During an interview at SDCC when responding to the question 'are there were any more waves coming out this year', Dwight enthusiastically said "YES" and mentioned the "epic" BAF.
MCUCollector24 didn't just ask Dwight about this year. Skip to the 5:50 mark in the video below and you'll hear his question. He worded it as "So we didn't see a build-a-figure wave reveal during the panel. Are we still going to see some build-a-figure waves, uh, 2024? 2025? And moving forward?" That's when Dwight responds "You're about to see one of the most epic build-a-figures we've done in years."
… and the most epic BAF is …. Venomized Wolverine!! Dwight’s fav Wolverine.
Venomised PunisherPoolerine (Spirit of Vengeance). Get all the gnarly antiheroes in there and watch it fly off the shelves…
The uncertainty about the release date sounds like someone afraid to commit to a date lest it be missed and the quarterly report is suddenly over or under significantly from what it should be. Corporations at their best.
? They're not sure when it will ship yet, and it would be foolish to throw out a date they can't stand by. I've seen Dan get accused of being a "liar" and "gaslighting" fans and all sorts of other nonsense over the most innocuous comments, so I 100% understand why he's careful about not committing to plans that haven't been set yet.
I guess as a BAF wave that is probably only Fan Channel and maybe Amazon could be a lot more fluid on the pre-order date/shipping dates than a brick-and-mortar store that would want release dates locked in. Assuming this "epic" BAF wave follows suit with Void, Zabu and Blackheart and is Fan Channel.
There is quite a discrepancy between Dwight and Dan on this. During an interview at SDCC when responding to the question 'are there were any more waves coming out this year', Dwight enthusiastically said "YES" and mentioned the "epic" BAF. Dan in recent interviews has said "maybe late 2004 or early 2005".
It's August. I would think a major company like Hasbro that deals with deadlines, contracts and release dates all the time would have things a little more solid, especially for a comic-based wave that won't get bumped at this time because of a film release delay. Nothing film-wise is happening between now and the end of 2024, so there is no reason this wave would be delayed.
I think this wave will be revealed during Pulse Con. Maybe Dan means he's unclear if the wave will be available for pre-order or shipped late 2024/early 2025.
Since this is in both their wheelhouses, it's gotta be Spidey or X-Men, or at least the BAF is. It doesn't mean the whole wave is. It could be another composite wave like Zabu.
I'm solidly guessing a classic Spider-Slayer.
all this tells me is either it will be in Dec or January... there's almost always a wave coming out in those months anyway... and it just sounds like he doesn't want to give an answer he can't exactly answer, as their may be alot of factors
Dan loves to temper expectations because if things aren't exactly on point or as once stated, he's the one out of the 3 of them that gets the heat of it all on social media.
I think this is also why hasbro has set release dates, almost always a month or 2 later than an actual release... that way they're not attacked online for anything coming in late.
Imagine being mad an action figure came out 6 weeks later than you first imagined. Dear god how do these people get thru life.
@derrabbi I've always often wondered this. As if getting something weeks after you expect to will somehow diminish the thing once it's actually in your hands. Never understood how people got bent out of shape about this.
I suppose on one hand, it's good to know when certain things may actually hit your bank account - but if a figure or a few figures coming out unexpectedly is enough to put your account in peril... might be time to reconsider the hobby.
What's funny is I've seen people complain about figures coming out earlier than the release date too. I mean, I get it, if you have a tight budget, but personally I wouldn't preorder anything I knew I couldn't afford at the time of placing the PO. Anyway, yes, there are real problems many of us are dealing with and early/late release of figures ain't one of them.

People deserve their joys in life, even if they don't come easily. I'll never understand people sitting back and telling someone they shouldn't be into a hobby because they don't have piles of disposable income to toss at it. There were times where I struggled to buy this stuff but when it showed up it made for a really happy day and a brief respite from all the other stress. Thankfully those days are behind me but I would never judge someone for wanting something that makes them happy.

IRK? the internet is so entitled and unhinged

I am actually usually more annoyed about the figures coming in early than coming in late - simply from an account management standpoint - it's easy to say "just set the money aside when you order and you never have to worry" but not always super realistic in a world where some pre-orders are three months away, some are nine months away and some are 18 months away.
I try to budget a certain amount per month for my action figure habit and I try to stick to it. When product shows up two months earlier than expected - and lands on top of other product that shows up that same month - when expected - it throws off the calculus. That's all. It's not the end of the world and I don't order things I can't afford - but it can be annoying.
I solve for that with Hasbro now by always assuming the product will come in 60 days earlier than they indicate. That's still sometimes not enough - but is usually pretty good. Also I now budget for Hasbro for three enormous product dumps a year where Legends and GI Joe have waves and deluxe product that all drop within one single short time frame.
@justice Would never judge someone for doing something that makes them happy, but be a little concerned about the Ouroboros of stressing over money constantly which would make the times outside of the pockets of joy when you get something new even worse. And then for it to cause even more anxiety/anger/stress when something comes too early or too late. That's a lot to take on for a hobby with only pockets of happiness when something new finally does arrive. No judgment at all of the behavior, just an awareness that there will be more negativity than joy as a result.

honestly, this is just why I pre-order and not wait for sales. I get it, you can get alot of this stuff cheaper if you wait, but that feeling of constantly being behind is also going to add to the fact you feel inundated with figures hitting at once. And for that, it is indeed nice to know when money is going out... I can see the argument for those who collect multiple lines and one company is on time, and the other is 2 months early... with both hitting the same time. That's tough
I know for me personally Ive worked a few ways around this to curb things incase that happens. The biggest being Amazon pre-orders combined with the FETCH app... For those that don't know, Fetch is an app for scanning your receipts, you get at least 25pts for every receipt, but much larger bonus points if you buy certain products that are currently partnering with Fetch, they also have games you can play that gives you points per task or per minute (in my case, I just put my screen on lock while im asleep and it counts towards the minutes played.. and i wake up to a couple hundred+ points a day.
You can cash in your points for gift cards to target or amazon, etc... and i just slowly pay off the pre-orders with amazon before the release. In about a year and a half, ive cashed in around $400 in amazon gift cards... currently have most of the anniversary wave figures paid off (or heavily dented) and working on the Strange Tales wave now.
You can also just go buy yourself an amazon gift card and whittle away at it by creating your own installment pay to help ease the risk of alot hitting at once.
