Ironically, the only thing Marvel that caught my eye was Savage Namor. I've never liked Namor as a character and it always feels odd when they try to shoehorn him into X-books, but the look of that figure made me think "I wonder how much of that can go into making KaZar once it hits clearance?" All in all, it seems like the Marvel guys are phoning in stuff more than they used to and relying on stuff like pinless joints and face printing to try to keep fans engaged. Perhaps they were a bit demoralized over the Ghost Driver Haslab, but they could also be hosting polls (one's that don't end in Red Widow) literally asking what fans want. We see characters in a line completely pinless sharing the same wave with characters who are still heavily pinned on their joints and mostly reuse. If the community votes for Top 10 characters every year, they already have a lot of their market research done for them; they just have to produce something with obvious value or that is cool enough to warrant their higher prices.
As for suggesting we buy all the new characters because we're tired of the same rereleases in order to show Hasbro what we like, that seems too Stepford Wife-ish. If fans are telling you to your face (and in your sales) what they want, hoping that a corporation will deduce something from hints you give them is an effort in futility. Sometimes they do really great stuff, like Spiral and 90s Banshee; I even like Target Black Widow. But I'm increasingly less and less able to point to figures that impress or amount to things we were asking for when we knew a C-D-list was gonna' be a one-shot attempt at that character.
Same reason Wanda and White Vision got re-released at the same time - each of those characters had a D+ show to promote. 🙂
So I didn't want to start a new thread for just one figure, but couldn't really find any other threads where discussion would be appropriate...
I just received Detroit Steel. I get the practical reuse/repaint of the superb Iron Monger body, but this is a pretty loose interpretation of the character. Granted, this character isn't particularly iconic, and a quick google search gives me at least 2-3 significantly different renditions, none of which resemble this mold. Only thing this figure has going for it is size and the paint job. It did get some new parts, like the head, hands, a torso overlay, the right Gattlin gun, the left chainsaw. The one thing, which may seem minor, that always caught my eye in the original design was his tank tread heels. Wish that could have been incorporated here. The figure works well enough, though the hips on my copy seem pretty stuck, and the hip barbell a little rubbery. All this really does is make me want a new Bleeding Edge Iron Man, since that's what he was wearing when Detroit Steel debuted.
Am I remembering right, they used to end these things with the Marvel Legends, right? I feel like GI Joe is now their main event.
I cannot wait to get Detroit Steel! The design is just so over the top and fun. I found the actual fight in the comics rather anticlimactic, so it will be nice to be able to do my own thing in a display.

Seems like GI Joe is doing really well right now. It also makes more sense for Hasbro to promote that because it's their own brand. The Marvel/Star Wars licenses could go away at any point.
Surprised I haven't seen anybody talk about that Deadpool/Hydra Bob two-pack here, I received mine on Thursday and I'm really liking it. Great amount of accessories, especially all the alt hands that DP comes with. I really liked the previous 90s style Deadpool, but always found that the lack of vertical wrist hinges on his hands really limited posing. This fixes that and adds plenty more articulation to boot.
Right now this DP stands as my definitive version of the character so far, he's a blast. Bob is great too, he's one of my favorite niche Marvel characters so I'm happy to have a dedicated figure of him. He always felt like a character straight out of Venture Bros to me.
I also got the DP/Bob set. I’m pretty satisfied with it, though I’m looking for alternatives to the swords they packed with him. They’re shorter and straight, as opposed to the longer curved katana he’s usually sporting. Thusly, his sheathes are made for them. All the extra katana I have are the long curved ones. I don’t want to display the ones with blue Leonardo hilts. Just looks out of place, because I agree that this is the definitive Deadpool. I’m sure I could swap his web gear, but I’d like to keep as much of the exclusive figure intact. Just looking for swords that fit the sheathes.
Actually, I’m also a little annoyed he doesn’t have any holsters for his two pistols. That’s a legit shocker to me.
Yeah the DP/Bob set is great. The amount of accessories is really satisfying - even though most of them are gimmicky and I won't use the TMNT weapons it's a fun set, on theme, and nice to get so much in a standard 2-pack price.
I agree with you @normdapito about the swords and guns. GI Joe Classified has spoiled me and now I'm disappointed there isn't a place to store all of his weapons (god help the next Punisher figure they make - they better bring some GIJC folks in to consult!). And I definitely want to swap his swords out for something less cartoony. Luckily there are plenty of previous DP figures to swipe from.
Bob is fun too (love the Venture Bros connection, he really does feel like that). I was happy with the extra head from the scooter set but it's nice for him to get a full figure, and the slightly different color of his Hydra uniform helps him stand out in a good way. And for some reason he just reminds me again of how much I want Eric O'Grady as the Irredeemable Ant-Man, so can we please get on that too Hasbro??
I'm of two ways when it comes to weapons storage. On one hand, it's always a nice feature to have, but on the other it's not often that he was actually drawn with holsters back in the 90s. Unless he stored his guns in his many pouches, that is. Definitely think it would have been nice to have weapons storage as an option, though.
The only parts I've swapped out for now on mine are the wrist cuffs. Put on the black ones from one of the previous 90s DPs on there. The red ones are more accurate to the era, but the black ones just make the design feel more 'complete.' Think it's a bit strange he'd have the black neck and ankle cuffs, but the ones on his wrists are red.
Detroit Steel—Finally got this awesome Detroit Steel figure from Hasbro Pulse. I loved this over the top armor ever since I first saw it in the comics. The idea of a crazy heavy duty war machine marketed to governments around the world is like the original story of Firepower but wrapped up in the hyper nationalistic colors of Iron Patriot. It was a fun concept that is super toyetic. A giant gattling gun and a chainsaw that can even rip into Iron Man’s armor! Really fun to finally get a figure after all these years.

Ooh... I haven't opened mine yet - but I like that it scales well with the classic Titanium Man from Marvel Select.
So, tomorrow is the last day of NYTF, will there be any Marvel Legends shown? I haven't seen anything new announced, yet. At least not to my knowledge.
Nothing at NYTF. Maybe something at NYCC in two weeks.
