@mr-potatohead Gives the phrase "Spiderman Homecoming" a whole new meaning.Β 😜Β
Tobey Maguire is easily my least favorite of the actors who've played Spider-Man. I like the first two Raimi movies more than the entire Amazing franchise though. I thought those were the weakest of the franchises, though I loved the performances of and chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Tom Holland is far and away my favorite Spider-Man actor, and the "Home" trilogy is the most entertaining and consistent in terms of quality. I think they'd still be good if they didn't tie into the overall MCU, but the fact that it does tie in doesn't hurt! But what I'll never get over what No Way Home did to tie them all together and really redeem the other two franchises for me. The Home trilogy owes plenty to what came before, but those franchises owe just as much to the Home trilogy.
I can agree with all that, yeah. While I don't really like Raimi's style (except the Evil Dead movies), the plots are really straight forward while the ASM movies are messy. ASM2 is REAL messy. I did appreciate the style of ASM, and like you said the performances were fantastic. The pair of them deserved a better movie. I would also praise Rhys Ifans. And I suspect one of the notes Sony gave Webb for ASM2 was 'make it more like the Raimi movies', and added some cheese with Giamatti and Foxx's portrayals. But yeah, Holland has more charisma than Maguire and a ton of heart. They struck a sweet balance with good plot, performances, and also just fun, then kicked the heartstrings a bit here and there.

I suspect that could have been one of their notes to Webb.Β The other notes being to cram in as many villains as possible to set up our Sinister Six franchise, and make sure to do the Gwen Stacey death.Β ASM2 was such a mess that I never revisited it.Β They wanted to cram too much in.Β I liked the Peter Gwen chemistry as much as anyone else and I wanted to see that continue.Β I feel they were in such a rush to do the Gwen death that they didn't stop to think if they should.
I like the first two Rami movies because it felt like they were doing their own thing.Β They were so early in the superhero movie franchise that they weren't trying to world build or cross over or fit in with umpteen other movies or TV shows.Β They were just their own story.Β Like ASM2, I never revisited Spider-Man 3 because, again, it felt like they were just trying to cram too much in for the sake of cramming it in.Β Movies like that just turn into a mess, IMO, and my desire to rewatch it takes a nose dive.
I would have to say the Home trilogy was my favorite of the Spidey movies as well.Β They absolutely stuck the landing by not only wrapping up MCU Spidey's story nicely, but the other two Spidey's as well.Β Good on them.

I do hope IF Holland is really done, they make that decision quickly, recast and start from where the character left off in NWH. I don't want another reboot, but now would be a natural point to recast.
I don't want to lose Tom yet, but they kinda need to make up their minds ASAP.
@schizm is that the current rumor, that Holland is done? He and Feige make it sound like it's in the works but I know Hollywood isn't the place for definitive answers.
I really hope Holland sticks around. Heβs still young and ripe for the part. And the MCU could use the continuity. He should be the flagship character!
I agree. I'm into some of the new characters, and ready for others to come (including Miles and Gwen) but would like Holland to make some more appearances.
I have no idea about the rumors - I stay away from that stuff. But from the dragging of their feet on any future announcement - which got elongated and altered by the two strikes and the MCU's woes - and now Holland saying IF there's a story, he'd love to do another (it's not an if question, it's a which one question) - he's either advocating for a huge pay raise to sign on again or he's seriously considering walking away. But I thought the rumor was he was already signed, so this could all be nonsense.
Either way, I don't like the lack of momentum, and the lack of movement only ages him out. I don't want him to leave, I just want them to get going.
Yeah I'm not sure, and while I do read a lot of rumors, I tend to not retain them since so many turn out to not be true. But I know supposedly Feige said Spider-Man 4 is in the works, Holland said they're in tells, someone said it's coming next year, and supposedly he is lined up for the next two Avengers. But yeah, all the stutter stops since 2019 have been intolerable, and I blame that for the drop in quality over superhero fatigue but that may just be for me heh.
My understanding is that Holland is open to doing another but he wants to be sure it's a strong story (I'm paraphrasing that).Β I'm open to recasting any character but Marvel typically seems wishy washy when it comes to that (Rhody and Bruce Banner-yes, Black Panther and Kang-no).Β I guess in this case though I would prefer they don't recast.Β My main gripe with the comic Spidey is that he is only allowed to grow *so* much.Β They'll reluctantly allow him to graduate college, but you'll never see him over 30 or with a growing family unless it's some limited series offshoot title.Β He'll always be worried about an old aunt or who is next super-hot girlfriend is going to be, never about a wife or child.Β If you stick with a live actor for multiple years, then they're kind of forced to do it.Β Β

The best superhero films have one thing in common--they compellingly explore the nature of why people choose to be or not to be a hero or a villain.Β The first two Raimi films are a master class in this, with the second one being entirely centered upon it taking its premise from Amazing Spider-Man #50 shown below and doing the theme better than any other superhero film made to date.Β But all of the master superhero films do it in some varying way--Dark Knight (Bale almost gives up being Batman until Harvey Dent forces him to reconsider), Batman Begins (origin story), Dark Knight Rises (Batman is retired but Bane compels him to return), Logan (he rediscovers being a hero after giving it up for years), Iron Man (origin story), Infinity War (Thanos is the villain of the story but believably thinks he's the hero in a way that even the viewer could possibly get behind), No Way Home (Peter gives up his whole life to be a hero), etc.

Yeah, no way Holland is done with the role. He said he's interested in a 4th, as long as the story is there. I know he was taking a year off acting just to catch a little break, but I'm sure they'll get back into it soon. Especially with the Damage Control mode they're probably in right now regarding the reaction to phase 4 and Kang and all that, they'll need to bring out one of their heavy-hitters soon, and Spidey always makes guaranteed bank- not to mention Tom Holland is one of the biggest stars in the world right now, so he can probably have at least a little say in matters. Marvel has the chance to do something really special with Holland's Spidey, like others have said, and follow him from high school, through college, and all the way into adulthood in a way that hasn't been done in a live action superhero movie before. Not to say there won't be other Spideys that pop up in the meantime, especially with all the Multiverse stuff and hints at Miles, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Holland stick around (no pun intended) for some time.
Cracked these open the other day and the likenesses are really great on all the Spideys. Normally I'd be annoyed at the cash grab with the three pack, but for Peter I like to double up so I can display masked and unmasked at the same time so I was an easy mark for these.Β
There's something just sliiiiightly off with the likeness for Matt but I can't put my finger on it cos I do think it's a decent likeness. It might honestly be the glasses since we never really can see his eyes through his specs. That suit body is great though. Great upgrade from the old Martin Freeman body I stuck a Matt head on ages ago.Β

How soon after the sale will Target get Green Goblin back in stock?Β My guess is Monday at the latest.
