I just heard back.
Here’s the latest re: the ROM figure:
“”It might be a build a figure. I know that whole wave is also supposed to come with mini comic books with original cover art of each figure too, not sure about the eyes. I’ll check with the marvel production guy when I get to the booth. I asked him yesterday if they brought a figure to the show and he said ROM and 3 others were the only figures they couldn’t get made in time for the show.”
So, not a whole lot of specific info. I’ll keep ya posted if I learn more. 🙂
I don’t know what to think about a build a figure. I’m super selective, and don’t have a big Marvel collection. Also, I don’t know how the plan to have a mini comic and cover art work with a build a figure. Unless Hasbro simply forgoes that for ROM if he is the BAF.
That sounds like a totally new release format with the mini comic books, modeled after the OG Toy Biz run. I'd be surprised if that gimmick was added on top of a BAF wave - sounds like something new and different.
@hulkster1 If ROM is in a wave, wonder if he might be a BAF.
That’s what I was thinking. They emphasized that they scaled him right so the figure is tall. That might put him into BaF territory.
Here’s a link to the 1979 commercial for the Rom toy that the comic basically advertised.
They talked a lot about his eyes; ya think they’re gonna try electric gimmicks to light ‘em up?
Thanks for posting this! Never seen it before.
So excited about Rom! I’d love to get more Spaceknights to go with him! Starshine, Terminator, Ikon, Dominar, Pulsar, Seeker, Firefall… so many cool characters and armors!

Maybe they're going to try something similar to the deluxe Funko Pops that come with cover art displays. The trading card styled box for Death's Head shows they're trying some new packaging options this year, so that could be one of them. Not to mention the cover to ROM #1 is pretty classic and would make for a cool display with the figure in front of it.
I just read that ROM is planned for release at next years SDCC and he will be an exclusive.
Up to your old tricks again, huh? Truly, he has returned.
I'm SO excited for this. He'll probably be a one-off but it would be amazing to get Starshine and some wraiths. Maybe Torpedo at least, since there wouldn't be any trace of legal complications with him?
I'd love a Torpedo!
To paraphrase Conan:
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOMM!!!!!!!
SO happy for this reveal! I'd love it if Dire Wraiths were made as well.
This seems like a good sign that we could eventually get some Micronaut characters in the line as well.
Sitting in that room for the ROM reveal was honestly the highlight of my entire ComiCon this year. I was so stoked.
I am super happy to hear he is part of a wave of figures coming as that could end up being pretty nifty. I would love for it to be cosmic themed along the lines of what Beamish laid out above... but also would be fine if it's just iconic cover appearances - Rom with a Rom #1 cover image and maybe Starfox with Avengers 232, say... and Anaconda with Captain America 319 or Stingray from Sub Mariner 19 you know... like that
Anyway - ROM is coming to Marvel Legends and I am beyond stoked. I am so happy Marvel and Hasbro were able to iron out the kinks to make that a reality. Like others I hope it leads to additional collaborations in the future.
I hope ROM isn't a BAF, as I wouldn't mind more than one of him. And I know a friend of mine will want ROM, but he's not going to buy a wave of figures to get him (he's not really a Marvel fan).
A Dire Wraith would be great to face off against ROM, but a Dire Wraith would likely be a BAF which wouldn't be conducive to army building (still haven't assembled even one Mindless One).
