Got a late evening delivery of Venom.  I can't recall ever getting a new figure with tacky paint.  It's only the upper portion on the front and back.  I can feel it on my fingers after touching it.  I would advise against licking your Venom figure and wash your hands after posing him.

My Venom figured turned out pretty solid, but I do agree he is rather gummy in areas.

He is replacing the Absorbing Man wave version...going to miss the green tongue slime/saliva.

My Walmart Venom seems fine.  None of the stickiness reported here and in some Youtube reviews, and I can't tell that any limbs are gummy.

Does seem like his body will be a backup to the 3-pack body though because of that surprisingly-awful neck.  Still worth it for that McFarlane head though.

If they're going to do this joint (and I do think it is superior to the hinged peg if they do it right) they need to either raise how deep the lower ball sits in the joint or just start adding another ball joint at the base of the neck. Either way, this joint does not have to be that hard to implement, but Hasbro sure makes it seem like it is.

My guess has long been that they bury the dumbbell so deeply to meet their own internal safety standards so that the dumbbell doesn't ever come out, in which case a kid could swallow it.  My Mafex neck dumbbell joints can come out fairly easily if I pull specifically on them.  I don't accept this as a reasonable excuse, but I do bet that's the reason they bury them so unfunctionally deep.  If that's the case then they really should just stop using them given that they're usually worse than neck hinges the way they end up having to implement them.

If that's their excuse then, yeah, it's a bad one. The optional hands and other small parts included with their figures are just as much a choking hazard as a double ball peg. My assumption is they really don't want that thing to pop out and make swapping heads frustrating. Which, again, plenty of other companies have figured it out so Hasbro should be able to as well.

I definitely feel like the barbell neck is a rare step back for Hasbro. The ROM is diminished and the cut in the back of the neck is a bit off-putting.

Looks like my Warlord Xavier is out for delivery. Look forward to pairing him with Lilandra, Gladiator, and Fang on the shelf.

Why... why do you guys tease me like this.   Why can't I ever log in at the right time to see this stuff.  She's definitely "Out of Stock" now...

I haven't opened Venom yet but my 3 pack had tacky paint and rubbery legs...shame to see some people having the same issue.  They make him too glossy, and I get how visually many people like that, but the plastic feels gross.  I'd much rather he be non-glossy and feel solid like Omega Red.  I'll likely keep him sealed or return him.

So, thank you-  one popped up "in store" at a store in the next county - about a 30 minute drive from here.  But,  I have to take my son to Volleyball practice about 2/3 of the way there today anyway, so I pulled the trigger.     Irritated it's this hard, but relieved I don't have to keep searching.

I got Retro Venom, I love it and I'm also a little frustrated by it. Happy to report that mine doesn't seem very gummy, which is good since my Animated Venom has REALLY gummy knees. That was my biggest worry.

That head articulation is just bad, though. Sometimes Hasbro feels like they know what they're doing with the new barbell joints. Comic War Machine has great range, Helmut Zemo has great range, movie Green Goblin has good range, and I even thought KiB/Movie Venom had workable enough range. This, though? Almost nothing. I carved up the back to get more movement and it is a huge improvement. Shouldn't have to do that, but glad I did.

I can definitely see them consciously making concessions on this one for the inevitable EVEN BETTER release. Going pinless is obvious. I honestly don't care about pins so that's no skin off my back. But maybe they'll give the next one toe joints or a more classic tongue lashing head in which case I'll probably bite. Still, I'm more than happy with this right now. Think it's my new favorite Venom. The proportions just feel closest to that ideal image I have in my head.

The worst thing about the Venom neck is that the torso it's attached to is a brand-new sculpt, so they're going to want to re-use it.  So we're likely to see this all-time-bad dumbbell neck again relatively soon.  I bet a figure or three has already been selected to use it with, and we'll be complaining about this with those figures as well.

This was brought up during interviews with them by someone this year--Shartimus I think since he and Anthony had a back-and-forth a few months ago about neck articulation with both posting stand-alone videos responding to each other about the subject.  Hopefully it's on their radar because with this sculpt it feels like they just gave up on neck articulation.

Geez.  Who do you believe on these reviews?

I'm honestly not hurting for a new Venom.  I'm using Marvel Select and while he doesn't check ALL the boxes, apparently no other Venom offering does either.  I've got the Walmart one but I haven't opened him.  Deciding whether to keep or sell.

I was so nervous going to pick up my Warbird.   It was literally the only one at this store and the only one available at any Target within 100 mile radius - if the online inventory system is to be believed.   And as I was driving to get it I had convinced myself that when I got there they were going to bring me out a return of a clumsy figure swap and I would leave disappointed.    But lo and behold it was the real deal and now after missing the pre-order and after checking at least 50 different Target stores all over this state I finally have this figure in hand.    And she's as good as people said.
