A lot of thoughtful conversation about the show going on here. As always, I recommend those with thoughts bring them over to the X-Men '97 thread in the Movies and TV subforum so we can keep it all in one place. It's much easier to discuss that way.

How do the X-Men '97 Marvel Legends compare to the Mafex versions?Β
@jag2045 a bit of a loaded question. Medicom has not done proper X-Men '97 versions of the X-Men, but they obviously have plenty of Jim Lee era X-Men to choose from. In almost all cases, if you're just doing an apples to apples comparison the MAFEX is going to win every time and should considering it's 3-4x the price. Even with that said, there is some room for subjectivity. I think the MAFEX Magneto is the best Magneto committed to plastic yet while the X-Men '97 is flawed, at best. I personally don't care for the MAFEX Cyclops, but I also don't like the X-Men '97 portrait. If we're comparing MAFEX to the VHS Cyclops though, I actually probably prefer the Legend. And I just plain don't like the MAFEX yellow Wolverine. I would not personally pay 25 bucks for it because I don't think it looks very good while the X-Men '97 one is fine. There are others out there, but generally speaking, if you're good with the price and like how the figure looks you'll get more out of a MAFEX vs a Marvel Legends.
MAFEX's X-Men are actually relatively poor compared to the rest of their comic figures. Storm, Gambit, and Magneto are nearly perfect, but most of the rest of them are middling. I'd rather have the Legends version of Cyclops, Psylocke, and tiger-stripe Wolverine. Jean is a wash.
A Legends Psylocke on the new Black Widow body would blow the MAFEX figure out of the water.
What store did you see that Pillow at?
I was going to buy Magneto whenever they finally made him in the costume anyway, but I'm so glad it happened around the show. I can watch a near-perfect Magneto characterization on TV and then walk over to my desk and play with the real thing.
I watched both episodes today, for the SECOND time.Β I think it's that good and personally I thought the trailer looked excellent.Β I rewatched a chunk of the original and I gotta say I still love it, but this is also better.Β Definitely the best Magneto and I feel hooked like 14 year old me ha.Β They really went for it in episode 2 and can't wait to see what happens next.Β I think they have a hit brewing and should mean great things for toys 😀Β
Β
What do we know about Morph's powers?Β I never cared for him as he was simply a cartoon creation and I felt a plot device originally.Β Now he seems more interesting especially visually.Β If he an really take on characters' powers and not just their appearance he would be like an Apocalypse level threat.Β It's interesting.Β He should get his own sculpt too, very lean.
Β
So I will be buying most of the toys, would love it to go deep!Β and get a Sentinel(s).Β I grabbed Mafex Cyclops on BBTS for a reasonable $109.Β By far the most accurate rendition of Jim Lee's version.Β The truncated abs, beefy proportions, color and properly sized and placed straps on the legs are directly from so many images of comics I read.Β I do not understand the disdain he gets.Β Like, have people ever actually looked at the artwork he comes from?Β I like the '97 Cyclops ok and will probably get him, but the leg straps are way too fucking high and skinny.Β Β

Morph can only replicate physical mutations, that's a pretty consistent aspect of his powers, both in the old toon and in his comic versions

Looks like it's a comic store item, from Bleacher Creatures:

Thanks for sharing! Itβs funny β the link you shared was to Forbidden Planet, a comic store in NYC I was literally in yesterday. I didnβt see the Sentinel but was probably distracted from unexpectedly finding the Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo and Captain America figures.Β

Yes, I got it from a local shop.Β It was a bit more than I wanted to pay, but its uniqueness got to me.Β It wasn't my only purchase that day either.Β I actually splurged a bit which is not common for me.
Β
The end credits where they spin the character models but don't do everyone is hilariously throwback but also SO FRUSTRATING - just do them all, or rotate who doesn't get a turn.
Β
My kids and I were trying to guess who the last card is that never gets turned around.Β My guesses in order of likelihood are Professor X, Nightcrawler, and Cable.
Is Ep.2 the best-ever characterization of Magneto in non-comic book media ever?
That's a great question. Magneto is by far my favorite villain, so this is a question I definitely care about.
I can't decide, but the other depiction of him that's contending is Michael Fassbender in the role during X-Men: First Class.Β For a while Fox was developing a standalone Magneto movie, but they eventually ditched that idea and incorporated all of the major story elements from the standalone film into First Class.Β I love most of Magneto's scenes throughout that film, it's EXCEPTIONALLY well written and still one of the top 20 Marvel movies ever made.
Right now I'm biased towards First Class as being better than episode 2, but I agree with you that he's so good in that episode that I need to really reconsider this.Β I'll try to re-watch First Class followed quickly by episode 2 and give it a better comparison with both fresh in my mind.

Really glad I picked up the figure.
That was a BAD-ASS line in the show.Β Loved every second of that episode, and that line was SO well-written.
I really, really hope Disney didn't fire the show creator just because of that dumb OnlyFans page, because he's done such a good job with this show that I'm on the edge of my seat to be pissed about this.Β This show is AWESOME!
