Parker/Smythe arrived and I’m impressed by how nice both figures are. I’m glad I waited for a discount, but even at full price, I think I’d be quite satisfied. Parker is really nice, pretty close to what I remember from the show. I’ll admit I was not an avid watcher. I like that the camera has lots of painted details, and I love the flesh colored thwipp hands, been wanting a pair of those for so long.
Now Smythe, what’s his story? Is he some kind of mer-person? The things on his appendages look very much like fish fins to me. Not sure what the shoulder spikes are supposed to be. I barely remember him from the show being anything more than a foil, but I don’t know anything about his back story. He’s pretty nice for a figure though, with nearly an entirely unique sculpt.
Alistaire Smythe is the son of Spencer Smythe, the original creator of the Spider-Slayers. In the "Invasion of the Spider-Slayers" story in Amazing Spider-Man 368-373 it was shown that Alistaire had cybernetically enhanced himself to become a Spider-Slayer.
This was a helpful refresher on comic Smythe for me, including the various looks he's gone through over the years: https://that90sspidermanshow.home.blog/2021/02/23/alistair-smythes-comic-origins/
I just opened up the Peter/Smythe 2-pack. I only really picked this set up for Smythe since it closely matches one of his comic looks, but I'm really impressed with the Peter figure! I love the cartoon styling of it, the paint, and they nailed the head. It's a very solid figure that serves as a reminder that Hasbro can make even very simple figures exceptionally when they nail it. Proper thoracic articulation and double elbows are the only things I would have liked to see - maybe also swappable web shooters to make his extra hands make sense.
It's got me considering picking up the rest of the animated series figures they have in the works, especially since it looks like they might keep it going for a while. At the very least Ock/May and Goblin/MJ...
Got the Peter/Smythe two pick today and dang is Peter an awesome figure. Near perfect really. The jeans having that suit pants pointed crease is really my only nit to pick with it. Simple but wonderfully executed.
Yeah, it's weird. I really thought the highlight of the set would be Smythe since he's got so much unique stuff going on. But Peter is really where it's at for me. I think it's the best Peter Parker we've gotten.
Dan Yun posted an in-hand look at Hydro... and he's got spraypainted man boobs. Maybe it's bad lighting, but those little bits of spray they added kinda kill it for me. I can now see them in the promo photos that I never noticed them before, but... eh. I do like the spray on the water boot pieces.
Real Quick, has anybody tried swapping Smythe's fist-hands for Morlun's grabby-ones? Do the skin-tones match?? I Must Know lol!!
Daredevil & Hydro-Man pack now have an updated release date of March 18th. Looks like it was pushed up from May 1st.
...Did anyone ever manage to plug in the Animated Doc Ock tentacles into the comic-version ports? Is there a certain trick lol?

Hasbro is killing me right now.
So did anyone's 2-pack ship or have their credit cards charge yesterday? I was hoping these packs would ship before the weekend. Feels like there was such an up-swell of activity last Wednesday that I didn't think it would take longer than 48 hours for these figures to get out the door.

That sounds extreme, but his motivation to use the cybernetics was because he had become paralyzed from the waist down. Don't remember how that happened, but I think he blamed Spider-Man for it.
I was just charged for the Daredevil & Hydro-man late last night. Should get a shipping notice later today

Yes. The pegs are slightly smaller IIRC, so they won't stay as is.
You could try to coat the pegs in something to thicken them up, or put something in the ports to close in the holes more.
