They coulda done Wolverine: Lord of the Vampires, and all they would have need to have sculpted would have been a new cloak. There is literally a fang-bearing unmasked Logan head that would just have needed repainting.
I’m just sayin’.
Someone else suggested it, but Hellverine could have come with a normal head and claws. Certainly, he would sell better. Granted, some people will buy each and every Wolverine made though, so I'm sure this version will sell. I'm assuming a normal brown costume Wolverine will be in the next X-Men 97 wave, though.
I know we can all nitpick and second guess Hasbro's decisions, but Brother Voodoo being released this many times in the same exact costume is just downright baffling. Maybe making him in a different costume would cost more due to development, but this is a different body than the last one and has new parts. So...it just doesn't make sense. This isn't like a classic Spider-Man look. Make some different looks for the character and maybe he'll sell better.

Totally agree. I'd have snapped up a classic Jericho Drumm:

That would have been a great choice for a Wolverine variant. Maaayyybbeee that is the Wolverine Dan is saying is his favourite version still not revealed? (I know it is more likely just the regular brown suit Wolverine)
Oh and just a snippet of comic spoilers.......but the current Hellverine is actually Daken. That makes it even better right? Ok I'll show myself out.
As you were folks.
So Whiplash boots and cape painted get us to a classicish Damien Hellstrom?
So Whiplash boots and cape painted get us to a better Damien Hellstrom?
I hadn’t even thought of that. Those parts are perfect.
C’mon, we all know this is the “Wolvie” Dan had in mind:
COVID has me fever dreaming and waking up at odd hours making me question what is reality. This wave hasn't helped clarify things.
The livestream happened as I was on my way to work, so I didn't get a chance to see these until I got to my desk. I didn't get a chance to see the reaction until now. I'm surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative response to these because I thought it was a pretty cool wave, though there was almost no chance that I purchased anything from a "Strange Tales" wave from the get-go. I love horror movies and Swamp Thing, Constantine, and co., but I don't love Marvel horror.
I'm more familiar with Brother Voodoo the action figure than Brother Voodoo the character. I love that design, but I agree it probably didn't need to happen for a third time. Armored Drac is cool. It's something I'd consider picking up for a D&D custom. Hellstrom got a chuckle out of me. I distinctly remember Ryan alluding to the fact that the Ghost Rider HasLab would be our only shot at the stretch goal figures. I hope Mephisto is next.
Moon Knight looks good, but I don't care for him or WCA. While Blackheart is another standout figure, I don't think a remake was ever high on anyone's list.
There are some cool figures here, but I get why folks are disappointed.
-If I recall correctly in a 2023 SDCC conversation that somebody posted, Dwight said he pitched modern Dracula but was turned down. Yeah, right. Dracula was probably already in the sculpting phase. The question is - where was Dracula really supposed to go instead of this wave?
I'm going to have to go back and look at my con report from last year but this is what I remember: I asked Dwight about Marvel's bronze age horror characters because I want them as figures very, very badly. He said it would be more likely that they would make the modern versions of those characters first. In fact, he even did a digital render of armored Dracula to show the bosses. He said classic versions can still happen but they need to be cleared by legal first. He did not come out and say what the problem was but he didn't have to. It's easy to figure out. It's Universal. It's true that Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Mummy are all in the public domain BUT ... Universal owns the likeness rights to the Bela Lugosi Drac, the Boris Karloff monster and the Lon Chaney Wolfman. If, for example, someone makes a Dracula figure that too closely resembles Bela, a lawyer for Universal may get twitchy fingers and fire off one of those pesky "cease and desist" letters. Companies hate getting those.
Now, to my knowledge, no one at Hasbro, Disney or Marvel has ever, ever said that they'll NEVER make classic versions of the 70's horror characters. They may have to jump through a couple of more hoops, but it can still happen. I think they guys at Hasbro know there's a pretty big fan base for this stuff. They read these boards.
I can't remember the exact conversation I had with the guys about classic Son of Satan but I know they said he was problematic. But there are ways around that, too. Firstly, don't call him "Son of Satan". Secondly, fan channel or Pulse exclusive. Boom. We are getting a modern Hellstrom figure and I saw the pentagram (Or five sided star if the word "pentagram" makes the faint of heart faint). That gives me hope that we will get a classic Damion and the Steve Gerber era of the Defenders will be completed someday.
Along these lines, no one at Hasbro ever said we're NEVER going to get Golden Age and we're NEVER going to get Western characters, either. In fact, it was very nearly the opposite. Last year Dwight pitched a Western set that was going to include Two Gun Kid, Red Wolf, Kid Colt, a modern Gail Simone created character called Outlaw and someone else. I forgot who. Oh, and also a horse. But the rest of the team nixed the idea. "Horses are expensive". Well, okay. Fine. Let's do a Go Fund Me for the damn horse and get it done. And we almost got an Invaders set. Yes. The World War Two era Invaders. Real close. But ... there was a Black Panther movie coming out that was going to feature Namor. Some of the higher ups at either Hasbro or Marvel decided that was going to be too much Sub-Mariner in too short a time so the Invaders set turned into the West Coast Avengers set. Rats.
But ... to me, it's a good sign that the horror characters, the western characters and the Golden Age characters have been considered. That means they're on the radar. That means that Hasbro thinks they're viable. And that means we more than likely WILL get them at some point. Don't know when. But how long did it take to get a classic Dr. Strange? Power Man? Iron Fist? But we got them. One thing I've learned with this line: You MUST play the long game. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Now that you're read all this (And God Help You) I want you to pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage, relax in your easy chair, and dream dreams of future reveals. We have this Comic Con thingie coming up in just over a month. A bunch of us Fwooshers are going to be there. The Harbro Legends team are easy to talk to and fun to be around. They will answer questions as they always do.
It's gonna be fine, peeps. Hang in there.

The boots are a good shout. I did wonder about Red Widow’s cape, as it has a bit of a collar and the colour. Plus it gives me a small incentive to get Widow, other than a cat’s leg.
I’m a bit wary of kitbashing Legends these days though, as they have no compunction about going back and revisiting the characters properly themselves.

Thanks for this SDC - always appreciate these reports from your convos with the team.
The Invaders set I remember you mentioning, but the Western set is news to me - and it sounds incredible! Two Gun, Red Wolf, Kid Colt, and Outlaw (from Agent X - awesome book) plus a horse?! I'm sure they've seen it a hundred times here and elsewhere, but there's at least half a dozen easy releases they could get out of a well made horse body if they invested in it. Of course, the question is cost, and how many times would we the consumers pay that cost to buy it multiple times?
Seeing Daimon here only makes me happy. 1) New character 2) pentagram 3) If he can get made in this look then the classic is 100% in-play. It will happen eventually.
Didn't want a single figure until the BAF was revealed. I knew that's how it was going to happen. 😫
The Bandai Ground Rise effect was MADE for Blackheart. Really great for duplicating several of the spells he uses in Marvel vs. Capcom.
