Head sculpt\face itself is fine. I just don't like his "generic modern hairstyle". His later dreadlocks look was cool. I guess you can just buy a Mezco Bishop figure instead.Â
The generic modern hairstyle is the thing I like most about it. 😆Â
The face sculpt work in this wave is stylistically inconsistent. Rogue's is very soft and cartoonish, Gambit's anime-ish with harder edges, Storm's more realistic, Bishop's inbetween realistic and stylized.
I hope the second X-Men 97 wave has Morph, Jubilee, and Cyclops without cel-shading.
They really should have shaded Magneto's eyebrows, he looks like the Cheshire Cat. And if there was ever a figure to release a better helmetless head on...
I pre-ordered Bishop, I like the new buck and accessories and in theory the head sculpt but now I’m kinda doubting it will fit with the rest of the display the more i’ve looked at the press pics.
No interest in the rest aside maaaaaybe Magneto (to kitbash) and Wolverine.
Rogue’s softened ‘97 features, hair and deco are a huge upgrade over the Target exclusive’s harsh mature makeup and stern face but clearly stylized from the new toon’s design and I don’t love that costume enough to buy it again in a green flight jacket/pinless.
Yea, Magneto is kinda disappointing with those orangutan arms. And the red gloves just seem like a random unnecessary change to the costume.
I’m down for Wolverine though. I haven’t had or liked any of Hasbro’s tiger-stripe suits before this one and would love to see the brown suit redone on this mold too. Maybe well see that for his anniversary next year?

That appears to be how he's colored in the show, or at least the little art we've seen. Love it or hate it, I do like it when Hasbro appears dedicated to matching the source material their work is based on.
Â
I have zero issue with Bishop's new head. I really like it, actually. I don't think it's inappropriate for the character or the time period.Â
I'm also really psyched that Rogue's boot details around the knees are part of the sculpt. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see awesome toy photography featuring either her Juggernaut wave or retro wave figure, and the photographer misses her boot details hanging loosely around her knees. Push the thigh one up, push the calf one down! If they still move around, just glue them! I look for it every time, and when it's messed up, it ruins the photo for me!Â
These all look great and feel like major improvement from the terrible VHS collection. I'll be getting them depending on my love for the cartoon. The only thing I don't super love is Storm's hair. I'm on the camp that prefers this looks with big long hair for her.Â
Anyway, can't wait for the next wave.Â
These feel half baked, like the original two Into the Spider-Verse figures that came out around the time of the first movie did.
The heads have an animated feel, but the bodies on some of these don't.
I ended up only POing Gambit and Wolverine since I like the colorways on both. Once I realized Magneto had red hands, I decided to stick with my Family Matters Mags.
Magneto's arms are definitely long. Straight on pics in package really show it. That's not even what bugs me most about him. It's the red hands. Might do some swapping if the colors match.
Yes, the hands are bugging me. I plan to swap them with Kang's or the boxset.

Nice to be getting another Bishop in the line, even if it is a bit more stylized.
I think most of these can fit into a comic display with a few tweaks here and there.
