Oh and for the record....none of you are ever going to get me to dip my toes into the Krakoa era stuff. Seriously fuck that....I don't need it. That era took too many influences from the Battlestar Galactica reboot to even remoitely resemble the X-Men and I'm so glad its over.

Well now I'm going to have to dip MY toes deeper into the Krakoa era.  Comparing it to the Battlestar Galactica reboot has sold me on it.

I agree with stoopid sandwich about the busy nature of the astonishing costume, very much felt like different for different’s sake, and with Wolverine or Spider-Man it’s usually downstream of a business inclination to stimulate desire for variants of mostly the same so we double/triple/…  dip on action figures far more than any story-based reasoning for why a character would adopt a new look.

Iron Man is the noticeable prominent exception for me where most of the armours are functionally distinct as well as organically evolved aesthetic variations, but when I see people say they need a new Colossus because of a different shaped belt buckle or the shade of a colour used, I’m pretty much in the “happy for you if you want it but I don’t see it being a need” camp.

The reason I’m getting the Astonishing Wolverine is purely for the new articulation, I don’t even care about the costume, yellow rectangles on his gloves and boots or not, which is why I also skipped Hot Claws as superfluous to my collection since I’ve got a handful of variations of that body but it’s often one in/one out or added to a custom/trade pile.

The Astonishing costumes came at the tail end of the period dominated by movie-inspired black leather costumes, and the return of a core team of X-Men to superhero garb. When they debuted it was such a thrill to see the team back in looks that evoked their iconic costumes with slight updates/tweaks, and very much served a story purpose that made sense and followed from what came before. I definitely don't think of the original designs as being overly busy, and think they're actually pretty fantastic - the later redesigns are when they started adding a bunch of unnecessary piping, x-emblems, etc.

If you don't mind reading comics online, read the full Astonishing X-men here:

https://readcomic.me/comic/astonishing-x-men-2004/issue-1

The Giant Sized finale (after issue #24) wasn't on this link, so it's here:

https://readcomic.me/comic/giant-size-astonishing-x-men/issue-full/1

And yes, I just re-read 25 issues in the past day. I still consider this one of the best X-Men runs of all time. Right up there with the Phoenix saga. Come on, Hasbro, finish this team!! We also need Agent Brand, Ord, and an updated Danger.

Yes, yes, and YES. Hell, gimme Kavita Rao and Sydren while you're at it. Here's hoping we see more of the core team in the next few days!

For reasons I can't articulate, I like the Astonishing costume but hate the tiger-stripe costume. The brown costume is still king, though.

Sooo those two movie wolverine figures that were shown at the Legends panel...are those the last two 50th anniversary figures that were alluded to by Ryan and Dwight during Pulsecon last month?

I forgot how much I enjoyed the Astonishing run. Completely agree that the brown costume is king overall, but I think I like the Astonishing Wolverine (and Cyclops and Emma) cos they were clean, sharp callbacks from before the movie/leather inspired looks. Never quite warmed to house cat Beast but didn't hate it either. And we really do need a grown-up, X-Men Kitty, don't we. I love the X-Calibur figure but an Astonishing would be great. (And Agent Brand really feels overdue).

I have never been a big Deadpool fan but I kinda feel like I gotta honor Hugh's work and pick up at least the casual clothes figure.

So I know I said that the Astonishing Wolverine costume has never been one of my favorite looks but this figure has me hook line and sinker.I haven't been able to put it down in the last 10 days. God damnit hasbro you freaking devious little toy gurus. You made a sucker out of me in the best way possible.

@blackcomicnerd

After Hyperion got a redo, an updated Gladiator would have been nice

Yes, please, very much. HUGE Shi’Ar Gladiator fan here.

Bbts still has the Sabertooth 2 pack up in my orders as a preorder and keeps pushing back the release date. Any idea if some of them were delayed or does anyone know? Cause I know some places got them, but I don't remember how many, and I think they're still rather expensive on the aftermarket.

The must have only shipped in very limited batches because I've had mine in hand from BBTS since around St Patricks Day. In fact I've had these figures for so long I've managed to loose track of the extra hands and heads that came with them lol

Yes, agreed on the Wolverine 2-packs, I received mine from BBTS in late March. They likely have tried to order more but it likely won't be filled, but you never know. I put in a late order for Astonishing Wolverine AFTER they sold through their initial allocation but were still accepting pre-orders, but I know that I'll likely never see that figure. I've had several things like this in the past where they eventually cancel the order when it's clear they're not getting anymore, but it usually hangs out there for a very long time before they do that. I certainly wouldn't count on that pre-order for Sabes/Wolvie to be filled. It's generally not the retailers' fault by the way. They tend to put in an order and then get "allocated" with less than their full order these days since Hasbro and several other companies have really cut back on their production run quantities following years of over-production that led to so many figures ending up at places like Ollies, Ross, Big Lots, Kids Warehouse, bin stores, etc.

OK, so I just now received from BBTS my Wolverine/Spider-Man FF costume 2-pack and I have to say I like it more than I probably should.   There's something just a little silly about it that makes it super fun.

But, if I'm being honest it does kind of make me want to do a Hulk and Ghost Rider repainted in matching FF outfits -  I know that's not a real thing that happened in the comics -  when the 4 of those guys were the "new FF" they were just in their regular clothes or whatever -  but I think it would be really fun to get one of the cheap grey hulks from the Banner 2-pack and an extra Ghost Rider and paint them up to match these guys.
