I guess I'm clueless, because I wasn't really getting a vibe that there would be expendable members of this team. I guess that makes sense, setting it apart from the Avengers (though there was Coulson) but I'd think they'd want to distance themselves in whatever ways they can from Suicide Squad. I mean, was that where the original Thunderbolts went in the comics? I haven't read them, but my understanding was that they were members of the Masters of Evil who masqueraded as a new set of heroes (with new identities) in the absence of the Avengers. These guys are looking for redemption, not necessarily being forced to work for their lives/freedom.

The comics have had a few different versions of the Thunderbolts, and what you described was the original and probably best known one. Bucky also had a team I think (I didn't read those though) and there was also the red team with Agent Venom, Elektra, Red Hulk, Punisher, and Deadpool. I also wonder if this will borrow some from the Dark Avengers series, at least with respect to Sentry, but of course it's a lineup that I don't think has ever existed in the comics so they're also doing their own things with it, especially since some of these characters and their plot progressions seem to drive a lot of it. Where characters like Bucky and Yelena are in the MCU at present is woven in. I dunno, it looks like it's got a lot of the stuff I enjoy about Marvel. Looking forward to more between Yelena and Red Guardian. That one line was pretty damned touching.
As far as expendable members:
One thing that makes me question it though is she's shown in the tower, which seems like it's after the warehouse scenes. yeah she could have been inserted to fake us out, which they've done before.
@ru1977 Personally, I wouldn't mind at all if
Anyway, like most I was never happy with Taskmaster as a character being sacrificed for a so-so plot twist to make people go "ooooh it's the person Loki mentioned in passing in that Avengers scene people loved!" Same with the MCU Mandarin twist in IM3 - fortunately they were able to correct that for the most part in Shangchi. I'd hope for the same with Taskmaster.
Looks like the Brave New World Legends are on sale on Walmart's site for $20 each (Sam and Hulk are a little less than $18). Not sure how long the sale goes for, so snatch them up quickly if you want them!
HULK: https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-LEGENDS-DELUXE-3/6411816723
SAM: https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-LEGENDS-DELUXE-1/5957434876
FALCON: https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-LEGENDS-DELUXE-2/6415400577
So I should wait on the Thunderbolts wave, got it.
Hoping that we are still getting a Leader figure
Guess we'll see if it makes that 'okay, fine, more figures in two years' kinda box office.
Seeing the movie inspired me to finally open Falcon and Red Hulk
I did take advantage of WalMart's sale the other day and got all 3 figures, though I might wait until I see the movie to fully commit. I'll probably keep Falcon just because he's new, even if, in true MCU fashion, he'll more than likely get a new suit in his next appearance. Red Hulk I'm iffy on; I've never had Hulk high on my list of favorites, and something tells me we may not see Red Hulk again, at least for a long while, so I don't know if I really need him on my shelf. Same with Sam- I preferred his white suit from FatWS since it differentiated him more from Steve, but this one does look nice, especially the wings.
Ah, the purchases I talk myself into, then try to talk myself out of. 🤣 Feels silly to really stress over it that much, considering I got all 3 for a little over the price of 1. Even if I were to return them and wait for a sale, they probably wouldn't dip much lower than they already did, so I might as well just keep them.
With the Thunderbolts trailer out now and Dan Yun hinting that Marvel Legends drops aren't over for February... do we think there's any chance they'll sneak peak some movie Thunderbolts figures or is it too soon for that. I know historically with movie figures they've liked to partner with media outlets to debut some of those... but it had me curious.
@panthercult I think it's far more likely that they'll reveal the rumored Leader figure from Brave New World now that the movie is out.
Ah.. I guess that makes sense. Less exciting, but definitely reasonable.
If that rumored Leader figure is coming, I would imagine we will see it this week now that movie is out.
Thunderbolts wave I think is more likely to be seen in March and probably in a press release (likely same for Leader....MCU reveals for new media tend to be press releases from somewhere. Not streams. We only get figures from old movies in streams)
My guess with Thunderbolts is that they're waiting until closer to the movie so they can keep Sentry/The Void's look secret. Now, that doesn't mean they can't unveil the rest of the wave, and it's not like they haven't debuted a character's look with a figure/Funko Pop before, but still. Not that I want them to give everything away before the release, but I do think this is one that could benefit from as much hype/discussion as possible. Hopefully, with this movie being another victim of "Release Date Roulette", the figures have been ready to go for a bit, and can roll out around release date.
