Eh, we'll see. I would've said the same about Mantis, Adam Warlock, Nebula, etc. And yet.

M'baku, Skurge, Attuma, Heimdall, Warriors Three, and on and on and on...

This thread is reminding me that I have been waiting for that “classic to follow modern” version of Satana “Judith Chambers” Hellstrom for ELEVEN YEARS now.

We haven’t gotten a classic Ghost either. Even after the character appeared in the MCU.

And no comic Mandarin despite him being featured in two movies (sort of…).

@jroug I haven’t seen any reliable outlet reporting on Moon Knight or Brother Voodoo being in the new Captain America movie, other than some early speculation that was who Giancarlo Esposito would be playing (it’s not). So I doubt that had anything to do with it. The most obvious answer here is they realized this was a wave of mostly obscure characters and put in Moon Knight because he’s a B-lister and could be mostly done with reuse.

Aside from Brother Voodoo, this wave makes me optimistic that we'll get everything you posted! No reason they can't do the classic Son of Satan if they're making this other version, and this fits with the MO of other releases - a more modern version first, and the classic next. Colan Dracula is hopefully similar, with no hangups or issues using the Dracula name, and nothing holding them back from the Colan version. That Lilith is a different character, but seems like she could be made just as easily as the other one.

Agreed.  I think it's just a matter of time.

Brother Voodoo is the biggest headscratcher of the wave (and in quite a while, in my opinion). Three releases of the same costume is two more than I ever imagined he'd get - so when will they get around to that classic look?

That's on my list of SDCC questions.

Stay tuned and stuff.

@akajomiha You're probably not wrong about the "deep discount" but I'll just play devil's advocate and point out that we know Hasbro is intentionally under-producing what they think will sell now because so much of their product went to those deep discount prices over the past few years. I think that the company was genuinely embarrassed by the Ollies and Ross stuff. I do believe that there will be quite a few items in the near future that if you don't pre-order them, you won't find them... especially these waves that are "fan channel" only and never intended for traditional retail shelves. We've also seen pre-orders sell out really fast on some select stuff already.

Nerdzoic did a YouTube channel video not too long ago about how Hasbro, McFarlane and other are starting to "allocate" and not fill full orders for the online retailers anymore. So someplace like his store might order 200 copies of a figures but only end up getting 75 now. We saw the Target Carnage and Warbird both sell out in minutes, but I still expect that more of those will become available in store. Astonishing Wolverine is another one that I believe is pre-order sold out most places.

I don't know if they're "embarrassed" persay. Certainly not "proud" either, but Hasbro already got the money for these figures from retail, so it doesn't really hurt them when things go to the bargain bin.

That being said, i think we're seeing a shift in how Legends operates. Things have really shifted into big box retail only getting the most "mass appeal" stuff, which right now has been MCU and anything "retro" or "Vintage" vibed with the retro cards. Adult males just surpassed kids recently as the absolute #1 buyer of toys and companies have very much shifted into being quite aware of this "new" target demographic. The problem with this with comic legends... is it's a niche group that keeps getting smaller by being more and more niche.

Millennials are currently leading the pack, followed by Gen X. We were the generations that grew up with all this stuff marketed at us, and while the comic and cartoon exposure continues to dwindle for Gen Z and Gen Alpha (the sales are down, there's never been a great library of animated stuff for those demographics, and even recently with X-men 97 it was clearly geared toward those who watched the 90s show and didn't really invest a whole lot into caring about gaining a new audience. (Though, i'd imagine the biggest new audience for the property probably was Gen Z) Either way.. my point is with no new exposure, and most of Gen Z and Gen Alpha only being familiar with marvel via MCU and D+ they're not going to want the Zabu wave, void wave or the Strange Tales wave.. Notice too these  last 3 comic baf waves have mostly all shifted to online retail only. And i have to hand it to hasbro for that, they're not going to visually clog pegs, they're able to spit out even more niche characters for long time collectors but still put out some for newer collectors. While retail gets the familiar MCU and "classic vintage" appeal of retro cards.

I'm honestly expecting the Blade project to be outright cancelled soon. It's rumored that the main actor, Mahershala Ali has gotten tired of waiting and has agreed to join the Jurassic Park/World reboot in a key role which would make him contractually unavailable for the MCU Blade movie for quite some time (years). From what I've seen online that will likely be announced very soon, possibly as soon as this week. No one can blame the guy. He's basically had to block off his schedule for the past 5 years since this project was first announced and not be free for anything else - at some point it had to be expected he would just want to get back to work and make some money. Whether you want to blame the writers/actors strikes, Marvel Studios or whomever, it's hard to fault the actor for wanting to finally just move on.

Actually, insiders have said Ali is actually the problem, he's got final say on all the scripts and wants this film to be his "black panther" ... and that's just not going to happen with blade, a film that focuses on one man, not a nation and a culture. It won't get that sort of phenomenon.

I can't even tell you how happy I am that we are getting Blackheart.  It's a stupid level of happiness.  I have always wanted Blackheart.

I remember a comic I read when I was young that was like Wolverine, The Punisher, and Ghost Rider against Blackheart (Heart of Darkness?) and it continued from there.  But I always loved those comics as a kid and it's crazy that this year we will get both Ketch Ghost Rider and Blackheart.

I wish they would continue doing Strange Tales Waves.  I saw your lists spideyboy1111 and I'd be up for all of those.

@spideyboy1111 I actually don't doubt that to be true, but it has also been said that the only reason that Marvel was so keen on a doing a Blade reboot in the first place was because Ali came to them and pitched it.

Alright, so I've come to the decision that I want the whole wave except Hellverine, Moon Knight, or Brother Voodoo. So I'll need two BAF pieces from them.

To be fair Ali is a fairly brilliant actor. I can see wanting to work with him regardless of most circumstances. Also Blade doesn't scream to be that connected to the MCU that much. So other than Ali getting older if it takes 3 more years does it really matter. Make it good ... oh and make a FA Blade in his green pants and leather jacket.

The original script idea for blade seemed to share focus on a daughter for blade, as well as black knight. I hope they ditched the daughter concept as we have enough of that in the MCU anyway.  But i'd keep black knight in it at least as a small role. It sounds like marvel really wants to set up Midnight Sons, which i'm most excited for. The inclusion of Lilith Daughter of dracula worries me some, id much rather they set up Lillith Mother of Monsters to take us into her being the big bad for the midnight sons first film. She's more interesting, and a grander threat imo.

The problem with Ali getting final say is his expectations and the fact he's not a producer and really isn't use to this position (thus his expectations might be too high). I think ultimately he needs to compromise.

I just don't personally think Blade is complex enough to warrant a 7 year wait. We're talking about a character who didn't even have his own comic until his first film, and who's previous major run was Tomb of dracula who's lead was dracula himself. And vampires have been done to death in media. So bring in some creepy uber vamps, give him a decent supporting cast, and pave the road to dracula for him, while also setting up Midnight Sons for the even bigger threats (Lillith, Mephisto, etc)

Heh yep, I’m a huger-than-huge Blade fan and also prefer “elevated” films to popcorn fare, but I don’t think the two mix on this situation. Beyond getting an auteur director like Del Toro to work a cool vision, I don’t think Blade works as an “art film of cultural significance”. Like keep it intense and serious, none of those dorky old-school MCU yuk-yuk quips and general grab-ass, but just let Blade be Blade, have a solid script with a good story, kill a bunch of vampires and set up Dracula as a major threat for later. That’s about it, I’d say. Like make that GOOD, but just do that.

Edit: oh but Blade DOES need to fight ACTUAL VAMPIRES. I love the Midnight Sons as much as anyone, but Blade is a VAMPIRE HUNTER. If they want to team him up with other guys for a supernatural slugfest with the *other* Lilith in a MidSons movie, fine, but for his own solo stuff it needs to be vampires he is fighting.
