As someone who collects both lines, I cannot tell you how much I hate the goddamn chase variants and platinum crap. People rightfully take Hasbro to task for quickly recycling recent figures into repaints or slight retools to make a new costume or character, but if it’s an actual look I want then I prefer that vs. making it a limited edition exclusive I may never actually see. Alternatively, ordering a figure online just to get a gold, silver or bronze version nobody wants is extremely annoying.
McF "blind box" online orders is pretty good will breaking. One thing to have alt versions that are lower in number; another thing to not get what you order.
I'm just PO'ing Moon Knight, but will definitely track the rest of the wave through Keepa and grab them on the cheap eventually to build Blackheart. I can't imagine this wave doesn't go deep discount at some point.
I know people are saying "smaller product run and fewer retailers will mean people miss out" but honestly which of these characters from this wave are likely to sell out? When you have AOA Wolverine, an arguably more notable version than FlameDome Wolverine, selling for $7-$9 most places about a year after he was released, I don't know that deep cut variants of beloved characters are gonna be sellouts.
Exactly. I PO'ed MK and Bloodstorm and will wait for the others to go on clearance. And even if we're wrong, I can live without Blackheart. It's a win/win for me to wait this time.
Blackheart is absolutely, positively not optional for me. Love that Toy Biz version, but this one is a clear upgrade.
like others a bit disappointed that we didn't get at least a few weirder offerings from the bronze age, but as has been said its clear this wave was meant to get out some of the figures meant to go with the Haslab that didn't fund, then throw in a few more well known characters via Moon Knight and the Storm and Logan horror variants. Brother Voodoo is the puzzling choice to me, i get that its on a newer buck but i dunno that anyone was THAT dissatisfied with the prior version(s).
That's OK, skipping this wave but there are still plenty of other figures on my to-get list.
Oh definitely. Such fond memories of that game. I’m considering finding some cheap goblin/gremlin toys to pose around him to duplicate that hard attack.
Now if they could just figure out Shuma Gorath (or the rights thereof), I could finally have the Marvel Super Heroes line-up I’ve always wanted…

The only thing I can think of with the scarcity baiting model is that maybe if you under produce a few things, people that are interested ask retailers about it more and more - and if enough of that happens the retailers reengage and order a little more, and sales can start to creep back up and you can grab a few more of those opportunity customers again.
I think any specialty retailer with a passing familiarity of the characters/universe and collecting community knows this wave is destined to not sell as well as other waves and would therefore buy even less. Hasbro can't serve up a wave like this and expect sales to increase. Sure, it's got a Wolverine. But shrug. So does every wave this year.
Re: the above Blackheart images - is that his most famous look? The figure definitely skipped leg day.

I own and had read that first issue of Daredevil he was in, but I didn't remember the character at all until he appeared in the Capcom fighting games. So my guess is that yes, the way he appears in the game is his most famous look.
But he was also in the first Ghost Rider movie so maybe this look is more famous? I doubt it. 😎
Ngl i really still like the old Toy Biz Blackheart. And I don't want enough of these to build him. Storm as a Vampire is a cool concept, as is Ghost Rider Wolverine. But I can wait for a sale or do without. Dracula is probably the only one I'll consider paying full price for.

Considering, this scene was literally a second or two of film, I doubt it. I think the video game did more for his exposure in the general market than the GR film. More kids played the arcade game, and would likely recognize him from there.
I stopped being a completist pre-pandemic, but except for MCU waves, I've always pre-ordered at least two or thre figures from every wave. Because I love the Marvel Monsters, I was really really looking forward to this wave, and I'm happy for everyone who is getting something they want in this wave - and sorry for all of you who are buying a set only to get the BAF.
For me, it's the first comic wave I will not pre-order anything from. I'm shocked that they're doing a THIRD Dr Voodoo figure but have yet to do a classic version. Is it a law that there must be a Moon Knight ML every year - even though they've yet to do a comic version of him in a suit, despite it being an easy re-use? The Hellstrom is disappointing, but Dracula? C'mon. The average person won't even recognize that as Dracula.
Whole wave stinks of a Disney agenda gone awry - I can't imagine Hasbro wanted any of this. It is easily the most unsaleable non-movie wave they've ever released and if I'm being really cynical, a set-up to stop doing BAFs entirely.
That said, for the two figures I MIGHT buy, I can wait for loose sales on eBay, where I expect the non-BAF figures to be plentiful and inexpensive no matter how low the production run is (I'm not interested in Blackheart myself).
Dwight said he'd been wanting to make Dracula in this look for a long time, so there's definitely at least one character Hasbro did want. Not sure about this being a "Disney agenda" wave, as I don't see anything that would obviously be getting a marketing push right now. Lilith, Son of Satan, Dr. Voodoo (again) and Blackheart don't strike me as high on Disney's "please make toys" list.
