirs, and the re-released versions of their previous figures have MUCH better plastic and joints than the original releases.  Back in 2020 you would either get slightly loose joints, or if they were too tight they would squeak and eventually break if they were so tight that the squeak was consistent and loud.  Once you fixed that with shock oil they were slightly loose.  Now Medicom is using a new plastic that stays really tight without the squeaky breaking issues.

I'd give the nod to the Legends Wolverine just because of those garden rake claws on the Mafex.  Cyclops is tougher.  I much prefer the strap system on the Legends version, but the straps on the Mafex are pretty good so it's a bit of a nitpick.  I lean slightly towards the Mafex, but they're both really great figures.

Finally watched the first 2 episodes, and just like I thought, it made me want all the figures. Really took me back to being a kid watching the original series. Storm's moment in the first episode was fantastic, and like others have said, almost all of the second episode was phenomenal. Wasn't sure how I'd feel about Magneto's new look, but I'm growing to like it.  It's gonna be a great season!

I guess I'm alone in thinking the show's dialogue was hokey and self-important.

So pretty much in line with the original toon, which was pretty much the intent of the show?

It's a direct continuation of the '90s show. Things were cheesy, earnest, and a lot less self-aware back then. As I said in the show thread, it's also about grown adults running around in their underwear and shooting laser beams out of their eyeballs. Superheroes are hokey.

As far as the self-importance, I understand why you think that, but you'll never get me to agree. The X-Men are arguably the best minority metaphor in all of fiction. This isn't the Supercops (Avengers) chasing around some high-powered thief. There's more to it than that.

I didn’t grow up attached to the original show. My memories of it aren’t fond. I’m glad this iteration/continuation really seems to float a lot of people’s boats. Watching the two available episodes reminded me of what I avoided watching in the first place 30 years ago.

I didn't like the original X:TAS, either. Always preferred Evolution. I just like the X-Men and I think this has nailed the vibe.

Really glad I picked up the figure.

That was a BAD-ASS line in the show.  Loved every second of that episode, and that line was SO well-written.

I really, really hope Disney didn't fire the show creator just because of that dumb OnlyFans page, because he's done such a good job with this show that I'm on the edge of my seat to be pissed about this.  This show is AWESOME!

I'm gonna say with 99% certainty he's gone. Because of the only fans page. I'm not 100% sure why that's a big deal though. WWE fired someone because she had 1 too. I mean, let them make some extra money on the side. They weren't hurting anyone. I truly doubt any kid is going to only fans and being like "oh my God, that's the writer of the show I like." Not to mention this show is geared toward adults more now anyway. And I'm pretty sure alot of people didn't know he had one. So all they did was brought attention to it. And then canned the guy. Disney sometimes fires people for, imo, stupid reasons.

And uhh, I don't know how their contracts are written up, but I doubt they had a "no porn" clause in there. Although, it may be something they do going forward lol.

Also, some of their actors, who have done other movies, have been naked, in some of those other movies, before and after their Disney contracts. I don't see how onlyfans is worse then nudity in other projects. At least the more mild only fans pages anyway. I have not looked into it, but I'm not sure how hardcore you're allowed to go on onlyfans. But even though he did have one, it may not have been all that "bad" anyway. Shit John Cena has an onlyfans. But I hear his is funny.

The onlyfans account that the dude had was said to be non explicit in the articles that talked about it, so it wasn't porn. It's more likely that he was fired because he's an asshole to his co-workers and finally pissed off the wrong person (it's the same reason he was fired from the Witcher series).

This I did not know. I supposed it's bad on me, but I rarely pay attention to the writers of TV shows and movie names, unless it's also the director. And/or someone like Joss Whedon or James Cameron. Zack Snyder. Things like that. Guy in chair number 5 really isn't on my radar, which is probably a shitty thing to say, but ehh, I'm not perfect.

If he was shitty to his coworkers, that is a much better reason then an onlyfans account, and I would hope that's why he got fired. And good riddance then I say. We could all use more good coworkers then ass hats.

Directors don't really do much on television series; the top job on a serial show is usually called the "showrunner."  Directors get the work on an episode done, but they don't have the kind of creative control of the content film directors do since the story needs to be consistent across episodes and therefore across directors when a series has multiple directors for different episodes as they usually do.  Oddly it can be less than straightforward identifying who a showrunner is.  Sometimes a showrunner is a writer, sometimes they aren't.  Usually they're listed as a producer, but shows usually have LOTS of producers, so identifying the one who's the showrunner can be difficult.  If anyone has developed a more reliable way of identifying showrunners from lists of credits please do share.

From what I can tell Beau DeMayo created, wrote, and produced the show, and he appears to have been the showrunner.  Certainly several of the articles mentioning he was fired described him as the showrunner so his firing is definitely significant.

$100 foreign import figures of DC characters from R-rated movies aren't allowed to have guns. My MAFEX Hush Joker, based on a very adult comic book, wasn't even allowed to come with a pistol with a "bang!" flag sticking out of the end of it.

YouTubers get demonetized if, when talking about an R-rated horror movie, they use the wrong terminology. Heck, advocates of serious adult issues get demonetized if they use the proper terminology for the serious adult issue.

Gods forbid sperm & egg donors actually parent their children. No, the rest of the adult world has to live G-rated lives in order to not "permanently scar" their coddled fragile crotch goblins.

Found a lone X-Cutioner at Target the other day. Which is cool because he was the only one I was looking for.

Normally I'd have no use for a figure of a character like that, but the fact that he was available as his episode aired meant I was glad I picked him up just in case I felt like that. And that cannon became pretty important.
