@enigmaticclarity Never had any of those, but I cannot image them being as heavy as the Mondo figures. Could be wrong though...
The photo I promised. Rogue is very limited until I get my replacement body...
Finally getting my hands on Rogue's alternate heads (they shipped two neutrals in my regular edition) makes this figure a ton better - I have come to really NOT like the neutral face. I don't think it looks like her. The wink face actually captures her, as does the angry face (mostly). The Cyclops eyes are as well done as they could be and the Evo portrait looks great for a pointless inclusion. I bet that is when they asked Marvel if they could start including '97 pieces instead.
Has anyone seen any good repaints of these?
I don't think the joint tolerance has anything to do with the ability of these figures to be posed dynamically or not. Gambit can wield his big, heavy, effect part just fine because his shoulder, elbow, and wrists are appropriately tight. He can't be posed in a deep crouch or a spinning kick because the range of the joints isn't going to allow it. And I think that's a design choice by Mondo since these things are covered in paint. Load them up with articulation and you're talking about lots of paint rub. And then there's the choice of doing plastic coats for Jubilee and Gambit and a big plastic cape for Magneto which is going to limit things. Mondo is just not in the business of making sixth scale action figures capable of dynamic posing. Where I do see this being more of an issue is with Spider-Man. That's a character that probably needs to be able to pose better than anything we've seen so far from Mondo so I'm curious how they approach him.

I'm not really sure because all I have is Mondo Magneto with that huge cape, and certainly with that he's heavier than Thor who has a cloth cape. Below are some comparison pics on a postal scale--Mondo Magneto is 1 pound 11 ounces, Marvel Legends Thor is 1 pound 5 ounces, and Legends Wolverine is 1 pound even. They all feel about the same weight and heft in hand, but it's hard to tell due to the cape.
Wish I had the Mondo Wolverine to do a better comparison. This Legends Wolverine below is one of the best ten action figures I own, period. He's amazing, his joints are extremely tight, and he will hold ANY pose indefinitely. I have two of him, and they both have the same ultra-tight joints. If the Mondo joints were as tight as these Legends ones are I'd own the entire line.
Thor really looks like he's straining to win this comparison.

Yep, so it seems. I think I'd rather have statues then which is what I collected for 15+ years before the decent aesthetics and articulation of lines like Legends and Mafex inspired me to switch to action figures. Statues are stuck in one pose, but at least it can be a fun one.
But it's fine for some characters. I don't really regret owning Magneto since he's usually in an upright pose, although I do wish I could find a flight stand to hold him a foot or two in the air. And I pre-ordered deluxe Cyclops because just standing there is pretty much his thing, although I'd sure love to be able to achieve a kneel like the one below but doubt it'll be possible.
One thing I was just reminded of while looking at those 12-inch Legends figures from a few years ago is that most of them had the "super-articulated" torso with the lower ab crunch and upper diaphragm joint years before Hasbro ever put it into their 6-inch figures starting with retro Spidey. We finally just got that with Astonishing Wolverine, but the 12-inch tiger stripe Wolverine had it six years earlier.
Man I wish that line hadn't failed. The earliest ones from 2015 and 2016 were a bit simplistic in articulation with not enough range of motion in most joints, but by the time they did Wolverine in 2018 they had absolutely mastered the scale and that figure is INSANELY good, just one of the best action figures ever made. The extreme quality of that guy was the entire reason I skipped Mondo Wolverine--Mondo Logan looks so, so good, but even in the promos you could tell there's no way it would come anywhere close to that 2018 Legends version when factoring in both aesthetics AND articulation.
Another interesting thing about that 12-inch Legends Wolverine is you can tell they used most of the same digital sculpt for both the 6-inch figure and 12-inch figure. There are plenty of differences like the claws, the super-articulated torso, and the toe joints, but still the 12-inch is almost exactly the same as the 6-inch Love Triangle Wolverine in most ways except that the 12-inch figure has far more texturing and detailing. Below is an ultra high-res comparison pic of the sixth scale version and the twelfth scale Love Triangle version where you can see how similar they are, except that the sixth scale version has textured gloves/boots/shoulder pads/belt, bullet holes in the right shoulder pad and scratches on the left, and the ripped-up cowl head years before they released that same head in 6-inch form on Love Triangle Logan.
I have to wonder if the sixth scale Marvel Legends line could succeed online just like Mondo's line is succeeding. Hasbro tried to market it at retail, but the $50 price point proved too rich for retail's blood in the mid-2010s. Given how the higher price points and lower production runs of Mondo or Hot Toys sell out I could absolutely see a premium line selling 3,000 to maybe at most 20,000 units instead of the 40,000 or more units they usually make for retail figures.
Mondo posted a chat about its convention plans on YouTube:
In it they mentioned even more exclusives for this line planned for San Diego: Rogue (Uncanny edition) and Omega Red (Uncanny) and a black soft vinyl Juggernaut
Both sound like they're in the same style as last year's comic Magneto which was the same figure, just with a more comic accurate deco. For Rogue, that would mostly mean a brown jacket. For Omega Red, I actually don't know. They seemed to tease that Omega Red might be more different than expected, which would make some sense. The cartoon version was pretty faithful to the comic, just less detailed. I'm thinking the metal sideburns he has and he may have had some metal bits on his arms? I don't know. I guess we'll see next week. I'm good with the Rogue and Red I have, but they might be cool for people who like these figures, but don't care about the show.
At the end of the video, they also show off an accessory for Spider-Man (his hand holding a Green Goblin mask) and confirm he'll be at the show.
Classic Cyclops now up for pre-order with a run of 650
Glad that I was able to get an order for classic Cyclops and it's still available an hour later.
Not sure how I feel about them doing Uncanny editions, though. The Magneto one felt like more of a weird repaint vs. something particularly comic accurate.
Also, it seems like Mondo is really expanding the number of these 1/6 scale releases by an order an magnitude. They have all these lines like X-Men, Batman, Masters of the Universe, and now Spider-Man that will be getting regular essentially bimonthly releases, and now they're expanding to other one-off releases like Daria and then repaints of the main lines (X-Men Uncanny editions, Batman Noir editions). Definitely a little worried they're over-saturating what is probably a tiny market.
Definitely want more details on the new tiger stripe Wolverine they showed!
Same. The heads are likely an improvement over the first run, but I'm curious if it's all new tooling. Probably has the better claws from the Logan release of last year. I'd rather a new character before a Wolverine redo, but I'm not disappointed about potentially rebuying the character. I saved the packaging from the original release so I'd just return him to his bed where he can be said for all eternity over Jean.
Looks like Spider-Man and Venom will be the next Marvel solicitations. Spidey is slated for August and Venom "Fall." That may mean it's a little while before we see Wolverine go up, or it has nothing to do with anything. Since he isn't in the booth I'm guessing he's not imminent sort of like how last year we saw renders for Cyke and Rogue and they didn't go up for sale until this year. I'm definitely okay with the slower roll out, especially since the line seems healthy so there's presently no concern that it will all of a sudden stop.
And on the subject of Spider-Man and Venom, both turned out looking very nice. I love the difference in height between the two. I'm curious if Spider-Man will scale well with the X-Men or be a touch on the short side. It's more important though that he scales with his villains than he does the X-Men, I'm just assuming Venom isn't any taller than the likes of Sabretooth and Omega Red. I still don't see myself going in on the Spider-Man line, but I may have to grab Venom because I was a big Venom fan as a kid.
