I started to pull the trigger on a couple of those $10 Xavier's and then thought... why?  Do I need them?  and I stopped.

This is the sanity we can all aspire to.

With Target’s 25 off 100, I was able to get the Classified Sniper and Halo Jumper down to 27 each, and SS86 Springer down to  32, who was already on sale for 42 down from 55.

I got interested for a second, then realized you meant in store. Not much available online still. I'm tempted by Road Pig (which is already marked down to $31) but there's not much else to pick up.

Yeah, this was an in-store purchase. Sorry I didn't specify. There isn't a lot to choose from in store, but I feel like even less is available on their website. I've been checking for ML Secret Wars to go in stock, and nada since the links went up.

No worries, I buy 95% online so I just default to that. I have one local Target I check infrequently - can't remember buying anything from there in the last year or so.

Same here, only I'm probably 99%. My fingers ran to target.com when I saw his post, heh.

I got curious, so I referenced my tracking spreadsheet that is not at all the work of an obsessive lunatic: in 2024 I have made 4 in-person figure purchases out of 158 transactions:

  • X-Cutioner at Target
  • Moon Knight (Strange Tales), Lady Bullseye, and Clea at the local Books-A-Million (the membership brings their overpriced figures down to more or less regular retail)

97.5% online purchases. Take that, brick and mortar!

I basically only buy at brick and mortar if I find them before my pre-orders hit, or at 70% off or better clearance.

I rarely ever see any of the good stuff at retail and I'm someone who hits my local Target, Walmart and Gamestop weekly and Best Buy, Ross, TJ Maxx, Five Below and my local comic book stores each every couple of weeks soley to look for discounted action figures.

I preorder most of what I buy, but that hasn't stopped me from checking bricks & mortar stores weekly. Sometimes a good deal can be had. Especially at this time of year. It's rare for retail to beat e-tail in getting products first, but it happens, and when it does, I take advantage. I like seeing stuff in person before buying if I have a choice. I don't keep meticulous records on a spreadsheet, but I'd be curious to figure out what my percentage of buying online vs in person is.

It's the tedious record-keeping I didn't know I needed in my life! Started as an effort to keep myself accountable (how much am I REALLY spending every year?) and to become more proficient in Excel. Now it's something I enjoy maintaining more than I probably should.

That's pretty much the same for me. It's also a good way for me to keep track of pre-orders etc. I color code everything, including stuff on my wishlist tab so I can keep track of what's been announced/pipelined/leaked. It's an essential part of my collecting and I think the structure is comforting, as well as keeping me from getting too out of hand.
