Everyone seems to be copying IGN's text about 'demand outstripping supply', but that's likely nonsense. SDCC exclusives have been fairly easy to get on Pulse in recent years. I think the DD 3-pack sold out quickest but wasn't gone in minutes or anything like that. Plus, I would imagine far fewer people are clamouring for Death's Head than Daredevil.
Was the Daredevil 3-pack a con exclusive? I'm thinking of the DD, white Elektra, and Bullseye pack, which I'm pretty sure was just a normal Pulse exclusive.
I completely agree about Con exclusives being easier to get in the last several years, though, and I'm not too worried about this guy. I'll still be sitting at my computer at exactly the time he goes on sale just in case, but I'm not too worried.
I do think that Hasbro does want some fast sell outs on stuff to change the thinking of people that have played clearance chicken the last few years, even if it costs them some money in the short term. It doesn't benefit them if people know that they can just "wait for a sale."
This type of thing is always cyclical. Make way too much and stuff has to go to deep clearance, then way too little and people can't get what they want and secondary market prices are though the roof, and then way too much again... it's never a happy medium. We've been through this so many time over the years.
I want this figure myself, but I won't personally be surprised if it sells out in seconds once it hits Pulse or if it sits there for years like Rockabilly MODOK. I have no control over that either way. I'll do what I can do get it at retail but will be prepared to pay more via ebay if I fail. I do have to depend on whatever is available online though because I've never been to California in my life and am obviously not making a special trip for a $40 figure.
Why the hell could they not release this guy normally, I’m not a Marvel fan so 95% of the Legends figures don’t interest me but one I’d like to get ends up being an exclusive that I may be able to pick up, still I suppose that’s better than not being able to get one at all.
I wish he had a trigger grip right hand; in the comic I had of him as a kid he used a grenade launcher. But otherwise he looks wonderful. Excited for this.
This is one of the better SDCC ML items they’ve ever made. May be my favorite.
havent read too many Deaths Head comics but I’ve always love his design. And he makes a sharp figure.
Love the packaging as well, and hope they continue with trading card homage packaging in the line. Particularly the series reference here, as that set of cards had some fantastic artwork in it.
i wouldn’t be too worried about acquiring this figure. The “demand will out meet supply” is just fear mongering designed to push sales. Hard to believe Hasbro would suddenly pivot from the last few years and make way less product. The scheduled purchasing time frames are just an attempt to control lines and spread out the crowd. The only thing surprising is they’ve gone back to having product actually available at the show. Seems like a step backward and will just add overall cost to their presence at the show (transporting product and personnel to oversee/sell it).
That's okay, they can and will happily pass that cost along to the customer base.

I think there is some reason to believe you might be wrong about this. Last year's convention exclusive of Deadpool and Bob was still available on Hasbro's site last month - they DON't want that. They want it to sell out and feel "special" so they will err on the side of limiting it and selling it out rather than having too many.
And some of their previous exclusive sets - though I believe Pulse Con and not ComiCon because they didn't do any SDCC exclusives from 2020 through 2023 - such as the Mojo 3-pack and Elvis MODOK had to hit clearance prices to get cleared out.
So - I would say that IS a reason to pivot and make less product than they had been making for their Con exclusives. Show availability with limited stock available on-line afterwards makes it feel special and FOMO is a serious motivator. Probably better to under produce and drive up demand then re-release later, than to over-produce have a warehouse full of unsold product you then have to sell at reduced prices.

There's no question for me. This is the best SDCC ML they've offered and a huge want for me. It's pretty annoying that it's an exclusive, to be honest.
And I hope you're right about its availability. I've been waiting for this version of Death's Head for a long time.
PantherCult makes a pretty compelling argument that I should be worried, though.

I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown of the numbers here, and how many units they'd have to store for x months to sell at y price, vs the cost of ordering and shipping a second run of the same product. I'm sure there are breakeven points in either direction that make one more sensible than the other.
There are minimum amounts needed to make a run of a product. Fiscally speaking it's cheaper per unit to make more in an initial run then to try and make a second run which hits that minimum. If there's super demand for something (not sure how they'd gauge that), they could do a 2nd made-to-order run and only go into production if they hit/exceed that minimum. There haven't been many SDCC which just hung around for a long time. Elvis MODOK and the Power Ranger pig-guy did but those were slight variations of retail-available characters. The Deadpool/Bob 2pk? Tons of Deadpool figures have been in the line. Hard to get people excited about yet another one but at a premium price due to being in a 2pk. Hard to use them as some kind of litmus test. Exclusives of characters not available elsewhere will sell.
I find it extremely hard to believe Hasbro who has been doing so much to get in good with collectors with livestreams and offering product via multiple vendors is going to pivot and decide to alienate fans who can't attend a convention. Just don't see it happening. I'm sure I'll be able to get the SDCC exclusives after the show when they go up on Pulse. 100% faith they'll be attainable.
Yeah... I'm not suggesting they would go back and do a second run of the exclusive figure. I'm saying they might find a way to reinclude the exlcusive character again eventually down the line in some other way - a two pack or a five pack or a retro card release... you know - like they did for that Mojo set, where Longshot and Dazzler got retro card releases and Mojo went for sale as a deluxe figure.
And yes, of course they are going to run at least the minimum order quantity - but I do believe they would rather sell through what they make immediately than have a bunch of product in the warehouse. Clearly the ideal situation is to be able to produce exactly the number they would sell and leave no one disappointed but also have no leftover stock they have to clearance off later. Since that number is often a moving target and varies from character to character and can change over time, they are likely to miss the mark on one side of the line or the other.
What I'm suggesting is that they might be more likely, at present, to want to miss low and underserve demand, than miss high and sit on overstock.
I'm at a loss about how to post on this new forum. All my posts get stuck at awaiting moderation. Is there anyway this can be fixed? Thanks in advance.
These piddly little sdcc exclusives have been weak over the years. I wanna see some badass boxsets again like The Raft, etc.
@panthercult Yes, Panthercult is right. Nerdzoic, who is a retailer, posted about this on YouTube. Hasbro and McFarlane increased production for a while but then their lines started to get clearanced. Apparently they both over corrected to some extent which is why so many preorders have been instant sellouts.

Put him in a Doctor Who box set.
