I know it's a tiring subject but the multipacks are such a buzzkill. Every Omega Red buck figure goes in a multipack. The Fixit set works great but the rest just look like they 2-packed all the figures of a normal ML wave. Gotta buy a repaint/rerelease to buy a new figure or character. I'm glad the 97 wave looks solid but we're really getting shafted here at $25 a pop with no BAFs and all these multipacks.
If the cartoon ever does come out, and is actually good, I don't see why the line can't be an ongoing thing. It was huge in the 90s generating a lot of really cool looking figures. Another series at least seems doable, but it has to have Cable (full size) as seen in the animation reveals. I expect Morph, Beast, Sunspot and Jubilee of course on reused bodies. Gimme Cable fully new.
Because back then they were $5 or less a pop and easier to make. Not to mention smaller, less plastic, and bigger audience. Nowadays they're doing good selling the ones they do make at full price, and even then alot of people are waiting for sales and clearance. Everything is so gd expensive anymore, and space is also limited for some people. It's not feasible to spend $25 a figure on Woverine in 20 different outfits with minor changes and every C and D list character that shows up for 30 seconds. And it's mainly just collectors buying them anymore. I mean, sure there are a few kids here and there. But the majority of them don't have the funds or care to buy them like we do.
Not to put him down, but I legitimately don't remember Shatterstar being in the 90s cartoon. He got 2 figures. Polaris was in 1 episode. She got a figure, that was, albeit, innacurate, cause it was just a Rogue repaint. Psylocke got like 3, and she was in 1 episode. But Jean never really did get a proper one and she was a main character. Those days were good for alot of things. But there is no way we'd be able to keep up with it in this day and age like back then. And we don't have a KB Toys doing a 3 for $10 deal to help out anymore either unfortunately lol.
As not sold on this new look as I thought I'd be, the sight of an Animated Jean Grey, with ponytail, on her OWN CARDBACK, after three decades, has me ridiculously excited.
The 90s line was actually comics based and comics sold in the millions then. Hence 2 Shatterstars, X-Force sold a ton of books. The cartoon just added to that in a huge way and got more eyeballs.
To be clear I'm not suggesting X-Men '97 can be that big again, but I think it's ok to have expectations bigger than just 2-3 waves. This new line is more cartoon looking than the Toy Biz ones ever were and I can see it running adjacent to Retro and BAF waves for a while honestly. The x stuff looks good.
We'll see if prices come down at all, probably not since of corporate greed and max profits.
Got the '97 Wolverine and, yeah, like everyone says this is a great Wolverine. While the unmasked head is -great-, I really can't express how excited I was to finally have that classic Wolverine silhouette on my shelf with the masked head.
That being said, it's been a while since I played with an ML Wolverine and I was reminded of the things I wish they'd do differently. For one, I'd really like to see his shoulder-pads on an inner ring like we see on Star Wars figures, so that they can rotate independently and I'm not always adjusting them. And Wolverine really needs better ROM in the neck, and a ball-jointed waist or mid-torso. There's just some poses I really wish he could hit, but the current style of artic don't allow for. Not the end of the world, but my god you know they're going to do all this eventually and make me buy all these costumes all over again.
I wish they would move on from that ab crunch they still use on so many figures, but a change like that will take Hasbro years because of their business model that relies on so much reuse.
@ditko I think people like to keep their expectations modest with ML as Hasbro rarely goes multiple waves on a single show, movie, and so on. If I had to guess, they probably agreed to 3 waves upfront when the show was announced and any more will depend on how well the figures perform and how the show is received. It might make more sense if the show is going well and more characters are needed that we stop seeing dedicated waves and instead just see a figure from the show here and there intermingled with other waves of Legends.
i’m needing some advice. I wanna make a 90s storm without the cell shading but use the legs & arms off this one. I’m wondering if anyone know if you can just remove the hair & swap them over or if i will have to remove the cell shading and then swap the limbs

Why not just head swap between the VHS and 97 ones? The heads should be compatible
I swapped the VHS Storm's head and hands and put them on the retro carded Jim Lee figure.
I'm just sticking to the Retro version for Storm. The pins don't bother me since they're not a different color and don't really stand out, plus I like the shiny white on the Retro better than the matte white on the '97 version. The gummy legs aren't an issue since I have her on a flight stand.
The second wave is up on Pulse. Only ordered Goblin Queen. I will pick up Magneto for a Joseph head if it goes on sale later on.
Just preordered several of the Wave 2 figures on BBTS.
They're available on Amazon as well.
Ordered them all except Cyclops.... couldn't pull the trigger when I have multiple figures of this same costume that work for me. Super eager for Goblin Queen and that Magneto costume. I like getting a new character like X-Cutioner, just wish the figure were a little better - he seems way too tiny. I couldn't resist a new Nightcrawler and this Jean gives me something a little different for that costume... I never opened the VHS Jean and now won't have to.
Curious to see a series 3 - Sunspot would be a given I would think. Beast should be in it - but do they make him a bigger figure? Do they recycle Mr. Sinister or ... give us a new one? Cable and Forge probably.... what about Val Cooper. I'm probably getting too ambitious. Any Wave 3 will probably include Wolverine or Logan.
