Still surprised that Morph didn't make it into the first 2 waves (would have been a better choice than a 2nd Magneto), would love to get this look through official means and without having to remove the cel shading

While I understand the point - the fact is that the "unmasked" Morph figure was relesaed in the VHS line, and that figure can  also be kitbashed with the AoA Morph head for the "masked" Morph look in a pinch.

Whereas this is the first time in Legends getting this look for Magneto - which apparently is also in the show.   So I'm happy to get a figure I don't have over a figure I do already basically have.

And, hopefully there is enough enthusiasm to get to a 3rd wave for this show that will almost certainly feature Morph and Sunspot -  ideally Cable, among others...   Obviously Beast and Sabretooth would be good - but may have to be deluxe or released in a different format.

At the same time, we literally just got Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine and Storm in the VHS line and Rogue, Gambit and Storm all had recent(ish) releases in the Retro line. Recent releases aren't a disqualifier for the 97 waves. They could have just as easily not had the traditional Magneto in the first wave, but there really wasn't much reason to have a Magneto in both waves in my opinion. I'd happily replace the Morph I made with one that doesn't need the cel shading stripped off of it since I wasn't able to cleanly get everything.

It also looks like Morph chooses to be far more slight in X-Men 97. That VHS body looks too big and bulgy for a proper X-Men 97 Morph (it's also a little on the big side for the 92 series, but not to a huge degree) so if they want to do an all new one I think it should happen.

Showed the trailer to my wife and oldest son last night, and their main comments were about the animation, and how they're surprised it doesn't look better. And based solely on the trailer, I can't say I disagree. I guess I was hoping for something more as far as the animation went. Smoother. But we'll see once the series actually premieres.

I definitely feel you there. I'll hold off final judgement until I see it, but right now the trailer doesn't have me exactly pumped for the actual animation. I wish they had hired Titmouse. Studio Mir is the one doing it though and they've done good stuff in the past (Harley Quinn, My Adventures with Superman) but I don't know if Warner gave them more money than Disney/Marvel. I also don't know if they handle everything in-house or if they're one of those studios that farm out a lot of the work to smaller shops. We're long removed from the days where Michael Eisner was in charger at Disney and demanded that any animation the company put out was better than everyone else's.

It looks like the 90s cartoon enough for me, I'm excited.  If there were different animation samples we could see and choose from then maybe I would scrutinize more. As is, it's scratching the itch.

As for toys I 100% expect Morph in a Wave 3.  Cable is what I want most (obviously).  I would be interested in more VHS style releases on Pulse for that matter.  I think 2 waves hitting basically before Season 1 airs in full is a good sign for a 3rd wave since Season 2 was already confirmed.

Although this is the 97 toon figure thread, I’ll just throw this out there in case anyone at Hasbro is listening.

XMen Evolution toon fans exist too. Some ML figures from that series would be nice at some point.

The only Marvel Legends figure I would get from X-Men Evolution is Spyke.

Wolverine’s second Evolution costume is a top-tier Wolverine costume and I would *love* to see it in Legends, especially with the black biker jacket over it. I believe it was also technically an Ultimate X-Men costume as well. It was more-or-less done in early Hasbro ML but it’s just one of the most awful figures made even at that time.

As for the cartoon itself: I definitely dug Evolution and still prefer it to the 90s show. It’s not perfect and I have complaints, but I love the art style and the characterizations. Also: goth Rogue. Actually, goth Rogue *and* goth Wanda. And Kurt was just charming as hell. Most of the costumes were pretty cool and I’d buy figures of all of them. Although I honestly never warmed to Spyke (“kewl skateboarding teen” was never an archetype I liked even when I *was* a teen), I’d definitely go for his more monstrous latter-season form.

Hell, I'd take the orange and black Wolverine costume just to prove Hasbro is aware of Evolution's existence.

Add me to the list of folks who prefer it to the '90s show.

That's for sure. Especially with all the computer-animated junk they put out now.

X-Men Evolution Wolverine costume is great. Don't think Hasbro will release a figure of that though.

I also love his Ultimate costume. Maybe because of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance or because it was everywhere at that time.

If they were to do X-Men Evolution figures they would have to be stylized like the Spider-Verse stuff. You can squint and look at the 92 series and see Jim Lee, but not really with Evolution. I did like some of the looks in that show. Wolverine’s first costume was a fun take on his brown suit and I did like the Ultimate X-Men inspired look later. I was also a fan of Ultimate X-Men in general and felt the costumes in that book did a better job of coming up with a modernized, uniform than the Fox movies.

Since it seems like Professor Xavier won't be in the new series, or will have a more limited role than in the original (was he transported to space at the end of the original series, I can't remember?), what are the chances that they release a new or reissued Prof X figure in his yellow hover chair? I would like a 90s animated style Professor X and Beast to complete the team. I feel pretty confident Beast will come out in one of the 97 waves, but I have no idea about Professor X.

@bills-all-day Xavier is out is space being nursed back to health by Lilandra, I wouldn't expect him to show up until the 2nd season at the earliest

Personally I don't want him taking a slot since I want Cable and think Morph, Sunfire, Jubilee, Forge, Beast and a villain are likely on the docket.  We'll see.

However there is a retro Xavier coming and some people think it will be the jumpsuit version you can put in the chair.  Would be cool.  I am hoping for the Shiar Warlord look to finish the UXM 275 team.

It's more "90's animated X-men" than any of us could have possibly imagined.
