Dwayne Turner was my first Wolverine artist and I still think he's arguably the best at portraying Logan's rage especially in a torn up suit. As a result I tend to prefer him in his 90s blue & gold suit with the absurdly large shoulder paldrons like Texiera and the Kuberts drew him. I love the way Jim Lee drew him, but it's always hairy little nutcase Wolverine with plenty of baggage to support his own series and rogue's gallery for me. Him running the Jean Grey school as a headmaster was such a neutering of the character in my opinion, considering that in the 90s the X-Men were basically covertly harboring a serial killer given how the government and outside world would see him. Sabretooth's captivity phase notwithstanding, I always liked that aspect of the school serving as a front for Xavier's mutant soldiers. Wolverine was loyal to the X-Men and in turn his "family" protected him from all the people that would want to take him back to his old life.
This cover is badass. I always loved art like these for Wolverine and characters like him. I don't know quite why, I just do.
My Wolverine and X-Men introduction is Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Ahh yes, who could forget the time when Wolverine's primary function was serving shish kabob via his claws?
Tiger stripe is my definitive Wolverine. I realize that was his original outfit, but as a kid, I saw his brown costume as the "old" one. He had that in X-Men 1, and then switched to the tiger-stripe outfit a couple of issues later, and he had that in the cartoon. And then the X-Men arcade game came out, and that had Cyclops and Storm in their older costumes, so I associated Wolverine's brown costume as his older costume.
Anyway, watching MCU Collector's review of Magneto, it looks like the shade of purple they used is noticeably different if you were thinking of swapping the hands. I guess the darker purple gloves would still look better than keeping them red, though.

I wonder how close the purple is to AoA Magneto
Same here. That’s how I like Wolverine to be portrayed as well.
That’s why X-Force Annual #1 is my all-time favorite, quintessential Wolverine story.
I think it perfectly utilizes Wolverine the way he should be. As the guy the X-Men send in to get sh*t done, no matter what it takes. The story and the art in this book nails the idea that Logan is the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice.
If you are a Wolverine fan, or X-Men fan in general, and you have not read this story, you owe it to yourself to do so. I’ve probably read it 5 times or more over the years. As a result I have also have a soft spot for Logan’s black and gray X-Force look.
I wish there were more Wolverine solo stories that were more like this book.
@ninjak I love that issue so much too. There are some really great Wolverine solo stories that compare to this one if you dig a bit on all the annuals and specials and such.
My introduction to Wolvie was from the Frank Miller mini, and I've been a huge fan ever since - but I will say the Byrne and Rucka runs stand out as the quintessential Wolverine solo stories to me in both writing and art.
At least based on that comparison photo, '97 Magneto's arms don't look out of proportion. Some of those promo shots made them look way too long. He looks fine, despite the red hands.
@tsi Yeah I'm going to agree with you on the Laura in blue/yellow "All New Wolverine" look and Logan in the modern tan/brown is my ideal combo. Gives them both a bit of their own visual identity with different colors but the suits have matching patterns (other than Logans not having the tiger stripe marks) so there's visual elements linking them.
My headcanon is Logan in brown and Laura in yellow. It's a great look for her.
As much as I don't want MORE Wolverine figures, I feel like this costume should be redone on a buck worthy of it - or made especially for it. That teen female buck has AWFUL articulation, and the paint on her thighs barely covers the blue. And she could use an expression.
Everyone's going to get mad when we get an X-Men 97 Madelyne Pryor but not the comic version.
Also yes the X-23 Wolverine figure is terrible and needs to be re-done on an adult body.

Except that she's tiny, and she should be even tinier than she typically is. Logan is 5' 3" and Laura is a clone of Logan, so the gender hormonal difference should subtract about 4 to 5 inches making Laura about 4' 10". Usually they say she's 5' 1" which bugs me, but at least they made her somewhat shorter than Logan. If they use an adult body she'll be way too tall.
