@thor-el Yes and no. It’s these little tiny balls that soak up water and expand until they look like crystal clear marbles. I filled the jar half way with those, stuck in the figure, then filled it with more balls to the top. Then I poured water in to fill the space in between all the balls and render it transparent. They hold some bubbles and the figure in place whereas plain water wouldn’t have. It was a huge pain in the ass to manage the little things because they’re slick and bounce all over the place, and then you can hardly pick them up! 😂
Man, Science is awesome.
Okay, that is EXTREMELY cool, @thwiptster !! Thanks for showing off the behind-the-scenes footage. I might need to look into finding those locally. I'm sure I could put them to use somewhere. LOL
@normdapito right!? I keep thinking of other fun things to use them for.
@thor-el I got them off amazon https://a.co/d/8WoKWQb
I used like, half the bag and ended up with a massive amount of volume. They absorb SO MUCH water and take forever to shrink back down even when laid out on a sheet. Left in a bowl or whatever and they insulate each other from evaporation. They’re crazy.
Poor Flint...
@thebluemarvel that is an excellent shot. Love all those figures. However, in my mind, and in my collection, I can no longer display the silver Silver Centurion with the white War Machine. Now that we have the white Silver Centurion, that's how I pair them, white and white, silver and silver. Just a weird idiosyncrasy I have.
@thwiptster took me a minute to figure out what was going on in that pic, but once I did, man, that's a heartbreaker.
@normdapito Thank you, Norm, but that is the gray deluxe War Machine. The lighting is making it appear white…

Well whaddaya know. I feel much better about your awesome photo!
@normdapito Thanks NORM. I worried it was a little generic, even with the props I was able to fit into the scene. In my mind, there would be a really cool silhouette cast by Matt’s shadow with devil horns, but I don’t have the first clue how to do that with practical effects and I don’t know anything about photoshop, so I just tried to make the scene as clear and dramatic as possible.

I'm no photographer, but what about a paper cutout to place between the light source and setting? I don't know what your angles are, but maybe that could work? I struggle with Photoshop myself, but I prefer seeing practical effects in toy photography anyway. That's always far more impressive to me.
Part of what might have confused me initially was seeing the Punisher head on the fallen figure. That's who I thought it was, but the additional details clued me in, and my heart literally dropped. Such a pivotal moment in Murdock's character's lore.

That would be a really smart way to do it! I also have no idea how to draw/cut out a convincing silhouette from paper. I swear I am at my artistic limit just trying to take a picture of the damn toys!
I hear you about the Punisher head. I tried to cheat it away from the camera, but I love that he comes pre-beaten just like Battlin’ Jack would have. I don’t really have a ton of generic heads at my disposal so I just hope for a little suspension of disbelief.
I am surprised it had such an impact! My unofficial theme for January was “beginnings,” so I tried to capture what I thought were the most pivotal moments in the origins of the characters. I’ve seen a bunch of interpretations of different origins recreated in figure form, but the death of Jack Murdock doesn’t seem very common, so I gave it a shot. Thanks for the feedback and fun discussion!
I like that blind Mattie Murdock paints his nails. 🙂 Respect for a great use of parts!
