I opened my Magneto today, too. I'm always surprised by how much I like the figures on the new bodies (though I shouldn't be, they have almost all the articulation I've been calling for for years). Magneto's long-ass arms aren't as noticeable in person. My only real issue with the figure is how much the cape limits the head articulation, but I plan on swapping it out for a soft goods version anyway.
Between Vulcan and RYV Spidey, I wish I had more reasons to buy Marvel Legends. Maybe their release schedule will coincide better with my want list in the next year or two.
Isn't this Magneto a tweak of the one from the first wave? The more I look at the previous one and blowups of the new one the more it looks to me like they sculpted new shins with a cut and new feet, removed the detail from the forearm and shin and underoo detail from the top of the leg.
Wasn't the Magneto from wave 1 felt to be too tiny compared to other characters? I don't think it shares a body with this new Magneto. I didn't buy the Wave 1 Mags in part due to the various complaints about his size on line.
And the tweaks you outline - sculpting new shins, removing detail from forearms and thighs.... that's essentially the same as creating new tools for those parts, so I doubt they modified existing tools instead of creating new ones. In short - no I don't think this is just a tweak from the previous Magneto.
Naw, wv2 Magneto is a whole different figure from wv1 and I don’t think they share *any* parts. Wv2 is MUCH larger in build, looks to have the equivalent of 20-40 pounds of “muscle” on the first figure.
Cracked open Cyke, Kurt, and Maddie today. I did notice Madelyne is very pink, but I actually feel like it's almost like a flushed look and I thought it gave her a unique look - definitely not the costume I wanted first for her but I legit love this figure. The head sculpt has so much personality and the buck has great ROM, better than usual for a caped figure.
Nightcrawler might be my favorite TOY of the year so far. I've had figures I liked better artistically, but this figure's just a joy to mess with. I can't stop posing him.
Cyclops - yeah, the head's bland. I do like the way the buck splits the difference between the BuckyCap body and the heftier Lee-era Scott figure though. I like him overall, just not my favorite Cyclops. I can't believe it but I think I just flat out like him on that aging BuckyCap body.
No movement on Jean shipping from Amazon yet but I kinda like having a wave trickle in like this so I can mess around with a few figures at a time.
The hair swoop on this Nightcrawler might just be a little too boy band for me. Its one of the old 3 heads on the new body for me. Wonder if its worth trying to eBay the old body with the new heads. (Obviously stating clearly what it was) I just don't keep the massive fodder bins I used to
Goblin Queen showed up yesterday and I'm really happy to have her. With her in hand I noticed that there is a boot line on the thigh and that the upper thigh is textureless, so if you wanted to bring her a little closer to her comic look you can paint the thighs flesh tone and have it look totally normal and intentional. There is texturing on her torso, so it would look off to simply repaint her midriff, but the thighs would be super easy.
It does make me a little sad though that they could sculpt those boot tops for GQ, but then I look at the sad painted boot tops on my Moondragon. Come to think of it.... the Moondragon torso has a bare midriff and might be good for a less demure Madelyne...
Excited to get this wave. I had it ordered with Amazon but canceled when I saw it was in stock at CMDStore. Unfortunately, the USPS misdelivered/lost the package, but thankfully, CMDStore is sending a replacement.
I've been trying to be patient and not have to get everything right away, but really can't wait for this wave and the show. The X-Men animated series was my gateway into not just X-Men but the entire Marvel Universe. I was originally a DC kid.
I don't know exactly who is in X-Men '97 but I'd like to see a new Jim Lee Psylocke soon. I (and many others) missed out on the blue costume version Apocalypse wave figure when they decided to do a running change to the marbled purple version, which I really think is a less-popular and desired figure.
Anyone try the new Jean heads on the old body? I thought the paint job on the VHS Jean was among the better attempts at shading from that line, but I hate the heads.

Some people have long arms so I don't get the issue. Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man can make us believe we all have the same perfect symmetry of height and arm wingspan, but it isn't true. Most people have wingspans greater than their height, and some people have wingspans MUCH greater than their height by up to a foot. I mostly know that from seeing those measurements on NBA players who frequently have really long arms since it helps in the sport.
I remember hearing people complain about the long arms on both the Mafex and Legends versions of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, but we were wrong and Medicom and Hasbro were right--Boseman just has really long arms, you can easily see it in pics where he's standing with them hanging to his side. Neil DeGrasse Tyson does too, you can easily see it and he has referred to it repeatedly in StarTalk over the years.

This figure makes me so happy, and the solution to her uneven paint lines down her chest is great - the peach sides are cast as different pieces than the blue. Switching the articulation to the waist pivot allows that, and in this instance, I'm actually fine with it. The aesthetic is clean and modern and the colors aren't blurred!
@schizm thanks for the pics. New ponytail head is definitely a step up from the old one. Now to decide if I want to drop 25 bucks for a new head or take my chances and hope for a clearance situation.
Can anyone who has Goblin Queen already try sticking her head on Bonebreaker wave Siryn? I'm curious as to how well Madelyne makes for a proper red haired, red skinned Irish lass.

But this isn't an NBA player or a guy on the street with long arms. It's Magneto. He's supposed to have idealized superhero proportions. You can excuse it or justify it, but it's still a flaw in the sculpt.
Yep, It's a Comic Book Character, not a random human from street. He needs to have superhero proportions. And most of the Marvel Legend figures ignore that rule. You might as well make figures with no muscles at all, because some people in real life don't have them.
Look at Mafex Magneto. His proportions are almost perfect. Spider-Man looks like Spider-Man, same with Nightwing. Broad shoulders and all.
