If I didn't think there would not be more Loki figures, why would I have posted a list of potential new Loki figures? The posts are not contradictory.
I am surprised we don't have anything dropping with the new season of Loki.
I really wish they'd alter how they do Disney+ waves.
Like for for the new season of Loki I would have loved to see a catch up wave that pertains to the character.
- Loki (Avengers - All New)
- Frigga (The Dark World)
- Malekith (The Dark World)
- Volstagg (Thor)
- Fandral (The Dark World)
- Hogun (Ragnarok)
- Ravonna Renslayer (Loki S1)
BAF: Destroyer
Yeah, it would be great to have make-up figures fit with what the current release is. Flashback Hank and Janet (Hank could have been just a Marvel Studios Ant-Man repaint with a new unmasked head) would have made as much sense for the Quantumania wave as Heimdall and Vision for the Endgame one.
I guess I'm just going to have to become a YouTuber so I can get a chance to interview the Hasbro team and ask them actual questions like why mixed/ catch up waves like this aren't being made for MCU. Instead of the same old whining about why so and so didn't get pinless legs or why so and so didn't get double jointed elbows lol.
Finally snagged Quantumania Wasp. Saw her on clearance the other day but didn't grab her. Came back the next day and she was gone, only to come back again and there was one left on the pegs.
She's a nice figure! Don't think I'd have paid more for her than I did ($12), but I like it. Her likeness is superb, and I like the feel of the updated suit, even if the colors feel a little muted to me. Happy to have her; now we just need Frank and Janet!
Now that I'm 2 BAF pieces deep, gotta make the decision to keep building Cassie, or let her go. I like the bigger MCU BAFs- Giant Man was great (even if my cat knocked him off the shelf and broke both his legs off), but I'm not yet that attached to Cassie to need multiple figures of her, and I think I'd prefer a regular scale version. Then again, who knows how long it'll take them to come out with that, since Quantumania wasn't received too well, and whatever Young Avengers thing she might be in is years off at this point.
Really have no idea where to post this, but the Infinity Saga Spider-man shipped from EE today; still waiting on Black Widow and Iron Man to ship.
I feel like a perfect next wave could have dropped around Christmas. They could have debuted the 4 Loki figures now to coincide with season 2, the WBN figures could be revealed alongside the color release, and Echo would be a promoting her season only a month before it airs. None of these would be spoilers and the team would (should) already have these on their radar. Season 2 Loki (just needs a new peacoat overlay on S1 figure) and Echo would be the only new figures and I'm sure the team has had reference photos of them for a while.
1) Hunter B15 (S1/2)
2) Ravonna Reinslayer (S1)
3) Elsa Bloodstone (color)
4) Werewolf (color)
5) Echo
6) Darcy Lewis
7) Loki (S2)
BAF: Ted (color)
Amazon Exclusive: O.B. or Victor Timely
That is utterly true. Fantastic wave concept.
I get that Marvel wants to keep secrets and all that but it's just one aspect of why I'm really kinda falling off the Legends train here. I had really cut down in the last couple years and changed how I'm collecting, then last week I reevaluated once more and I'm unloading maybe another quarter of my collection. Part of it is definitely other things I'd rather spend my fun money on these days, but I admit that Hollywood Reporter article really got me to finally admit to myself how much I've not been enjoying Marvel lately. I've enjoyed a few since Endgame quite a bit, but there are so many that have been forgettable or not worth a second watch. And lately they've been putting out stuff I can't even finish. I genuinely hope they right that ship, but for over a decade it was a great ride and I can be happy with that. If they'd jumped on mutants immediately after acquiring them, I probably would have happily grabbed almost every character they made a figure of. As it stands now, I've got my ultimate list that's the team during Secret Wars, and that's as far as I'll go. I want the FF and... I think that's about it anymore. I'd like Alpha Flight but I don't know if they'll ever really get to them.
So, I see your list and it's absolutely a great wave, and I would love if they did it, even if Echo is the only figure I would buy from it. And that's definitely based on my love for the character from the comics and the actress as well, which has been happening a lot lately. The performers have a ton of charisma but the material doesn't deserve them. Maybe it's partly that I'm burnt out, but I definitely feel a lot of studios, not just Marvel, are really in a period of quantity of quality and not putting the necessary energy and time into what makes great stories or enjoyable projects. Either way, I feel like I'm working toward shedding my Marvel figures altogether and just enjoying the movies I enjoy without needing to put things from them on the shelf.
@joshuakat As Ru said, fantastic wave! I might only switch out Werewolf as the Amazon exclusive, and fill the spot with either OB, Timely, or Jack (or perhaps have Jack in a 2 pack with the Werewolf). In trying to think like Hasbro, something tells me that the werewolf itself would require too many new pieces, so they'd either make it the BAF (which I'd rather be Ted, as stated), or an exclusive with a lower run.
Still, a fantastic wave, and one that I could definitely see working. Lots of reuse in the characters mentioned, and it would help us fill out some much needed spots as well. It's odd that there wasn't any Legends love for WBN, and still isn't a year later. Though perhaps a slightly ignorant take on it, I'd think they'd be able to re-use at least a couple parts from the Man-Thing BAF (though I would, admittedly, love a fully new Ted). I would think Jack could easily re-use some parts from their suited body they love so much. I'm sure even Elsa would only need a few new parts here and there. I know the special was a short, holiday one-off, but it was well-received, and I'm sure we'll see at least Ted again down the line once more monsters are introduced (probably whenever Blade finally comes around). It lends itself quite well to a retailer or con exclusive if they're worried about it selling well.
Don't get me wrong, I have far more faith in the Hasbro Marvel team than I do the Star Wars team, but there's still some odd decisions made. I know most of it is down to Marvel Studios withholding information, which as many others have stated, has mostly proven to be counterproductive. Maybe now that Marvel seems to be undergoing a change with their media (or at least their shows), which seems to include more planning, maybe that can include more contact between them and Hasbro.
Hopefully yeah.
My wife and I watched Jaws yesterday, a movie I try to watch almost annually, and it got me to put on the Making Of retrospective thingie on the bluray. There was a whole bit about how they tried to keep the shark hidden because (SPOILER) they didn't use a real shark for most of the scenes, yet somehow someone got onto the lot and took pictures of the mechanical shark and leaked it. It was kinda funny seeing the 70's version of that sort of thing. But, despite the producers' biggest secret leaking to the public, the movie became the biggest hit ever for a couple years. Meanwhile I remember having a figure of Chief Chirpa and the Emperor's Royal Guard before even seeing Return of the Jedi, and it only got me more excited to learn who those two character were! (SPOILER, both did nothing.) Same with the Phantom Menace figures they put out a couple months before the movie.
But I realize it was just a different time. But if that's the case, as I've said plenty of times, I feel the secrecy needs to be baked in to Hasbro's plans. Do the obvious figures before/around the movie's release, and actually plan to do the others a year or two later. If you're a Hot Toys collector, you have plenty of time after you've seen the movie to decide which ones you want, and it's still, what? a year? before they ship. I'm perfectly fine with that sorta timeline, if that's the way they establish things. If they want to wait a year or two to put out spoiler figures (ala the villains and Peters a lot of us actually knew about before the movie came out), great. But some consistency is key and I don't think that can happen, especially when surprise second Black Panther waves due to shocking blockbusting in the theater are likely something in the past.
@ru1977 I agree- I've never been one to really care about spoilers. Like you said, it's about how it all plays out, or seeing who this cool looking person is- for me, at least. With some exceptions, sometimes I want to know what happens before I see a movie just to keep my expectations in check. The "how" is sometimes more interesting than the "what".
I think the same about figures sometimes. Like, obviously I get that Marvel wanted to keep the NWH cameos in check, but they were pretty much the worst kept secret from the get-go. At that point, I say embrace it. Build upon the hype rather than the secrecy. You can then profit from said hype much sooner. Instead of coming out with figures 2+ years after the thing, have them come out around the time of the film (or at least the home media release). I can see how longevity of a brand can be valuable too, but Spidey, and by extension most Marvel properties, are going to have that built-in anyway.
I know they did the best they could with NWH. The inverted suit was a fun addition, and they gave us a new, albeit quickly outdated Strange. I certainly credit the Hasbro Marvel team with doing the best they can with what they have, and working hard to make up for lost time when they're able to.
Granted, this is all my very biased, opinion. I get the business behind it and all that. What's seen as counterproductive by some is just good business to others. You know us collectors and fans- I don't know if we'll ever be fully pleased.
Now that I think about it, is there as big a custom market for MCU Marvel Legends as there are for Star Wars Black Series? I feel like I see far more custom made, 3D printed pieces or molds for Black Series than I do for the MCU. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

I've thought about this a lot myself. I also collect Transformers and it blows my mind how many 3rd party/fan kits are out there for them. Like, if you have a transformer figure, there's probably an upgrade kit for it, it's crazy. Yet despite Marvel being the bigger property of the two, there's hardly any sort of 3rd party products. I wish I was more artistically inclined because there are a lot of little fixes/upgrades I wish I could do on my MCU collection which will never happen.
Like what? What little fixes are bothering your brain?
I've taken to just doing mine. Fixing MoM Wanda right out of the box, and Yelena and both bother me so much less now! Someone the other day mentioned wanting a regular-sized Quantumania Cassie. I don't have faith that Hasbro will circle back to her anytime soon and I realized she and the new MCU Wasp's costumes are VERY similar so I bought another clearance Wasp (yay that she was still there and even cheaper!) and I'm going to repaint. My choice now is do I put Ant-Man's helmet on her (the Quantumania Ant-Man's helmet is WAYYY too small for his body - but will work for Cassie) or buy a third party headsculpt. I didn't like Kathryn Newton's performance so I'm opting for the helmet. But then - I didn't like her character, so why am I even doing it at all?
But that same seller has a High Evolutionary headsculpt that is fantastic. But if I buy that, even for $6 plus shipping, it's a hunk of junk the second Hasbro announces theirs. I have my custom MoM Wanda and now I don't know what to do with her.
I think that might be the difference between SW customs and Marvel customs - SW accessories don't just go irrelevant when a real one gets announced, but most Marvel stuff does. SW is generic enough that a lot of it can still be repurposed, Jedi robes and lightsabers and droids, but a dedicated MCU sculpt is a dedicated sculpt.
I try not to customize classic characters anymore because Hasbro will eventually get around to everyone who existed pre-2000.

Yeah, I have that issue more often lately...
it's a hunk of junk the second Hasbro announces theirs.
Definitely, that's why I don't even bother. Star Wars too actually, unless it's something simple like a Fett repaint. I'm planning to do some BS customs for the preproduction suits right now.

That's a great point.
